Judges 1
1 And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?
यहोशू की मृत्यु के बाद इस्राएलियों ने याहवेह से यह प्रश्न किया, “कनानियों से युद्ध करने सबसे पहले किसका जाना सही होगा?”
2 And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
याहवेह ने उत्तर दिया, “सबसे पहले यहूदाह जाएगा; यह याद रहे कि यह जगह मैंने उसके अधिकार में दे दी है.”
3 And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.
यहूदाह वंशजों ने अपने भाई शिमओन वंशजों से कहा, “हमें दी गई जगह में आ जाओ, कि हम कनानियों से युद्ध करें तथा समय आने पर मैं तुम्हें दी गई जगह में आकर युद्ध करूंगा.” शिमओन वंशज इसके लिए राज़ी हो गये.
4 And Judah went up; and the LORD delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.
यहूदाह वंशजों ने आक्रमण किया और याहवेह ने कनानी और परिज्ज़ी उनके अधीन कर दिए, बेज़ेक में उन्होंने दस हज़ार सैनिकों को मार गिराया.
5 And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek: and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.
बेज़ेक में उन्होंने अदोनी-बेज़ेक से युद्ध किया और कनानियों तथा परिज्ज़ियों को मार दिया;
6 But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.
मगर अदोनी-बेज़ेक भाग निकला, उन्होंने उसका पीछा किया, उसे पकड़ लिया और उसके हाथों और पैरों के अंगूठे काट दिए.
7 And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered [their meat] under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.
अदोनी-बेज़ेक ने उनसे कहा, “सत्तर राजा, जिनके हाथ-पैर के अंगूठे काट दिए गए होते थे, मेरी मेज़ की चूर-चार इकट्ठा करते थे. परमेश्वर ने मेरे द्वारा किए गए काम का बदला मुझे दे दिया है.” वे उसे येरूशलेम ले आए, जहां उसकी मृत्यु हो गई.
8 And the children of Judah fought against Jerusalem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and set the city on fire.
तब यहूदाह गोत्रजों ने येरूशलेम पर हमला किया, उसे अपने अधीन कर लिया, उसके निवासियों को तलवार से मार दिया और नगर में आग लगा दी.
9 And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.
इसके बाद यहूदाह गोत्रज उन कनानियों से युद्ध करने निकल पड़े, जो नेगेव के पहाड़ी इलाकों में तथा तराई में रह रहे थे.
10 And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba: ) and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.
सो यहूदाह ने उन कनानियों पर हमला कर दिया, जो हेब्रोन में रह रहे थे. हेब्रोन का पुराना नाम किरयथ-अरबा था. उन्होंने शेशाइ, अहीमान और तालमाई को हरा दिया.
11 And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir. (Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.)
इसके बाद वे वहां से दबीर निवासियों की ओर बढ़े; दबीर का पुराना नाम किरयथ-सेफेर था.
12 And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.
कालेब ने घोषणा की, “जो कोई किरयथ-सेफेर पर आक्रमण करके उसे अपने अधीन कर लेगा, मैं उसका विवाह अपनी पुत्री अक्सा से कर दूंगा.”
13 And Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it: and he gave him Achsah his daughter to wife.
कालेब के छोटे भाई केनज़ के पुत्र ओथनीएल ने किरयथ-सेफेर को अधीन कर लिया, तब कालेब ने उसे अपनी पुत्री अक्सा उसकी पत्नी होने के लिए दे दी.
14 And it came to pass, when she came [unto him], that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she lighted down from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?
विवाह होने के बाद जब अक्सा अपने पति से बात कर रही थी, उसने उसे अपने पिता से एक खेत मांगने के लिए कहा. जब वह अपने गधे पर से उतर गई, तब कालेब ने उससे पूछा, “तुम्हें क्या चाहिए?”
15 And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.
उसने उत्तर दिया, “मुझे आपके आशीर्वाद की ज़रूरत है! जैसे आप मुझे नेगेव क्षेत्र दे ही चुके हैं, और यदि हो सके तो वैसे मुझे जल के सोते भी दे दीजिए.” तब कालेब ने उसे ऊपर का सोता, नीचे का सोता दोनों दे दिया.
16 And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ brother in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt with the people.
मोशेह के ससुर के वंशज अर्थात् केनीवासी खजूर वृक्षों के नगर से यहूदिया के लोगों के साथ यहूदिया के निर्जन प्रदेश के इलाके में चले गए. यह जगह अराद के पास दक्षिण में है. वे वहां के निवासियों के साथ ही बस गए.
17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.
तब यहूदाह वंशजों ने अपने भाई शिमओन वंशजों के साथ जाकर सेफथ में निवास कर रहे कनानियों को मार दिया, और नगर का पूरा विनाश कर दिया. सो इस नगर का नाम होरमाह पड़ गया.
18 Also Judah took Gaza with the border thereof, and Ashkelon with the border thereof, and Ekron with the border thereof.
यहूदाह ने अज्जाह, अश्कलोन तथा एक्रोन नगरों को इनकी सीमा सहित अपने अधीन कर लिया.
19 And the LORD was with Judah; and he drave out [the inhabitants of] the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.
याहवेह यहूदाह की ओर थे, उन्होंने पहाड़ी इलाके को अपने अधीन कर लिया; किंतु वे घाटी के रहनेवालों को निकाल न सके, क्योंकि उनके पास लोहे के रथ थे.
20 And they gave Hebron unto Caleb, as Moses had spoken: and he drave out thence the three sons of Anak.
उन्होंने कालेब को हेब्रोन दे दिया, जैसी मोशेह ने उनसे प्रतिज्ञा की थी. कालेब ने वहां से अनाक के तीन पुत्रों को खदेड़ दिया था.
21 And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem: but the Jebusites dwelt with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem, unto this day.
मगर बिन्यामिन के वंशजों ने येरूशलेम में रह रहे यबूसियों को वहां से नहीं निकाला. परिणामस्वरूप यबूसी आज तक बिन्यामिन के वंशजों के साथ येरूशलेम में ही रह रहे हैं.
22 And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el: and the LORD was with them.
इसी तरह योसेफ़ के परिवार ने बेथेल पर हमला कर दिया. याहवेह उनकी ओर थे.
23 And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)
योसेफ़ के परिवार ने बेथेल का भेद लिया. बेथेल नगर का पुराना नाम लूज़ था.
24 And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.
भेद लेने गए जासूसों ने नगर से बाहर आ रहे एक व्यक्ति को देखा. उन्होंने उससे विनती की, “कृपया हमें नगर में जाने का रास्ता दिखाएं. हम तुम पर कृपा करेंगे.”
25 And he shewed them the entrance into the city, and they smote the city with the edge of the sword; but they let the man go and all his family.
सो उसने उन्हें नगर में जाने का रास्ता दिखा दिया. उन्होंने पूरे नगर को तलवार से मार दिया, मगर उस व्यक्ति और उसके परिवार को छोड़ दिया.
26 And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day.
वह व्यक्ति हित्तियों के देश में चला गया, जहां एक नगर बसाया गया, जिसका नाम उसने लूज़ रखा, जिसे आज तक इसी नाम से जाना जाता है.
27 And Manasseh did not drive out [the inhabitants of] Beth-shean and her towns, nor [of] Taanach and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns: but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
मगर मनश्शेह ने न तो बेथ-शान और इसके गांवों को अपने अधीन कर लिया और न ही तानख और इसके गांवों को, न दोर तथा इसके निवासियों और इसके गांवों को, न इब्लीम और इसके निवासियों और गांवों को, न मगिद्दो और इसके निवासियों और गांवों को. इस कारण कनानी निडर होकर उस देश में रहते रहे.
28 And it came to pass, when Israel was waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.
तब वह समय भी आया, जब इस्राएली सामर्थ्यी हो गए. तब उन्होंने कनानियों को जबरन मजदूरी पर तो लगा दिया और उन्हें पूरी रीति से न निकाला.
29 And Ephraim drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.
गेज़ेर में रह रहे कनानियों को एफ्राईम के वंशजों ने नहीं निकाला. इस कारण कनानी गेज़ेर में उन्हीं के बीच रहते रहे.
30 Zebulun drave not out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributary.
ज़ेबुलून ने कितरोनवासियों को नहीं निकाला और न नहलोलवासियों को, इस कारण कनानी उनके बीच में रहते रहे और उन्हें जबरन मज़दूर बनना पड़ा.
31 Asher drave not out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob:
आशेर ने न तो अक्को के, न सीदोन के, न अहलाब के, न अकज़ीब के, न हेलबा के, न अफेक के, न रेहोब के निवासियों को निकाला.
32 but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: for they did not drive them out.
इस कारण अशेरी कनानियों के बीच में ही रहते रहे, जो इस क्षेत्र के मूल निवासी थे. उन्हें बाहर निकाला ही न गया था.
33 Naphtali drave not out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became tributary unto them.
नफताली ने बेथ-शेमेश के निवासियों को नहीं निकाला, और न ही बेथ-अनात के निवासियों को. वे कनानियों के बीच में ही रहते रहे, जो इस देश के मूल निवासी थे. बेथ-शेमेश तथा बेथ-अनात के निवासी उनके लिए जबरन मज़दूर होकर रह गए.
34 And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the hill country: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:
इसके बाद अमोरियों ने दान के वंशजों को पहाड़ी इलाके में रहने के लिए मजबूर कर दिया, क्योंकि अमोरियों ने उन्हें घाटी में प्रवेश करने ही न दिया.
35 but the Amorites would dwell in mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim: yet the hand of the house of Joseph prevailed, so that they became tributary.
अमोरी अय्जालोन तथा शआलबीम में हेरेस पर्वत पर जबरन रहते रहे, मगर जब योसेफ़ के वंशज सामर्थ्यी हो गए, तब इन्हें भी जबरन उनका मज़दूर हो जाना पड़ा.
36 And the border of the Amorites was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from the rock, and upward.
अमोरियों की सीमा अक्रब्बीम की चढ़ाई से शुरू होकर सेला होते हुए ऊपर की ओर बढ़ती है.
