Proverbs 22
1 A [good] name is rather to be chosen than great riches, [and] loving favour rather than silver and gold.
১প্রচুর ধনের থেকে সুখ্যাতি ভালো; রৌপ্য ও সুবর্ণ অপেক্ষা প্রসন্নতা ভাল।
2 The rich and the poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.
২ধনী ও গরিব এই বিষয়ে সমান; সদাপ্রভু তাদের সবার নির্মাতা
3 A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
৩সতর্ক লোক বিপদ দেখে নিজেকে লুকায়, কিন্তু অবোধেরা আগে যায় এবং তারা এর জন্য শাস্তি পায়।
4 The reward of humility [and] the fear of the LORD [is] riches, and honour, and life.
৪সদাপ্রভুর ভয় নম্রতা ও ধন, সম্মান ও জীবন আনে।
5 Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the froward: he that keepeth his soul shall be far from them.
৫বিপথগামীর পথে কাঁটা ও ফাঁদ থাকে; যে কেউ নিজের প্রাণ রক্ষা করে সে তাদের থেকে দূরে থাকবে।
6 Train up a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not depart from it.
৬শিশু যে পথে যেতে চায় তাকে সেই বিষয়ে শিক্ষা দাও, সে বয়ষ্ক হলেও তা ছাড়বে না।
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
৭ধনী গরিবদের উপরে কর্তৃত্ব করে এবং ঋণী যে ধার দেয় তার দাস হয়।
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap calamity: and the rod of his wrath shall fail.
৮যে দুষ্টতা বপন করে, সে বিপদের শস্য কাটবে, আর তার প্রকোপের দন্ড ব্যবহৃত হবে না।
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
৯যার উদার চোখ আছে সে আশীর্বাদিত হবে; কারণ সে গরিবের জন্য তার খাবারের অংশ ভাগ করে।
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and ignominy shall cease.
১০উপহাসককে নিক্ষেপ কর বিবাদ বাইরে যাবে এবং বিরোধ ও অপমানও শেষ হবে।
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, [for] the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.
১১যে বিশুদ্ধ হৃদয় ভালবাসে এবং যার কথায় অনুগ্রহ থাকে, সে রাজার বন্ধু হন।
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve [him that hath] knowledge, but he overthroweth the words of the treacherous man.
১২সদাপ্রভুর চোখ জ্ঞানবানকে রক্ষা করে; কিন্তু তিনি বিশ্বাসঘাতকের কথা ফেলে দেন।
13 The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be murdered in the streets.
১৩অলস বলে, “রাস্তায় সিংহ আছে! খোলা জায়গায় গেলে আমি মারা যাব।”
14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the LORD shall fall therein.
১৪ব্যভিচারিণীদের মুখ গভীর গর্ত; সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ তাদের ওপরে পড়বে।
15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
১৫বালকের হৃদয়ে নির্বুদ্ধিতা বাঁধা থাকে, কিন্তু শাসন দন্ড তা দূরে তাড়িয়ে দেবে।
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his [gain, and] he that giveth to the rich, [cometh] only to want.
১৬নিজের সম্পত্তি বাড়ানোর জন্য যে দরিদ্রদের প্রতি অত্যাচার করে অথবা যে ধনীকে দান করে, উভয়েরই দারিদ্রতা ঘটে।
17 Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge.
১৭তুমি মনোযোগ দিয়ে জ্ঞানবানদের কথা শোনো এবং তোমার হৃদয়ে আমার জ্ঞান প্রয়োগ কর।
18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, if they be established together upon thy lips.
১৮কারণ এটা তোমাকে আনন্দদায়ক করবে যদি তুমি সে সব তোমার মধ্যে রাখো, যদি সে সব তোমার ঠোঁটে প্রস্তুত থাকে।
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made [them] known to thee this day, even to thee.
১৯সদাপ্রভু যেন তোমার আশ্রয় হন, আমি আজ তোমাকে, তোমাকেই শিক্ষা দিলাম।
20 Have not I written unto thee excellent things of counsels and knowledge;
২০আমি কি তোমাকে ত্রিশটি নির্দেশের কথা এবং জ্ঞানের কথা বলিনি,
21 To make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, that thou mayest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?
২১যাতে তুমি সত্য বাক্যের নির্ভরযোগ্যতা শিখতে পার, যেন কেউ তোমাকে পাঠালে তুমি তাকে সত্য উত্তর দিতে পার।
22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor, neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
২২গরিব লোকের জিনিস চুরি কোরো না, কারণ সে গরিব অথবা অভাবগ্রস্তকে দরজায় ভেঙ্গো না,
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and despoil of life those that despoil them.
২৩কারণ সদাপ্রভু তাদের পক্ষ সমর্থন করবেন এবং তিনি তাদের প্রাণকে ছিনিয়ে নেবেন, যারা তাদের জিনিস চুরি করে।
24 Make no friendship with a man that is given to anger; and with a wrathful man thou shalt not go:
২৪যে কেউ রাগের সঙ্গে শাসন করে তার সঙ্গে বন্ধুতা কর না, যে ক্রোধ করে তার সঙ্গে যেও না;
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
২৫অথবা তুমি তার পথের বিষয়ে শেখো এবং তুমি নিজের জন্য ফাঁদ তৈরী কর।
26 Be thou not one of them that strike hands, [or] of them that are sureties for debts:
২৬কোনো এক জনের মতো হয়ো না যারা টাকার সম্পর্কে অঙ্গীকারে বদ্ধ হয় এবং তুমি অন্যের ঋণের জন্যে দায়ী হয়ো না।
27 If thou hast not wherewith to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
২৭যদি তোমার পরিশোধ করতে অভাব থাকে, তবে গায়ের নীচ থেকে তোমার শয্যা নিয়ে নেওয়া হবে কেন?
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
২৮সীমার পুরাতন পাথর সরিও না, যা তোমার পিতৃপুরুষরা স্থাপন করেছেন।
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.
২৯তুমি কি কোনো লোককে তার কাজে দক্ষ দেখছ? সে রাজাদের সামনে দাঁড়াবে, সে সাধারণ লোকেদের সামনে দাঁড়াবে না।
