Proverbs 29
1 He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck shall suddenly be broken, and that without remedy.
O homem que age com teimosia, mesmo depois de muitas repreensões, será tão destruído que não terá mais cura.
2 When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice: but when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh.
Quando os justos se engrandecem, o povo se alegra; mas quando o perverso domina, o povo geme.
3 Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth [his] substance.
O homem que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai; mas o companheiro de prostitutas gasta os bens.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.
O rei por meio da justiça firma a terra; mas o amigo de subornos a transtorna.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.
O homem que lisonjeia a seu próximo arma uma rede para seus pés.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
Na transgressão do homem mau há uma armadilha; mas o justo se alegra e se enche de alegria.
7 The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor: the wicked hath not understanding to know [it].
O justo considera a causa judicial dos pobres; [mas] o perverso não entende [este] conhecimento.
8 Scornful men set a city in a flame: but wise men turn away wrath.
Homens zombadores trazem confusão a cidade; mas os sábios desviam a ira.
9 If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man, whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.
O homem sábio que disputa no julgamento contra um tolo, mesmo se perturbado ou rindo, não terá descanso.
10 The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect: and as for the upright, they seek his life.
Homens sanguinários odeiam o honesto; mas os corretos procuram o seu bem.
11 A fool uttereth all his anger: but a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it.
O louco mostra todo o seu ímpeto; mas o sábio o mantém sob controle.
12 If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.
O governante que dá atenção a palavras mentirosas, todos os seus servos serão perversos.
13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together: the LORD lighteneth the eyes of them both.
O pobre e o enganador se encontram: o SENHOR ilumina aos olhos de ambos.
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
O rei que julga aos pobres por meio da verdade, seu trono se firmará para sempre.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.
A vara e a repreensão dão sabedoria; mas o rapaz deixado solto envergonha a sua mãe.
16 When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall look upon their fall.
Quando os perversos se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões; mas os justos verão sua queda.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul.
Castiga a teu filho, e ele te fará descansar, e dará prazeres à tua alma.
18 Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Não havendo visão profética, o povo fica confuso; porém o que guarda a lei, ele é bem-aventurado.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not give heed.
O servo não será corrigido por meio de palavras; porque [ainda que] entenda, mesmo assim ele não responderá [corretamente].
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Viste um homem precipitado em suas palavras? Mais esperança há para um tolo do que para ele.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become a son at the last.
Aquele que mima a seu servo desde a infância, por fim ele quererá ser [seu] filho.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.
O homem que se irrita facilmente levanta brigas; e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.
23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honour.
A arrogância do homem o abaterá; mas o humilde de espírito obterá honra.
24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.
Aquele que reparte com o ladrão odeia sua [própria] alma; ele ouve maldições e não [o] denuncia.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
O temor do homem arma ciladas; mas o que confia no senhor ficará em segurança.
26 Many seek the ruler’s favour: but a man’s judgment [cometh] from the LORD.
Muitos buscam a face do governante; mas o julgamento de cada um [vem] do SENHOR.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous: and he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
O justos odeiam ao homem perverso; e o injusto odeia aos que andam no caminho correto.
