Matthew 24
1 And Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way; and his disciples came to him to shew him the buildings of the temple.
Jésus sortit du temple, et se mit en route. Ses disciples s'approchèrent de lui pour lui montrer les bâtiments du temple.
2 But he answered and said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Mais il leur répondit: « Vous voyez toutes ces choses, n'est-ce pas? En vérité, je vous le dis, il ne restera pas ici pierre sur pierre qui ne soit renversée. »
3 And as he sat on the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? (aiōn g165)
Comme il était assis sur le mont des Oliviers, les disciples s'approchèrent de lui en privé, et dirent: « Dis-nous, quand cela arrivera-t-il? Quel est le signe de ton avènement et de la fin du monde? » (aiōn g165)
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray.
Jésus leur répondit: « Prenez garde que personne ne vous égare.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am the Christ; and shall lead many astray.
Car plusieurs viendront en mon nom, disant: « Je suis le Christ », et ils égareront beaucoup de gens.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for [these things] must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.
Vous entendrez parler de guerres et de rumeurs de guerres. Veillez à ne pas vous troubler, car tout cela doit arriver, mais la fin n'est pas encore venue.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places.
Car une nation s'élèvera contre une nation, et un royaume contre un royaume; et il y aura des famines, des pestes et des tremblements de terre en divers lieux.
8 But all these things are the beginning of travail.
Mais toutes ces choses sont le commencement des douleurs de l'enfantement.
9 Then shall they deliver you up unto tribulation, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all the nations for my name’s sake.
« Alors ils te livreront à l'oppression et te feront mourir. Vous serez haïs de toutes les nations, à cause de mon nom.
10 And then shall many stumble, and shall deliver up one another, and shall hate one another.
Alors beaucoup trébucheront, se livreront les uns aux autres, et se haïront.
11 And many false prophets shall arise, and shall lead many astray.
Plusieurs faux prophètes s'élèveront et égareront beaucoup de gens.
12 And because iniquity shall be multiplied, the love of the many shall wax cold.
Parce que l'iniquité se multipliera, l'amour de beaucoup se refroidira.
13 But he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved.
Mais celui qui persévérera jusqu'à la fin sera sauvé.
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations; and then shall the end come.
Cette Bonne Nouvelle du Royaume sera prêchée dans le monde entier, en témoignage à toutes les nations, et alors viendra la fin.
15 When therefore ye see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let him that readeth understand),
« Lorsque donc vous verrez l'abomination de la désolation, dont a parlé le prophète Daniel, se dresser dans le lieu saint (que le lecteur comprenne),
16 then let them that are in Judaea flee unto the mountains:
que ceux qui sont en Judée fuient dans les montagnes.
17 let him that is on the housetop not go down to take out the things that are in his house:
Que celui qui est sur le toit ne descende pas pour enlever les choses qui sont dans sa maison.
18 and let him that is in the field not return back to take his cloke.
Que celui qui est dans les champs ne revienne pas pour prendre ses vêtements.
19 But woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days!
Mais malheur aux femmes enceintes et aux mères qui allaitent en ces jours-là!
20 And pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on a sabbath:
Priez pour que votre fuite ne se fasse pas en hiver ni un jour de sabbat,
21 for then shall be great tribulation, such as hath not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever shall be.
car alors il y aura de grandes souffrances, telles qu'il n'y en a pas eu depuis le commencement du monde jusqu'à maintenant, non, et qu'il n'y en aura jamais.
22 And except those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Si ces jours n'avaient été abrégés, aucune chair n'aurait été sauvée. Mais, à cause des élus, ces jours seront abrégés.
23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is the Christ, or, Here; believe [it] not.
Si quelqu'un vous dit: « Voici le Christ » ou « Voilà le Christ », ne le croyez pas.
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.
Car il s'élèvera de faux christs et de faux prophètes, qui feront de grands signes et des prodiges, afin d'égarer, si possible, même les élus.
25 Behold, I have told you beforehand.
« Voici, je vous l'ai dit d'avance.
26 If therefore they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the wilderness; go not forth: Behold, he is in the inner chambers; believe [it] not.
Si donc on vous dit: Voici, il est dans le désert, ne sortez pas; ou bien: Voici, il est dans les chambres intérieures, ne le croyez pas.
27 For as the lightning cometh forth from the east, and is seen even unto the west; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.
Car, comme l'éclair vient de l'orient et se montre jusqu'en occident, ainsi en sera-t-il de l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
28 Wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.
Car là où est le cadavre, c'est là que les vautours se rassemblent.
29 But immediately, after the tribulation of those days, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
« Mais aussitôt après les souffrances de ces jours-là, le soleil s'obscurcira, la lune ne donnera plus sa lumière, les étoiles tomberont du ciel, et les puissances des cieux seront ébranlées;
30 and then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
et alors le signe du Fils de l'homme paraîtra dans le ciel. Alors toutes les tribus de la terre se lamenteront, et elles verront le Fils de l'homme venant sur les nuées du ciel avec puissance et grande gloire.
31 And he shall send forth his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Il enverra ses anges au son de la trompette, et ils rassembleront ses élus des quatre vents, d'une extrémité du ciel à l'autre.
32 Now from the fig tree learn her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh;
« Apprends maintenant cette parabole du figuier: Lorsque sa branche est devenue tendre et produit ses feuilles, vous savez que l'été est proche.
33 even so ye also, when ye see all these things, know ye that he is nigh, [even] at the doors.
De même, vous aussi, quand vous voyez toutes ces choses, sachez qu'il est proche, même aux portes.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all these things be accomplished.
Je vous le dis en toute certitude, cette génération ne passera pas que toutes ces choses ne soient accomplies.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Le ciel et la terre passeront, mais mes paroles ne passeront pas.
36 But of that day and hour knoweth no one, not even the angels of heaven, neither the Son, but the Father only.
Mais personne ne connaît ce jour ni cette heure, pas même les anges du ciel, mais mon Père seul.
37 And as [were] the days of Noah, so shall be the coming of the Son of man.
Ce que furent les jours de Noé, tel sera l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
38 For as in those days which were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark,
Car, comme dans les jours qui précédèrent le déluge, on mangeait et on buvait, on se mariait et on donnait en mariage, jusqu'au jour où Noé entra dans la barque,
39 and they knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall be the coming of the Son of man.
et qu'on ne sut rien jusqu'à ce que le déluge vînt et les emportât tous, ainsi en sera-t-il de l'avènement du Fils de l'homme.
40 Then shall two men be in the field; one is taken, and one is left:
Alors deux hommes seront dans un champ: l'un sera pris et l'autre laissé.
41 two women [shall be] grinding at the mill; one is taken, and one is left.
Deux femmes moudront au moulin: l'une sera prise et l'autre laissée.
42 Watch therefore: for ye know not on what day your Lord cometh.
Veillez donc, car vous ne savez pas à quelle heure votre Seigneur viendra.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what watch the thief was coming, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken through.
Mais sachez que si le maître de maison avait su à quelle veille de la nuit le voleur allait venir, il aurait veillé et n'aurait pas permis qu'on entre dans sa maison.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in an hour that ye think not the Son of man cometh.
C'est pourquoi, vous aussi, tenez-vous prêts, car à l'heure que vous n'attendez pas, le Fils de l'homme viendra.
45 Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household, to give them their food in due season?
« Quel est donc le serviteur fidèle et avisé, que son maître a établi sur sa maison, pour lui donner sa nourriture au temps convenable?
46 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
Heureux ce serviteur que son maître trouvera en train de le faire quand il viendra.
47 Verily I say unto you, that he will set him over all that he hath.
En vérité, je vous le dis, il l'établira sur tout ce qu'il possède.
48 But if that evil servant shall say in his heart, My lord tarrieth;
Mais si ce mauvais serviteur dit en son cœur: Mon maître tarde à venir,
49 and shall begin to beat his fellow-servants, and shall eat and drink with the drunken;
s'il se met à battre ses compagnons de service, à manger et à boire avec les ivrognes,
50 the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not,
le maître de ce serviteur viendra le jour où il ne s'y attend pas et l'heure où il ne le sait pas,
51 and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be the weeping and gnashing of teeth.
il le mettra en pièces et lui donnera sa part avec les hypocrites. C'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents.
