Philemon 1
1 Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon our beloved and fellow-worker,
Paul, prisonnier de Jésus-Christ, et son frère Timothée, — à notre cher Philémon, le compagnon de nos travaux;
2 and to Apphia our sister, and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the church in thy house:
à notre soeur Apphia; à Archippe notre compagnon d'armes, ainsi qu'à l'Église qui se réunit dans ta maison:
3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
que la grâce et la paix vous soient données par Dieu, notre Père, et par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I thank my God always, making mention of thee in my prayers,
Je ne cesse de rendre grâces à mon Dieu, en faisant mention de toi dans mes prières,
5 hearing of thy love, and of the faith which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;
depuis que j'entends parler de ta charité pour tous les saints et de ta foi au Seigneur Jésus.
6 that the fellowship of thy faith may become effectual, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in you, unto Christ.
Je lui demande, que l'union que la foi établit entre nous, soit efficace pour te faire reconnaître tout bien qui est en nous en vue de Jésus-Christ.
7 For I had much joy and comfort in thy love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through thee, brother.
Nous avons, en effet, ressenti bien de la joie et bien de la consolation à la pensée de ta charité, car, frère, elle a tranquillisé le coeur des saints.
8 Wherefore, though I have all boldness in Christ to enjoin thee that which is befitting,
C'est pourquoi, bien que j'aie en Christ toute liberté pour te rappeler ton devoir,
9 yet for love’s sake I rather beseech, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now a prisoner also of Christ Jesus:
je préfère, par amour, t'adresser une prière. Tel que je suis, moi, Paul, vieillard, et, qui plus est, actuellement prisonnier de Jésus-Christ,
10 I beseech thee for my child, whom I have begotten in my bonds, Onesimus,
je t'adresse une prière pour l'enfant que j'ai engendré dans ma captivité, pour Onésime (Utile),
11 who was aforetime unprofitable to thee, but now is profitable to thee and to me:
qui autrefois t'était inutile, mais qui maintenant t'est fort utile, ainsi qu'à moi.
12 whom I have sent back to thee in his own person, that is, my very heart:
Je te le renvoie, et toi, accueille-le, cet objet de ma tendresse.
13 whom I would fain have kept with me, that in thy behalf he might minister unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
J'aurais voulu le retenir auprès de moi, afin qu'à ta considération il me servît dans la captivité que je souffre pour l’évangile;
14 but without thy mind I would do nothing; that thy goodness should not be as of necessity, but of free will.
toutefois, je n'ai rien voulu faire sans ton avis, afin que ce bienfait de ta part ne paraisse pas forcé, mais qu'il soit volontaire.
15 For perhaps he was therefore parted [from thee] for a season, that thou shouldest have him for ever; (aiōnios g166)
Peut-être aussi Onésime n'a-t-il été séparé de toi momentanément, qu'afin que tu le recouvres pour l'éternité, (aiōnios g166)
16 no longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much rather to thee, both in the flesh and in the Lord.
non plus comme un esclave, mais comme étant fort au-dessus d'un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, tout particulièrement aimé de moi, et combien plus de toi, à qui il doit être cher, et en lui-même, et dans le Seigneur.
17 If then thou countest me a partner, receive him as myself.
S'il est donc vrai que tu me tiennes pour un ami, accueille-le comme tu m'accueillerais moi-même.
18 But if he hath wronged thee at all, or oweth [thee] aught, put that to mine account;
S'il t'a fait quelque tort ou s'il te doit quelque chose, passe-le-moi en compte.
19 I Paul write it with mine own hand, I will repay it: that I say not unto thee how that thou owest to me even thine own self besides.
Moi, Paul, je te l'écris de ma main, je te rembourserai... pour ne pas dire que tu es mon débiteur, et même de ta propre personne.
20 Yea, brother, let me have joy of thee in the Lord: refresh my heart in Christ.
Oui, frère, fais-moi ce plaisir, dans le Seigneur; tranquillise mon coeur en Christ.
21 Having confidence in thine obedience I write unto thee, knowing that thou wilt do even beyond what I say.
Je t'écris, en comptant sur ton obéissance, sûr même que tu feras au delà de ce que je demande.
22 But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I hope that through your prayers I shall be granted unto you.
Prépare-moi en même temps un logement, car j'espère que, grâce à vos prières, je vous serai rendu.
23 Epaphras, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus, saluteth thee;
Épaphras, mon compagnon de captivité, te salue en Jésus-Christ,
24 [and so do] Mark, Aristarchus, Demas, Luke, my fellow-workers.
ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, les compagnons de mes travaux.
25 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ soit avec votre esprit!
