Lamentations 3
1 I AM the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.
Ich bin der Mann, der Elend sah unter der Rute seines Grimms.
2 He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness and not in light.
Mich hat er getrieben und geführt in Finsternis und tiefes Dunkel.
3 Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.
Ja, gegen mich kehrt er immer auf neue den ganzen Tag seine Hand.
4 My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.
Aufgerieben hat er mein Fleisch und meine Haut, meine Gebeine zerbrochen,
5 He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.
rings um mich aufgebaut Gift und Drangsal,
6 He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.
mich in tiefe Finsternis versetzt wie in der Urzeit Verstorbene.
7 He hath fenced me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.
Er hat mich ummauert ohne Ausweg, meine Ketten beschwert;
8 Yea, when I cry and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.
ob ich auch schreie und rufe, er hemmt mein Gebet,
9 He hath fenced up my ways with hewn stone, he hath made my paths crooked.
vermauerte meine Wege mit Quadern, verstörte meine Pfade.
10 He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.
Ein lauernder Bär war er mir, ein Löwe im Hinterhalt.
11 He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.
Er hat meine Wege in die Irre geführt und mich zerrissen, mich verödet gemacht,
12 He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.
hat seinen Bogen gespannt und mich aufgestellt als Ziel für den Pfeil,
13 He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.
in meine Nieren gesandt seines Köchers Söhne.
14 I am become a derision to all my people; and their song all the day.
Ich ward zum Gelächter für alle Völker, ihr Spottlied den ganzen Tag.
15 He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.
Er sättigte mich mit Bitternissen, berauschte mich mit Wermut
16 He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes.
und ließ meine Zähne Kiesel zermalmen, mich in Asche mich wälzen.
17 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.
Du raubtest meiner Seele den Frieden, ich vergaß des Glücks
18 And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from the LORD.
und sprach: dahin ist meine Lebenskraft, mein Vertrauen auf Jahwe.
19 Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.
Gedenke meines Elends und meiner Irrsal, des Wermuts und des Gifts!
20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.
Es gedenkt, es gedenkt und ist gebeugt in mir meine Seele.
21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
Dies will ich zu Herzen nehmen, darum will ich hoffen:
22 [It is of] the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
Jahwes Gnaden sind ja noch nicht aus, sein Erbarmen ja nicht zu Ende;
23 They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
jeden Morgen ist es neu, groß ist deine Treue!
24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
Mein Teil ist Jahwe, spricht meine Seele, darum will ich auf ihn hoffen.
25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
Gütig ist Jahwe gegen die, so auf ihn harren, gegen die Seele, die ihn sucht.
26 It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.
Gut ist's, schweigend zu harren auf die Hilfe Jahwes.
27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.
Gut ist's dem Manne, zu tragen das Joch in seiner Jugend.
28 Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.
Er sitze einsam und schweige, weil er's ihm auferlegt.
29 Let him put his mouth in the dust; if so be there may he hope.
Er berühre mit seinem Munde den Staub, vielleicht ist noch Hoffnung;
30 Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.
biete dem, der ihn schlägt, die Wange, werde mich Schmach gesättigt.
31 For the Lord will not cast off for ever.
Denn nicht auf ewig verstößt der Herr.
32 For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies.
sondern, wenn er betrübt hat, so erbarmt er sich wieder nach der Fülle seiner Gnade.
33 For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.
Denn er plagt nicht aus Lust und betrübt die Menschenkinder.
34 To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,
Daß man unter die Füße tritt alle Gefangenen des Landes,
35 To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,
das Recht eines Mannes beugt vor dem Antlitz des Höchsten,
36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.
eines Menschen Streitsache verdreht, - sollte das der Herr nicht sehn?
37 Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?
Wer ist, der da sprach, und es geschah, ohne daß der Herr es geboten?
38 Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?
Geht nicht aus dem Munde des Höchsten hervor das Böse und das Gute?
39 Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?
Was seufzt der Mensch, so lang er lebt? Ein jeder seufze über seine Sünden!
40 Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.
Laßt uns unsern Wandel prüfen und erforschen und zu Jahwe uns bekehren!
41 Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.
Laßt uns Herz und Hände erheben zu Gott im Himmel!
42 We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.
Wir haben gesündigt und sind ungehorsam gewesen, du hast nicht vergeben,
43 Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.
hast dich verhüllt in Zorn und uns verfolgt, gemordet ohne Erbarmen,
44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that [our] prayer should not pass through.
hast dich in Gewölk verhüllt, daß kein Gebet hindurchdrang.
45 Thou hast made us [as] the offscouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.
Zu Kehricht und Abscheu machtest du uns inmitten der Völker.
46 all our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.
Ihren Mund rissen auf über uns alle unsere Feinde.
47 Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.
Grauen und Grube ward uns zu teil, Verwüstung und Verderben.
48 Mine eye runneth down with rivers of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Ströme Wassers thränt mein Auge über das Verderben der Tochter meines Volks.
49 Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,
Ruhelos fließt mein Auge ohne Aufhören,
50 Till the LORD look down, and behold from heaven.
bis daß herniederschaue und darein sehe Jahwe vom Himmel.
51 Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.
Meine Thräne zehrt an meiner Seele um alle Töchter meiner Stadt.
52 They have chased me sore like a bird, that are mine enemies without cause.
Mich jagten, jagten wie einen Vogel die, so mir grundlos feind sind,
53 They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.
machten in der Grube mein Leben verstummen und warfen Steine auf mich.
54 Waters flowed over mine head; I said, I am cut off.
Wasser strömte über mein Haupt; ich dachte: ich bin verloren!
55 I called upon thy name, O LORD, out of the lowest dungeon.
Ich rief deinen Namen, Jahwe, aus tief unterster Grube.
56 Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.
Du hörtest mein Rufen: “Verschließe dein Ohr nicht; komm mich zu erquicken, mir zu helfen!”
57 Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not.
Du warst nahe, als ich dich rief, sprachst: “Sei getrost!”
58 O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.
Du führtest, o Herr, meine Sache, erlöstest mein Leben.
59 O LORD, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.
Du hast, o Jahwe, meine Unterdrückung gesehn, hilf mir zu meinem Recht!
60 Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.
Du hast all' ihre Rachgier gesehn, all' ihre Pläne wider mich,
61 Thou hast heard their reproach, O LORD, and all their devices against me;
hast ihr Schmähen gehört, o Jahwe, all' ihre Pläne wider mich,
62 The lips of those that rose up against me, and their imagination against me all the day.
die Reden meiner Widersacher und ihr stetes Trachten wider mich.
63 Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.
Schau, ob sie sitzen oder aufstehen, ich bin ihr Spottlied!
64 Thou wilt render unto them a recompence, O LORD, according to the work of their hands.
Du wirst ihnen lohnen, Jahwe, nach ihrer Hände Werk,
65 Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.
wirst ihr Herz verstocken - dein Fluch über sie!
66 Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of the LORD.
Du wirst sie im Zorn verfolgen und vertilgen unter Jahwes Himmel weg!
