Proverbs 11
1 A FALSE balance is an abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.
Falsche Wage ist Jahwe ein Greuel, aber volles Gewicht ist sein Wohlgefallen.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
Kommt Übermut, so kommt auch Schande, aber bei den Demütigen ist Weisheit.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of the treacherous shall destroy them.
Die Rechtschaffenen leitet ihre Unschuld, aber die Treulosen richtet ihre Bosheit zu Grunde.
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Keine Habe nützt am Tage des Strafgerichts, aber Gerechtigkeit errettet vom Tode.
5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
Die Gerechtigkeit des Unsträflichen macht seinen Weg eben, aber der Gottlose wird durch sein gottloses Wesen fallen.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but they that deal treacherously shall be taken in their own mischief.
Die Rechtschaffenen wird ihre Gerechtigkeit erretten, aber die Treulosen werden durch ihre eigene Gier gefangen.
7 When a wicked man dieth [his] expectation shall perish: and the hope of iniquity perisheth.
Mit dem Tode des gottlosen Menschen wird seine Hoffnung zunichte, und die ruchlose Erwartung ist zunichte geworden.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.
Der Fromme wird aus der Not erlöst, und der Gottlose kommt an seine Stelle.
9 With his mouth the godless man destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the righteous be delivered.
Mit dem Munde bringt der Frevler seinen Nächsten ins Verderben, aber die Frommen werden durch Erkenntnis gerettet.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Ob des Glücks der Frommen frohlockt die Stadt, und wenn die Gottlosen umkommen, ertönt Jubel.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Durch den Segen der Rechtschaffenen kommt die Stadt empor, aber durch den Mund der Gottlosen wird sie niedergerissen.
12 He that despiseth his neighbour is void of wisdom: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.
Der Unverständige bezeigt seinem Nächsten Verachtung, aber ein einsichtsvoller Mann schweigt still.
13 He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.
Wer als Verleumder umhergeht, verrät Geheimnisse, aber wer zuverlässiges Sinnes ist, hält die Sache verborgen.
14 Where no wise guidance is, the people falleth: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Wenn es an Führung fehlt, kommt ein Volk zu Fall, aber wohl steht's, wo genug Ratgeber sind.
15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: but he that hateth suretiship is sure.
Sehr schlimm ergeht's dem, der für einen anderen Bürge geworden ist; wer aber das Handschlag-Geben haßt, ist sicher.
16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and violent men retain riches.
Ein anmutiges Weib empfängt Ehre, wie die Gewaltthätigen Reichtum erhalten.
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Ein liebreicher Mann erweist sich selber Gutes, aber der Grausame quält sein eignes Fleisch.
18 The wicked earneth deceitful wages: but he that soweth righteousness [hath] a sure reward.
Der Gottlose erwirkt trügerischen Gewinn, wer aber Gerechtigkeit säet, wahrhaftigen Lohn.
19 He that is stedfast in righteousness [shall attain] unto life: and he that pursueth evil [doeth it] to his own death.
Trachtet einer nach Gerechtigkeit, so führt's zum Leben, jagt er aber dem Bösen nach, so führt's zu seinem Tode.
20 They that are perverse in heart are an abomination to the LORD: but such as are perfect in [their] way are his delight.
Ein Greuel sind für Jahwe, die ein verkehrtes Herz haben; die aber unsträflich wandeln, gefallen ihm wohl.
21 [Though] hand [join] in hand, the evil man shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
Die Hand darauf! der Böse wird nicht straflos bleiben, aber das Geschlecht der Frommen entrinnt.
22 [As a] jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, [so is] a fair woman which is without discretion.
Wie ein goldener Ring im Rüssel einer Sau, so ein Weib, das schön ist, aber nichts von Schicklichkeit weiß.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good: [but] the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Der Frommen Wünschen führt zu lauter Glück der Gottlosen Hoffen zum Zorngericht.
24 There is that scattereth, and increaseth yet more; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but [it tendeth] only to want.
Mancher teilt freigebig aus und bekommt immer mehr; ein anderer spart selbst an dem, was sich gebührt, und wird doch ärmer.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
Eine wohlthätige Seele wird reich gelabt, und wer reichlich tränkt, der wird auch getränkt werden.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Wer Getreide zurückhält, den verwünschen die Leute, aber Segen kommt über das Haupt dessen, der Getreide verkauft.
27 He that diligently seeketh good seeketh favour: but he that searcheth after mischief, it shall come unto him.
Wer auf Gutes bedacht ist, sucht, was wohlgefällig ist; wer aber nach Bösem trachtet, über den wird es kommen.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as the green leaf.
Wer sich auf seinen Reichtum verläßt, der wird fallen, aber die Frommen werden grünen wie das Laub.
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the foolish shall be servant to the wise of heart.
Wer sein eigenes Haus verstört, wird Wind zum Besitz erlangen, und der Narr wird zum Knechte dessen, der weises Sinnes ist.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that is wise winneth souls.
Die Frucht des Frommen ist ein Lebensbaum, und der Weise gewinnt die Herzen.
31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: how much more the wicked and the sinner!
So dem Frommen auf Erden vergolten wird, wie viel mehr dem Gottlosen und Sünder!
