Proverbs 13
1 A WISE son [heareth] his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
૧જ્ઞાની દીકરો પોતાના પિતાની શિખામણ માને છે, પણ અડિયલ દીકરો ઠપકાને ગણકારતો જ નથી.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the treacherous [shall eat] violence.
૨માણસ પોતાના શબ્દોથી હિતકારક ફળ ભોગવે છે, પણ કપટીનો જીવ જુલમ વેઠશે.
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life: [but] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.
૩પોતાનું મોં સંભાળીને બોલનાર પોતાના જીવનું રક્ષણ કરે છે, પરંતુ જીભને છૂટી મૂકનાર વિનાશ નોતરે છે.
4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
૪આળસુનો જીવ ઇચ્છા કરે છે, પણ કશું પામતો નથી, પણ ઉદ્યમી વ્યક્તિ પૂર્ણ રીતે સંતુષ્ટ હોય છે.
5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
૫સદાચારી માણસ જૂઠને ધિક્કારે છે, પણ દુષ્ટ માણસ અપમાન અને ફજેતીનો ભોગ બને છે.
6 Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
૬નેકી ભલા માણસોનું રક્ષણ કરે છે; પણ દુષ્ટતા પાપીઓને ઉથલાવી નાખે છે,
7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth.
૭કેટલાક કશું ન હોવા છતાં ધનવાન હોવાનો દંભ કરે છે અને કેટલાક એવા પણ છે કે જેઓ કંગાળ હોવા છતાં ધનવાન હોય છે.
8 The ransom of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor heareth no threatening.
૮દ્રવ્યવાનના જીવનો બદલો તેનું દ્રવ્ય છે, પણ ગરીબ વ્યક્તિને ધમકી સાંભળવી પડતી નથી.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
૯નેકીવાનોનો પ્રકાશ આનંદ છે, પણ દુષ્ટનો દીવો હોલવી નાંખવામાં આવશે.
10 By pride cometh only contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
૧૦અભિમાનથી તો કેવળ ઝઘડો જ ઉત્પન્ન થાય છે; પણ સારી સલાહ માનનારાઓ પાસે ડહાપણ છે.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall have increase.
૧૧કુમાર્ગે મેળવેલી સંપત્તિ કદી ટકતી નથી. પણ મહેનતથી સંગ્રહ કરેલી સંપત્તિની વૃદ્ધિ થાય છે.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.
૧૨આશાનું ફળ મળવામાં વિલંબ થતાં અંતઃકરણ ઝૂરે છે, પણ ઇચ્છાઓની પરિપૂર્ણતા જ જીવન છે.
13 Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
૧૩શિખામણને નકારનારનો નાશ થાય છે, પણ આજ્ઞાઓનો આદર કરનારને બદલો મળે છે.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
૧૪જ્ઞાનીનું શિક્ષણ જીવનનો ઝરો છે, જે તે વ્યક્તિને મૃત્યુના ફાંદામાંથી ઉગારી લે છે.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of the treacherous is rugged.
૧૫સારી સમજવાળાને કૃપા મળે છે, પણ કપટીનો માર્ગ ખરબચડો છે.
16 Every prudent man worketh with knowledge: but a fool spreadeth out folly.
૧૬પ્રત્યેક ડાહ્યો માણસ ડહાપણથી નિર્ણય લે છે; પણ મૂર્ખ પોતાની મૂર્ખાઈ જાહેર કરે છે.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil: but a faithful ambassador is health.
૧૭દુષ્ટ સંદેશાવાહક મુશ્કેલીમાં સપડાઈ જાય છે, પણ વિશ્વાસુ સંદેશવાહક સમાધાન લાવે છે.
18 Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
૧૮જે શિખામણનો ત્યાગ કરે છે તેને ગરીબી અને અપમાન પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે, પણ ઠપકાનો સ્વીકાર કરે છે તેને માન મળે છે.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
૧૯ઇચ્છાની તૃપ્તિ આત્માને મીઠી લાગે છે, પણ દુષ્ટતાથી પાછા વળવું એ મૂર્ખોને આઘાતજનક લાગે છે.
20 Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise: but the companion of fools shall smart for it.
૨૦જો તું જ્ઞાની માણસોની સંગત કરશે, તો તું જ્ઞાની થશે. પણ જે મૂર્ખની સોબત કરે છે તેને નુકસાન થશે.
21 Evil pursueth sinners: but the righteous shall be recompensed with good.
૨૧પાપીઓની પાછળ નુકસાન લાગેલું રહે છે, પણ જે સારા માણસો છે તેઓને હિતકારક બદલો મળશે.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children; and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.
૨૨સારો માણસ પોતાનાં સંતાનોનાં સંતાનોને માટે વારસો મૂકી જાય છે, પણ પાપીનું ધન નેકીવાનને સારુ ભરી મૂકવામાં આવે છે.
23 Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice.
૨૩ગરીબોના ખેતરમાં ઘણું અનાજ ઊપજે છે, પણ અન્યાયના કારણથી નાશ પામનારા માણસો પણ છે.
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
૨૪જે પોતાના બાળકને શિસ્તપાલનની કેળવણી માટે સોટી મારતો નથી તે પોતાના બાળકનો દુશ્મન છે; પણ તેના પર પ્રીતિ કરનાર તેને વેળાસર શિક્ષા કરે છે.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
૨૫નેકીવાન પોતાને સંતોષ થતાં સુધી ખાય છે, પણ દુષ્ટનું પેટ હંમેશાં ભૂખ્યુંને ભૂખ્યું જ રહે છે.
