Matthew 8
1 And when he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
Jésus étant descendu de la montagne, une grande foule le suivit.
2 And behold, there came to him a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Et voici qu'un lépreux, s'approchant, se prosterna devant lui et lui dit: Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre net.
3 And he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou made clean. And straightway his leprosy was cleansed.
Jésus, étendant la main, le toucha et lui dit: Je le veux, sois net! Et aussitôt, il fut nettoyé de sa lèpre.
4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
Jésus lui dit: Garde-toi d'en parler à personne; mais va, montre-toi au sacrificateur, et offre le don que Moïse a prescrit, afin que cela leur serve de témoignage.
5 And when he was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him,
Comme Jésus entrait à Capernaüm, un centenier vint à lui et lui adressa cette prière:
6 and saying, Lord, my servant lieth in the house sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
Seigneur, mon serviteur est au lit dans ma maison, atteint de paralysie et cruellement tourmenté.
7 And he saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
Jésus lui dit: J'irai et je le guérirai.
8 And the centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
Le centenier répondit: Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit; mais dis seulement une parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
9 For I also am a man under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
Car moi, qui suis sous la puissance d'autrui, j'ai sous moi des soldats, et je dis à l'un: Va, et il va; et à l'autre: Viens, et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais cela, et il le fait.
10 And when Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
Jésus, l'ayant entendu, fut dans l'admiration et dit à ceux qui le suivaient: En vérité, je vous le déclare, chez aucun homme en Israël je n'ai trouvé une si grande foi.
11 And I say unto you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:
Aussi, je vous dis que plusieurs viendront de l'Orient et de l'Occident, et ils seront à table dans le royaume des cieux avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob.
12 but the sons of the kingdom shall be cast forth into the outer darkness: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Mais les fils du royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres du dehors; c'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; as thou hast believed, [so] be it done unto thee. And the servant was healed in that hour.
Alors Jésus dit au centenier: Va, et qu'il te soit fait selon ta foi! Et à cette heure même, son serviteur fut guéri.
14 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother lying sick of a fever.
Puis Jésus entra dans la maison de Pierre; et il vit sa belle-mère qui était au lit, malade de la fièvre.
15 And he touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose, and ministered unto him.
Il lui toucha la main, et la fièvre la quitta. Elle se leva et se mit à les servir.
16 And when even was come, they brought unto him many possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all that were sick:
Quand le soir fut venu, on lui amena plusieurs démoniaques, et il chassa les esprits par sa parole. Il guérit aussi tous ceux qui étaient malades,
17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our diseases.
de sorte que fut accompli ce qui avait été dit par Ésaïe, le prophète: «Il a pris lui-même nos infirmités et il a porté nos maladies.»
18 Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
Jésus, voyant une grande foule autour de lui, donna l'ordre de passer à l'autre bord.
19 And there came a scribe, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
Alors un scribe, s'étant approché, lui dit: Maître, je te suivrai partout où tu iras.
20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the heaven [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jésus lui répondit: Les renards ont des tanières, et les oiseaux du ciel, des nids; mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas un lieu où il puisse reposer sa tête.
21 And another of the disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Un autre des disciples lui dit: Seigneur, permets que j'aille auparavant ensevelir mon père.
22 But Jesus saith unto him, Follow me; and leave the dead to bury their own dead.
Mais Jésus lui dit: Suis-moi; et laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts.
23 And when he was entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Ensuite il entra dans la barque, et ses disciples le suivirent.
24 And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
Et voici qu'il s'éleva sur la mer une si grande tourmente, que la barque était couverte par les flots; mais Jésus dormait.
25 And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Save, Lord; we perish.
Ses disciples, s'étant approchés, le réveillèrent, en disant: Seigneur, sauve-nous, nous périssons!
26 And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Il leur dit: Pourquoi avez-vous peur, gens de peu de foi? Alors, s'étant levé, il imposa le silence aux vents et à la mer; et il se fit un grand calme.
27 And the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him?
Et ces hommes, saisis d'admiration, disaient: Quel est donc celui-ci, que même les vents et la mer lui obéissent?
28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gadarenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming forth out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man could pass by that way.
Quand il fut arrivé à l'autre bord, dans le pays des Gadaréniens, deux démoniaques vinrent à sa rencontre, sortant des tombeaux; ils étaient furieux, que personne n'osait passer par ce chemin-là.
29 And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
Ils se mirent à crier: Qu'y a-t-il entre nous et toi. Fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu ici pour nous tourmenter avant le temps?
30 Now there was afar off from them a herd of many swine feeding.
Or, il y avait au loin un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient.
31 And the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine.
Et les démons adressaient à Jésus cette prière: Si tu nous chasses, envoie-nous dans ce troupeau de pourceaux.
32 And he said unto them, Go. And they came out, and went into the swine: and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep into the sea, and perished in the waters.
Il leur dit: Allez! Les démons, étant sortis, entrèrent dans les pourceaux; et voici que tout le troupeau se précipita dans la mer, du haut de la falaise, et il périt dans les eaux.
33 And they that fed them fled, and went away into the city, and told everything, and what was befallen to them that were possessed with devils.
Alors ceux qui le faisaient paître s'enfuirent; et ils allèrent à la ville raconter tout ce qui s'était passé et ce qui était arrivé aux démoniaques.
34 And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought [him] that he would depart from their borders.
Aussitôt, tous les habitants de la ville sortirent au-devant de Jésus; et, l'ayant vu, ils le prièrent de se retirer de leur pays.
