Proverbs 18
1 He that separateth himself seeketh [his own] desire, and rageth against all sound wisdom.
Busca coisas desejáveis aquele que se separa e se entremete em toda a sabedoria.
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but only that his heart may reveal itself.
Não toma prazer o tolo na inteligência, senão em que se descubra o seu coração.
3 When the wicked cometh, there cometh also contempt, and with ignominy cometh reproach.
Vindo o ímpio, vem também o desprezo, e com a vergonha a ignomínia.
4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters; the wellspring of wisdom is as a flowing brook.
águas profundas são as palavras da boca do homem, e ribeiro trasbordante é a fonte da sabedoria.
5 To accept the person of the wicked is not good, [nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.
Não é bom ter respeito à pessoa do ímpio para derribar o justo em juízo.
6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for stripes.
Os beiços do tolo entram na contenda, e a sua boca por acoites brada.
7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
A boca do tolo é a sua própria destruição, e os seus lábios um laço para a sua alma.
8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty, morsels, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
As palavras do assoprador são como doces bocados; e elas descem ao intimo do ventre.
9 He also that is slack in his work is brother to him that is a destroyer.
Também o negligente na sua obra é irmão do desperdiçador.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Torre forte é o nome do Senhor; a ele correrá o justo, e estará em alto retiro.
11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own imagination.
A fazenda do rico é a cidade da sua fortaleza, e como um muro alto na sua imaginação.
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour [goeth] humility.
Antes de ser quebrantado eleva-se o coração do homem; e diante da honra vai a humildade.
13 He that giveth answer before he heareth, it is folly and shame unto him.
O que responde antes de ouvir, estultícia lhe é, e vergonha.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a broken spirit who can bear?
O espírito do homem sosterá a sua enfermidade, mas ao espírito abatido quem levantará?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
O coração do entendido adquire o conhecimento, e o ouvido dos sábios busca o conhecimento.
16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
O presente do homem lhe alarga o caminho e o leva diante dos grandes.
17 He that pleadeth his cause first [seemeth] just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him out.
O que primeiro começa o seu pleito justo é; porém vem o seu companheiro, e o examina.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
A sorte faz cessar os pleitos, e faz separação entre os poderosos.
19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.
O irmão ofendido é mais difícil de conquistar do que uma cidade forte; e as contendas são como os ferrolhos dum palácio.
20 A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; with the increase of his lips shall he be satisfied.
Do fruto da boca de cada um se fartará o seu ventre: dos renovos dos seus lábios se fartará.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do seu fruto.
22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
O que acha mulher acha o bem e alcança a benevolência do Senhor.
23 The poor useth entreaties: but the rich answereth roughly.
O pobre fala com rogos, mas o rico responde com durezas.
24 He that maketh many friends [doeth it] to his own destruction: but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
O homem que tem amigos haja-se amigavelmente, e há amigo mais chegado do que um irmão.
