Proverbs 25
1 These also are proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
Tambem estes são proverbios de Salomão, os quaes transcreveram os homens d'Ezequias, rei de Judah.
2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
A gloria de Deus é encobrir o negocio; mas a gloria dos reis esquadrinhar o negocio.
3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.
Para a altura dos céus, e para a profundeza da terra, e para o coração dos reis, não ha investigação.
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there cometh forth a vessel for the finer:
Tira da prata as escorias, e sairá vaso para o fundidor.
5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
Tira o impio da presença do rei, e o seu throno se affirmará na justiça.
6 Put not thyself forward in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:
Não te glories na presença do rei, nem te ponhas no logar dos grandes;
7 For better is it that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince, whom thine eyes have seen.
Porque melhor é que te digam: Sobe aqui; do que seres humilhado diante do principe que já viram os teus olhos.
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.
Não saias depressa a litigar, para que depois ao fim não saibas que fazer, podendo-te confundir o teu proximo.
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour [himself], and disclose not the secret of another:
Pleiteia o teu pleito com o teu proximo, e não descubras o segredo d'ontro:
10 Lest he that heareth it revile thee, and thine infamy turn not away.
Para que não te deshonre o que o ouvir, e a tua infamia se não aparte de ti.
11 A word fitly spoken is [like] apples of gold in baskets of silver.
Como maçãs d'oiro em salvas de prata, assim é a palavra dita a seu tempo.
12 [As] an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
Como pendentes d'oiro e gargantilhas d'oiro fino, assim é o sabio reprehensor para o ouvido ouvinte.
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him; for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
Como frieza de neve no tempo da sega, assim é o mensageiro fiel para com os que o enviam; porque recreia a alma de seu senhor.
14 [As] clouds and wind without rain, [so is] he that boasteth himself of his gifts falsely.
Como nuvens e ventos que não trazem chuva, assim é o homem que se gaba falsamente de dadivas.
15 By long forbearing is a ruler persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
Pela longanimidade se persuade o principe, e a lingua branda quebranta os ossos.
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee; lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
Achaste mel? come o que te basta; para que porventura não te fartes d'elle, e o venhas a vomitar.
17 Let thy foot be seldom in thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and hate thee.
Retira o teu pé da casa do teu proximo; para que se não enfade de ti, e te aborreça.
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
Martello, e espada, e frecha aguda é o homem que diz falso testemunho contra o seu proximo.
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is [like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
Como dente quebrado, e pé desengonçado, é a confiança no desleal, no tempo da angustia.
20 [As] one that taketh off a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.
O que canta canções ao coração afflicto é como aquelle que despe o vestido n'um dia de frio, e como vinagre sobre salitre.
21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:
Se o que te aborrece tiver fome, dá-lhe pão para comer; e se tiver sêde, dá-lhe agua para beber;
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.
Porque assim brazas lhe amontoarás sobre a cabeça; e o Senhor t'o pagará.
23 The north wind bringeth forth rain: so doth a backbiting tongue an angry countenance.
O vento norte afugenta a chuva, e a face irada a lingua fingida.
24 It is better to dwell in the comer of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
Melhor é morar n'um canto do terraço, do que com a mulher contenciosa, e isso em casa em que mais companhia haja.
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.
Como agua fria á alma cançada, taes são as boas novas de terra remota.
26 [As] a troubled fountain, and a corrupted spring, [so is] a righteous man that giveth way before the wicked.
Como fonte turva, e manancial corrupto, assim é o justo que cae diante do impio.
27 It is not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search out their own glory is [not] glory.
Comer muito mel não é bom; assim a pesquiza da propria gloria não é gloria.
28 He whose spirit is without restraint is [like] a city that is broken down and hath no wall.
Como a cidade derribada, sem muro, assim é o homem que não pode conter o seu espirito.
