Proverbs 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:
૧ઇઝરાયલનો રાજા, જે દાઉદનો પુત્ર હતો, તે સુલેમાનનાં નીતિવચનો.
2 To know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
૨ડહાપણ તથા શિક્ષણ સંપાદન થાય, ડહાપણની વાતો સમજવામાં આવે,
3 To receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness and judgment and equity;
૩ડહાપણભરેલી વર્તણૂકની, નેકીની, ન્યાયીપણાની અને ઇનસાફની કેળવણી મળે.
4 To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion:
૪ભોળા માણસને ચતુરાઈ મળે અને જુવાનોને ડહાપણ તથા વિવેકબુદ્ધિ મળે.
5 That the wise man may hear, and increase in learning; and that the man of understanding may attain unto sound counsels:
૫જ્ઞાની પુરુષ સાંભળીને વિદ્ધત્તાની વૃદ્ધિ કરે અને બુદ્ધિમાન માણસને માર્ગદર્શન મળે.
6 To understand a proverb, and a figure; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
૬કહેવતો તથા અલંકારો; જ્ઞાનીઓનાં વચનો તથા તેઓના મર્મો સમજાય.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: [but] the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
૭યહોવાહનો ભય એ ડહાપણનો આરંભ છે. મૂર્ખો ડહાપણને તથા શિક્ષણને ધિક્કારે છે.
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
૮મારા દીકરા, તારા પિતાની શિખામણ સાંભળ અને તારી માતાનું શિક્ષણ તજીશ નહિ.
9 For they shall be a chaplet of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck.
૯તેઓ તારા મસ્તકે શોભાયમાન મુગટરૂપ અને તારા ગળાના હારરૂપ થશે.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.
૧૦મારા દીકરા, જો પાપીઓ તને લલચાવે, તો તું તેઓનું માનતો નહિ.
11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause;
૧૧જો તેઓ કહે કે, “અમારી સાથે ચાલ, આપણે ખૂન કરવા માટે સંતાઈ રહીએ; આપણે નિર્દોષને વિનાકારણ હુમલો કરવાને છુપાઈ રહીએ.
12 Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol, and whole, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
૧૨શેઓલની જેમ આપણે તેઓને જીવતા અને જીવતા ગળી જઈએ, જાણે કે તેઓ કબરમાં ગરક થઈ ગયા હોય. (Sheol h7585)
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil;
૧૩વિવિધ પ્રકારનો કિંમતી માલ આપણા હાથમાં આવશે; આપણે લૂંટથી આપણાં ઘરો ભરીશું.
14 Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; we will all have one purse:
૧૪તું અમારી સાથે જોડાઈ જા આપણે બધા સિલકની સહિયારી થેલી રાખીશું.”
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:
૧૫મારા દીકરા, તેઓના માર્ગમાં તેઓની સાથે ન ચાલ; તેઓના માર્ગેથી તારા પગ પાછા રાખ;
16 For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
૧૬તેઓના પગ દુષ્ટતા કરવા માટે દોડે છે અને તેઓ લોહી વહેવડાવવા માટે ઉતાવળ કરે છે.
17 For in vain is the net spread, in the eyes of any bird:
૧૭કારણ કે જ્યારે પક્ષીઓ સાવધ હોય ત્યારે જાળ પાથરવી તે નિરર્થક છે.
18 And these lay wait for their own blood, they lurk privily for their own lives.
૧૮આ માણસો પોતાને જ મારી નાખવાને માટે સંતાઈ રહે છે, તેઓ પોતાના જ જીવને માટે ગુપ્ત રીતે છુપાઈ રહે છે.
19 So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; it taketh away the life of the owners thereof.
૧૯ધનના પ્રત્યેક લોભીના માર્ગો આવા જ હોય છે. આવું ધન તેના માલિકોનું જ સત્યાનાશ વાળે છે.
20 Wisdom crieth aloud in the street; she uttereth her voice in the broad places;
૨૦ડહાપણ શેરીએ શેરીએ મોટેથી પોકારે છે, તે જાહેર સ્થળોમાં પોતાની વાણી ઉચ્ચારે છે.
21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse; at the entering in of the gates, in the city, she uttereth her words:
૨૧તે ઘોંઘાટવાળા રસ્તા પર બૂમો પાડે છે અને શહેરના દરવાજે ઊભું રહીને વચનો ઉચ્ચારે છે,
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and scorners delight them in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
૨૨“હે અજ્ઞાનીઓ, તમે ક્યાં સુધી ભોળપણને વળગી રહેશો? ઓ ઠઠ્ઠા-મશ્કરી કરનારાઓ, તમે ક્યાં સુધી ઠઠ્ઠા-મશ્કરી કરવામાં આનંદ મેળવશો? અને ઓ મૂર્ખાઓ, તમે ક્યાં સુધી ડહાપણને ધિક્કારશો?
23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
૨૩મારી ચેતવણી પર ધ્યાન આપો; હું મારો આત્મા તમારા પર રેડીશ; હું મારાં વચનો તમને જણાવીશ.
24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;
૨૪મેં બોલાવ્યા અને તમે ઇનકાર કર્યો; મેં મારો હાથ લાંબો કર્યો છે, પણ કોઈએ તેની દરકાર કરી નહિ.
25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:
૨૫પણ તમે મારી સર્વ શિખામણને તુચ્છ ગણી અને મારા ઠપકાને પણ ગણકારતા નથી.
26 I also will laugh in [the day of] your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;
૨૬માટે તમારા પર મુશ્કેલીઓ આવશે ત્યારે હું હાસ્ય કરીશ, જ્યારે તમારા પર ભય આવશે ત્યારે હું તમારી મશ્કરી કરીશ.
27 When your fear cometh as a storm, and your calamity cometh on as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come upon you.
૨૭એટલે જ્યારે તોફાનની જેમ તમારા પર ભય આવી પડશે અને વંટોળિયાની જેમ તમારા પર વિપત્તિઓ ધસી આવશે; જ્યારે સંકટ તથા વેદના તમારા પર આવશે, ત્યારે હું તમારી મશ્કરી કરીશ.
28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me diligently, but they shall not find me:
૨૮ત્યારે તેઓ મને પોકાર કરશે પણ હું ઉત્તર આપીશ નહિ; તેઓ ખંતથી મને શોધશે, પણ હું તેઓને મળીશ નહિ.
29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:
૨૯કેમ કે તેઓએ વિદ્યાનો ધિક્કાર કર્યો છે અને તેઓએ યહોવાહનો ભય રાખવાનું ઇચ્છ્યું નહિ.
30 They would none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof:
૩૦તેઓએ મારી સલાહ બિલકુલ માની નહિ અને તેઓએ મારો બધો ઠપકો તુચ્છ ગણ્યો.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
૩૧તેઓ પોતાના માર્ગનું ફળ ભોગવશે અને પોતાની કુયુક્તિઓની પૂરેપૂરી શિક્ષા ભોગવશે.
32 For the backsliding of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
૩૨અબુદ્ધો પાછા હઠી જાય તે બાબત તેઓનો સંહાર કરશે; અને મૂર્ખોની બેદરકારી તેઓનો વિનાશ કરશે.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely, and shall be quiet without fear of evil.
૩૩પણ જે કોઈ મારું કહ્યું સાંભળશે તે સુરક્ષિત રહેશે અને નુકસાન થવાના ભય વગર શાંતિમાં રહેશે.”
