< Proverbs 26 >
1 As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honour is not seemly for a fool.
Nipui tue ih dantui baktih, cang aah tue ah angzo khotui baktiah, kamthu to pakoeh han hoih ai.
2 As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, so the curse that is causeless lighteth not.
Takung om ai ah kasae thuihaih loe ahmuen kruekah kamhet parit caa hoi anghak ai ah azawk pungpae baktiah ni oh.
3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the back of fools.
Quiboeng hoiah hrang to boh moe, sum hoiah laa hrang ih tahmawh moem pae baktih toengah, kamthu to cung hoiah bop ah.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
Kamthu to amthuhaih baktiah pathok hmah; na pathok nahaeloe nang doeh kamthu baktiah ni na om tih.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.
Kamthu ih lok to na pathim nahaeloe, a mik hnukah palungha kami ah poek moeng tih.
6 He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool cutteth off [his own] feet, [and] drinketh in damage.
Kamthu khaeah pat ih lok loe a khok to takroek pat moe, amrohaih tui naek baktiah ni oh.
7 The legs of the lame hang loose: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.
Kamthu pakha pong ih palunghahaih lok loe, adue ai khokkhaem kami ih khok baktiah oh.
8 As a bag of gems in a heap of stones, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.
Kamthu pakoeh kami loe, ngazai pongah lawkthluem moep sut baktiah ni oh.
9 [As] a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the month of fools.
Kamthu pakha pong ih palunghahaih lok loe soekhring mah thun ih mu paqui ban baktiah ni oh.
10 [As] an archer that woundeth all, so is he that hireth the fool and he that hireth them that pass by.
Kalen Sithaw mah hmuen boih to sak; kamthu hoi zaehaih sah kami hanah doeh toksakhaih atho to paek boih.
11 As a dog that returneth to his vomit, [so is] a fool that repeateth his folly.
Ui mah angmah ih tamlok to caak let baktiah, kamthu loe angmah amthuhaih thungah amlaem let.
12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
Angmah hoi angmah palungha kami ah poek kami to na hnuk maw? To kami pongah loe kamthu to oepthoh kue.
13 The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.
Thasae kami mah loe loklam ah kaipui oh; loklam ah hmawsaeng kaipui oh, tiah thuih.
14 [As] the door turneth upon its hinges, so doth the sluggard upon his bed.
Thok loe takhing ih sum nuiah angbang baktih toengah, thasae kami doeh angmah ih iihkhun nuiah angbet caeng.
15 The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.
Thasae kami loe laom thungah ban to tapawh boeh, toe pakha ah buh abah hanah paqak.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason.
Thasae kami loe khopoek thaih kami sarihto pongah, angmah hoi angmah to palungha kue ah poek.
17 He that passeth by, [and] vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, is [like] one that taketh a dog by the ears.
Lamcaeh naah angmah hoi asaenghaih om ai angzoehhaih pongah kathum kami loe, ui naa patawn caeng kami hoiah anghmong.
18 As a madman who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death;
Tamhnuilok ni ka thuih, tiah thuih moe, a imtaeng kami aling kami loe kangqong hmai vah ih baktih, duekhaih phasak kalii kaat kamthu hoiah anghmong.
19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?
20 For lack of wood the fire goeth out: and where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.
Thing om ai pongah hmai to duek; pronghaih lok kaom ai ahmuen ah loe, angzoehhaih to om ai.
21 [As] coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to inflame strife.
Hmaisaae to amngaeh moe, thing angqong baktih toengah, angzoeh koeh kami mah lok pungsak thaih.
22 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
Pronghaih lok loe kahoih caaknaek baktiah, kami ih takpum thungah akun.
23 Fervent lips and a wicked heart are [like] an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.
Lok loe hoih, toe poeksae palungthin loe anui ah rong nok dui ih long laom baktiah oh.
24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him:
Minawk hnuma kami loe pahni hoiah kahoih hmuen to thuih, toe a palung thungah loe alinghaih hoiah koi.
25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart:
Anih mah thuih ih lok loe hoih, toe tang hmah; anih ih palung thungah panuet thok hmuen sarihto oh.
26 Though [his] hatred cover itself with guile, his wickedness shall be openly shewed before the congregation.
Anih mah hnukmahaih to alinghaih hoiah kraeng khoep, toe anih sethaih to minawk hmaa ah angphong let tih.
27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.
Qumqai kami loe angmah qumqaih ih tangqom thungah krah tih; thlung palet kami doeh a palet ih thlung to angmah nuiah amlet let tih.
28 A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.
Amsawnlok thui palai loe angmah pacaekthlaek ih kami to hnukma; lokcaep thaih pakha mah kami to amrosak.
