Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, and rageth against all sound wisdom.
Quem se isola busca seu [próprio] desejo; ele se volta contra toda sabedoria.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
O tolo não tem prazer no entendimento, mas sim em revelar sua [própria] opinião.
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy cometh reproach.
Na vinda do perverso, vem também o desprezo; e com a desonra [vem] a vergonha.
4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.
A boca do homem são [como] águas profundas; e o manancial de sabedoria [como] um ribeiro transbordante.
5 To accept the person of the wicked is not good, [nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
Não é bom favorecer ao perverso para prejudicar ao justo num julgamento.
6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
Os lábios do tolo entram em briga, e sua boca chama pancadas.
7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
A boca do tolo é sua [própria] destruição, e seus lábios [são] armadilha para sua alma.
8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty, morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
As palavras do fofoqueiro são como alimentos deliciosos, que descem até o interior do ventre.
9 He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
O preguiçoso em fazer sua obra é irmão do causador de prejuízo.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
O nome do SENHOR é uma torre forte; o justo correrá até ele, e ficará seguro.
11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own imagination.
Os bens do rico são [como] uma cidade fortificada, e como um muro alto em sua imaginação.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [goeth] humility.
Antes da ruína o coração humano é orgulhoso; e antes da honra [vem] a humildade.
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
Quem responde antes de ouvir [age] como tolo e causa vergonha para si.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
O espírito do homem o sustentará quando doente; mas o espírito abatido, quem o levantará?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
O coração do prudente adquire conhecimento; e o ouvido dos sábios busca conhecimento.
16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
O presente do homem alarga seu caminho, e o leva perante a face dos grandes.
17 He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.
Aquele que primeiro mostra sua causa [parece ser] justo; mas [somente até] que outro venha, e o investigue.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
O sorteio cessa disputas, e separa poderosos [de se confrontarem].
19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.
O irmão ofendido [é mais difícil] que uma cidade fortificada; e as brigas são como ferrolhos de uma fortaleza.
20 A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
Do fruto da boca do homem seu ventre se fartará; dos produtos de seus lábios se saciará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do fruto dela.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Quem encontrou esposa, encontrou o bem; e obteve o favor do SENHOR.
23 The poor useth entreaties: but the rich answereth roughly.
O pobre fala com súplicas; mas o rico responde com durezas.
24 He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction: but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
O homem [que tem] amigos pode ser prejudicado [por eles]; porém há um amigo mais chegado que um irmão.
