Matthew 3
1 And in those days cometh John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
In jenen Tagen trat Johannes der Täufer auf. Er predigte in der Steppe von Judäa
2 saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
und sprach: "Bekehret euch: das Himmelreich ist nahe!"
3 For this is he that was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight.
Ihn meint der Prophet Isaias da, wo er sagt: "Eine Stimme ruft in der Steppe: Richtet her den Weg des Herrn, macht eben seine Pfade".
4 Now John himself had his raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey.
Dieser Johannes trug ein Kamelhaarkleid und um die Lenden einen Ledergürtel; seine Nahrung waren Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.
5 Then went out unto him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan;
Jerusalem zog zu ihm hinaus und ganz Judäa, sowie die ganze Jordansau.
6 and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
Man ließ sich von ihm im Jordanfluß taufen und bekannte dabei seine Sünden.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Als er nun viele von den Pharisäern und den Sadduzäern sah, wie sie zu seinem Taufplatz kamen, sprach er zu ihnen: "Ihr Schlangenbrut! Wer hat euch eingeredet, ihr würdet dem drohenden Strafgericht entrinnen?
8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
Bringt also Frucht würdig der Bekehrung.
9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Glaubt ja nicht, daß ihr denken dürft: Wir haben Abraham zum Vater. Ich sage euch: Gott kann aus diesen Steinen da Kinder für Abraham erstehen lassen.
10 And even now is the axe laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Schon liegt die Axt an der Wurzel der Bäume. Jeder Baum, der keine gute Frucht trägt, wird umgehauen und ins Feuer geworfen.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and [with] fire:
Ich taufe euch mit Wasser zur Bekehrung; er aber, der nach mir kommt, ist mächtiger als ich; ich bin nicht wert, ihm auch nur die Schuhe zu tragen. Er wird euch mit dem Heiligen Geist und mit Feuer taufen.
12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Schon hat er seine Schaufel in der Hand; und er wird seine Tenne reinigen: Den Weizen wird er in seinen Speicher bringen, die Spreu jedoch verbrennen in einem unauslöschlichen Feuer."
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Damals kam Jesus von Galiläa her an den Jordan, um von ihm getauft zu werden.
14 But John would have hindered him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Johannes aber wollte es ihm wehren; er sprach: "Ich sollte doch von dir getauft werden, und du kommst zu mir?"
15 But Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer [it] now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffereth him.
Allein Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Gib dich für jetzt zufrieden! Denn so gehört es sich für uns, all das zu erfüllen, was Rechtens ist." Da ließ er ihm den Willen.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway from the water: and lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon him;
Nach der Taufe stieg Jesus sogleich aus dem Wasser, und siehe, es öffneten sich ihm die Himmel: Er sah den Geist Gottes herniederschweben so wie eine Taube und auf ihn zukommen.
17 and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
Und siehe, eine Stimme rief vom Himmel her: "Dies ist mein geliebter Sohn; an ihm habe ich mein Wohlgefallen."
