Proverbs 21
1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD as the watercourses: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
੧ਰਾਜੇ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਣੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਖਾਲਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜਿੱਧਰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weigheth the hearts.
੨ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਚਾਲ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਧੀ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਚਦਾ ਹੈ।
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
੩ਬਲੀਦਾਨ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ।
4 An high look, and a proud heart, [even] the lamp of the wicked, is sin.
੪ਘਮੰਡੀ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦਾ ਦੀਵਾ, ਪਾਪ ਹਨ।
5 The thoughts of the diligent [tend] only to plenteousness: but every one that is hasty [hasteth] only to want.
੫ਮਿਹਨਤੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਯੋਜਨਾਵਾਂ ਕੇਵਲ ਲਾਭ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਕਾਹਲੀ ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਿਰੀ ਥੁੜ ਹੈ।
6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vapour driven to and fro; they [that seek them] seek death.
੬ਝੂਠ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਧਨ ਹਵਾ ਨਾਲ ਉੱਡ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਧੂੜ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮੌਤ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭਦੇ ਹਨ।
7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away; because they refuse to do judgment.
੭ਦੁਸ਼ਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੂੰਝ ਲੈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਮੁੱਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
8 The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked: but as for the pure, his work is right.
੮ਦੋਸ਼ੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਰਾਹ ਟੇਢਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a contentious woman in a wide house.
੯ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਡੁੱਲੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਛੱਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਨੁੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ।
10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbour findeth no favour in his eyes.
੧੦ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਲਈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
੧੧ਜਦੋਂ ਠੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਭੋਲਾ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਨੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ
12 The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked; [how] the wicked are overthrown to [their] ruin.
੧੨ਧਰਮੀ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਨੂੰ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਤਾਂ ਵਿਨਾਸ਼ ਲਈ ਢਹਿ ਪੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry, but shall not be heard.
੧੩ਜਿਹੜਾ ਗਰੀਬ ਦੀ ਦੁਹਾਈ ਉੱਤੇ ਕੰਨ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਲਵੇ, ਉਹ ਆਪ ਵੀ ਪੁਕਾਰੇਗਾ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ।
14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a present in the bosom strong wrath.
੧੪ਗੁਪਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਭੇਟ ਨਾਲ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ, ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਕਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਵੱਢੀ ਨਾਲ ਡਾਢਾ ਗੁੱਸਾ ਠੰਡਾ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
15 It is joy to the righteous to do judgment; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.
੧੫ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਧਰਮੀ ਲਈ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਕੁਕਰਮੀ ਲਈ ਘਬਰਾਹਟ ਹੈ।
16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall rest in the congregation of the dead.
੧੬ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਦਮੀ ਸਮਝ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦਾ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ ਭੂਤਨਿਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
੧੭ਜਿਹੜਾ ਰਾਗ ਰੰਗ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਥੁੜ ਰਹੇਗੀ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮੈਅ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਧਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; and the treacherous [cometh] in the stead of the upright.
੧੮ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਧਰਮੀ ਦੀ ਰਿਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਧੋਖੇਬਾਜ਼ ਸਿੱਧੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਪਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.
੧੯ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਅਤੇ ਚਿੜਨ ਪਤਨੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਰਹਿਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਉਜਾੜ ਦੇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ।
20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man swalloweth it up.
੨੦ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮੂਰਖ ਆਦਮੀ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਉਡਾ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
21 He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.
੨੧ਜਿਹੜਾ ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਦਯਾ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਜੀਉਣ, ਧਰਮ ਅਤੇ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and bringeth down the strength of the confidence thereof.
੨੨ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਬਲਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਗਰ ਉੱਤੇ ਚੜਾਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਭਰੋਸੇ ਦੇ ਬਲ ਨੂੰ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕਰ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
੨੩ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਦੀ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਰਾਖੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
24 The proud and haughty man, scorner is his name, he worketh in the arrogance of pride.
੨੪ਜੋ ਡਾਢੇ ਹੰਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੰਕਾਰੀ, ਅਭਮਾਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਠੱਠਾ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
25 The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.
੨੫ਆਲਸੀ ਦੀ ਇੱਛਿਆ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਂਹ ਜੋ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।
26 There is that coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.
੨੬ਕੋਈ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਭਰ ਲੋਭ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਧਰਮੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਰੁੱਕਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।
27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind!
੨੭ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦਾ ਬਲੀਦਾਨ ਘਿਣਾਉਣਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਬੁਰੀ ਨੀਤ ਨਾਲ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
28 A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth shall speak unchallenged.
੨੮ਝੂਠੇ ਗਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਸੁਣਿਆ ਓਹੀ ਕਹਿਣ ਨਾਲ ਸਥਿਰ ਰਹੇਗਾ।
29 A wicked man hardeneth his face: but as for the upright, he ordereth his ways.
੨੯ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਕਰੜਾ ਬਣਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਚਾਲ-ਚੱਲਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੋਚ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
੩੦ਕੋਈ ਬੁੱਧ, ਕੋਈ ਮੱਤ, ਕੋਈ ਸਲਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ, ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਚੱਲੇ।
31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but victory is of the LORD,
੩੧ਯੁੱਧ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ ਲਈ ਘੋੜਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਿੱਤ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੀ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
