Matthew 8
1 And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
Or, lorsqu’il fut descendu de la montagne, une grande foule le suivit:
2 And behold, there came to him a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Et voilà qu’un lépreux venant à lui l’adorait, disant: Seigneur, si vous voulez, vous pouvez me guérir.
3 And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway his leprosy was cleansed.
Et Jésus étendant la main le toucha, disant: Je le veux, sois guéri. Et à l’instant sa lèpre fut guérie.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Alors Jésus lui dit: Prends garde, ne le dis à personne, mais va, montre-toi au prêtre, et offre le don prescrit par Moïse, en témoignage pour eux.
5 And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Et comme il était entré dans Capharnaüm, un centurion s’approcha de lui, le priant,
6 and saying, Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Et disant: Seigneur, mon serviteur gît paralytique dans ma maison, et il souffre violemment.
7 And he saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
Jésus lui dit: J’irai, et le guérirai.
8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
Mais le centurion répondant: Seigneur, dit-il, je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit; mais dites seulement une parole et mon serviteur sera guéri.
9 For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Car moi qui suis un homme soumis à la puissance d’un autre et qui ai sous moi des soldats, je dis à l’un: Va, et il va; et à un autre: Viens, et il vient, et à mon serviteur: Fais cela, et il le fait.
10 And when Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Or Jésus, l’entendant, fut dans l’admiration, et il dit à ceux qui le suivaient: En vérité, je vous le dis; je n’ai pas trouvé une si grande foi dans Israël.
11 And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:
Aussi je vous dis que beaucoup viendront de l’Orient et de l’Occident et auront place dans le royaume des cieux avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob;
12 but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Tandis que les enfants du royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres extérieures; là sera le pleur et le grincement de dents.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.
Alors Jésus dit au centurion: Va, et que selon que tu as cru il te soit fait. Et son serviteur fut guéri à cette heure même.
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick of a fever.
Jésus étant venu ensuite dans la maison de Pierre vit sa belle-mère gisante et ayant la fièvre.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.
Il lui toucha la main, et la fièvre la quitta; aussitôt elle se leva, et elle les servait.
16 And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick:
Le soir étant venu, on lui présenta beaucoup de démoniaques, et par sa parole il chassait les malins esprits, et il guérit tous les malades:
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our diseases.
Afin que s’accomplît la parole du prophète Isaïe, disant: Lui-même a pris nos infirmités et il s’est chargé de nos maladies.
18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
Or Jésus voyant une grande foule autour de lui ordonna de passer à l’autre côté de la mer.
19 And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
Alors un scribe s’approchant, lui dit: Maître, je vous suivrai partout où vous irez.
20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Et Jésus lui dit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux du ciel des nids; mais le Fils de l’homme n’a pas où reposer sa tête.
21 And another of the disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Un autre de ses disciples lui dit: Seigneur, permettez-moi racontèrent d’aller d’abord et d’ensevelir mon père.
22 But Jesus saith unto him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.
Mais Jésus lui dit: Suis-moi et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts.
23 And when he was entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Étant ensuite monté dans la barque, ses disciples le suivirent
24 And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
Et voilà qu’une grande tempête se leva sur la mer; de sorte que la barque était couverte par les vagues; lui-même cependant dormait.
25 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save, Lord; we perish.
C’est pourquoi ses disciples s’approchèrent de lui et l’éveillèrent, disant: Seigneur, sauvez-nous, nous périssons.
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Jésus leur dit: Pourquoi craignez-vous, hommes de peu de foi? Alors, se levant, il commanda aux vents et à la mer, et il se fit un grand calme.
27 And the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?
Or, saisis d’admiration, ces hommes disaient: Quel est celui-ci, que les vents et la mer lui obéissent?
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming forth out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man could pass by that way.
Lorsqu’il fut venu de l’autre côté de la mer, dans le pays des Géraséniens, coururent au-devant de lui deux démoniaques, sortant des sépulcres extrêmement furieux, au point que personne n’osait passer par ce chemin;
29 And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Et ils se mirent à crier, disant: Qu’importe à nous et à vous, Jésus fils de Dieu? Êtes-vous venu ici avant le temps pour nous tourmenter?
30 Now there was afar off from them a herd of many swine feeding.
Or était non loin d’eux un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient;
31 And the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine.
Et les démons le priaient, disant: Si vous nous chassez d’ici, envoyez-nous dans ce troupeau de pourceaux.
32 And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the swine: and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.
Il leur répondit: Allez. Eux donc, étant sortis, entrèrent dans les pourceaux; et voilà que le troupeau tout entier se précipita impétueusement dans la mer; et ils moururent dans les eaux.
33 And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were possessed with devils.
Et les gardiens s’enfuirent; et venant dans la ville, ils racontèrent tout ceci, et le sort de ceux qui avaient été démoniaques.
34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought [him] that he would depart from their borders.
Aussitôt toute la ville sortit au-devant de Jésus; et l’ayant vu, ils le priaient de sortir de leurs confins.
