Proverbs 17
1 Better is a dry morsel and quietness therewith, than an house full of feasting with strife.
೧ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯದ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತುಂಬಿದ ಔತಣಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ, ಸಮಾಧಾನದ ಒಣತುತ್ತೇ ಮೇಲು.
2 A servant that dealeth wisely shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part in the inheritance among the brethren.
೨ಜಾಣನಾದ ಆಳು ಮಾನಕಳೆದ ಮನೆಮಗನ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಧಿಕಾರಮಾಡುವನು, ಮನೆಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಬಾಧ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದುವನು.
3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
೩ಬೆಳ್ಳಿಬಂಗಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಪುಟಕುಲಿಮೆಗಳು ಶೋಧಿಸುವವು, ಹೃದಯಗಳನ್ನು ಶೋಧಿಸುವವನು ಯೆಹೋವನೇ.
4 An evil-doer giveth heed to wicked lips; [and] a liar giveth ear to a mischievous tongue.
೪ಕೆಡುಕನು ಕೆಟ್ಟ ತುಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುವನು, ಸುಳ್ಳುಗಾರನು ನಾಶನದ ನಾಲಿಗೆಗೆ ಕಿವಿಗೊಡುವನು.
5 Whoso mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker: [and] he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
೫ಬಡವರನ್ನು ಹಾಸ್ಯಮಾಡುವವನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಕರ್ತನನ್ನೇ ಹೀನೈಸುವನು, ಪರರ ವಿಪತ್ತಿಗೆ ಹಿಗ್ಗುವವನು ದಂಡನೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದದಿರನು.
6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.
೬ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸಂತತಿಯವರು ವೃದ್ಧರಿಗೆ ಕಿರೀಟ, ತಂದೆತಾಯಿಗಳು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಭೂಷಣ.
7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
೭ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ಮಾತು ಮೂರ್ಖನಿಗೆ ಅಯುಕ್ತ, ಸುಳ್ಳುಮಾತು ಉತ್ತಮನಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತೂ ಅಯುಕ್ತ.
8 A gift is [as] a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
೮ಕೊಡುವವನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಗೆ ಲಂಚವು ಚಿಂತಾಮಣಿಯಾಗಿದೆ, ಎಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋದರೂ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಅನುಕೂಲವೇ.
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love: but he that harpeth on a matter separateth chief friends.
೯ದೋಷವನ್ನು ಮುಚ್ಚಿಡುವವನು ಪ್ರೇಮವನ್ನು ಸೆಳೆಯುವನು, ಎತ್ತಿ ಆಡುತ್ತಿರುವವನು ಸ್ನೇಹವನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.
10 A rebuke entereth deeper into one that hath understanding than an hundred stripes into a fool.
೧೦ಮಂದಮತಿಗೆ ನೂರು ಪೆಟ್ಟು ಹೊಡೆಯುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ, ಗದರಿಕೆಯೇ ವಿವೇಕಿಗೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ.
11 An evil man seeketh only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
೧೧ದುರಾತ್ಮನಿಗೆ ದಂಗೆಯ ಮೇಲೆಯೇ ಮನಸ್ಸು, ಕ್ರೂರದೂತನು ಅವನನ್ನು ಆಕ್ರಮಿಸುವನು.
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
೧೨ಮೂರ್ಖತನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ಮೂಢನನ್ನು ಎದುರಾಗುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತಲೂ, ಮರಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳೆದುಕೊಂಡ ಕರಡಿಯನ್ನು ಎದುರಾಗುವುದು ಲೇಸು.
13 Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
೧೩ಉಪಕಾರಕ್ಕೆ ಅಪಕಾರಮಾಡುವವನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಕೇಡು ತಪ್ಪದು.
14 The beginning of strife is [as] when one letteth out water: therefore leave off contention, before there be quarrelling.
೧೪ವ್ಯಾಜ್ಯದ ಆರಂಭವು ಏರಿಗೆ ಬಿಲಬಿದ್ದಂತೆ, ಸಿಟ್ಟೇರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಂಚೆ ಜಗಳವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡು.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.
೧೫ದುಷ್ಟನನ್ನು ಶಿಷ್ಟನೆಂದು, ಶಿಷ್ಟನನ್ನು ದುಷ್ಟನೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸುವವರಿಬ್ಬರೂ ಯೆಹೋವನಿಗೆ ಅಸಹ್ಯರು.
16 Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he hath no understanding?
೧೬ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಮೂಢನ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಣವೇಕೆ? ಅವನಿಗೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲಾ.
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
೧೭ಮಿತ್ರನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯು ನಿರಂತರ, ಸಹೋದರನ ಜನ್ಮವು ಆಪತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾರ್ಥಕ.
18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, and becometh surety in the presence of his neighbour.
೧೮ನೆರೆಯವನಿಗಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಮಾಣಮಾಡಿ ಹೊಣೆಯಾದವನು ಬುದ್ಧಿಹೀನನೇ ಸರಿ.
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: he that raiseth high his gate seeketh destruction.
೧೯ಪಾಪಪ್ರಿಯನು ಕಲಹಪ್ರಿಯ, ಸೊಕ್ಕಿನಿಂದ ಮಾತನಾಡುವವನು ಕೇಡು ಬರಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
೨೦ವಕ್ರ ಹೃದಯನು ಶುಭವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯನು, ಕೆಟ್ಟ ನಾಲಿಗೆಯವನು ವಿಪತ್ತಿಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬೀಳುವನು.
21 He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
೨೧ಮೂರ್ಖನನ್ನು ಹೆತ್ತವರಿಗೆ ವ್ಯಥೆ, ಮೂರ್ಖನ ತಂದೆಗೆ ವ್ಯಸನ.
22 A merry heart is a good medicine: but a broken spirit drieth up the bones.
೨೨ಹರ್ಷಹೃದಯವು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ಔಷಧ, ಕುಗ್ಗಿದ ಮನದಿಂದ ಅನಾರೋಗ್ಯ.
23 A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom, to pervert the ways of judgment.
೨೩ದುಷ್ಟನು ಲಂಚವನ್ನು ಗುಪ್ತವಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ನ್ಯಾಯವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸುವನು.
24 Wisdom is before the face of him that hath understanding: but the eyes of a fool are in the ends of the earth.
೨೪ವಿವೇಕಿಗೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವೇ ಗುರಿಯಾಗಿರುವುದು, ಮೂಢನ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯು ದಿಗಂತಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅಲೆಯುವುದು.
25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bare him.
೨೫ಜ್ಞಾನಹೀನನಾದ ಮಗನು ತಂದೆಗೆ ಕಿರಿಕಿರಿ, ತಾಯಿಗೆ ಕರಕರೆ.
26 Also to punish the righteous is not good, [nor] to smite the noble for [their] uprightness.
೨೬ಶಿಷ್ಟನಿಗೆ ದಂಡನೆ ಯುಕ್ತವಲ್ಲ, ಧರ್ಮಿಷ್ಠನಿಗೆ ಪೆಟ್ಟು ಅಧರ್ಮ.
27 He that spareth his words hath knowledge: and he that is of a cool spirit is a man of understanding.
೨೭ಮಿತವಾಗಿ ಮಾತನಾಡುವವನು ಜ್ಞಾನಿ, ಶಾಂತಾತ್ಮನು ವಿವೇಕಿ.
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: when he shutteth his lips, he is [esteemed as] prudent.
೨೮ಮೂಢನು ಕೂಡ ಸುಮ್ಮನಿದ್ದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನಿಯೆಂತಲೂ, ತುಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಗಿಹಿಡಿದರೆ ವಿವೇಕಿಯೆಂತಲೂ ಅನ್ನಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವನು.
