Jonah 3
1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ವಾಕ್ಯವು ಎರಡನೆಯ ಸಾರಿ ಯೋನನಿಗೆ ಬಂದಿತು.
2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
“ಎದ್ದು ಆ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಟ್ಟಣವಾದ ನಿನೆವೆಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ, ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಹೇಳಿದ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ಅದರ ನಿವಾಸಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾರು,” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರು.
3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city, of three days’ journey.
ಹೀಗೆ ಯೋನನು ಯೆಹೋವ ದೇವರ ಮಾತಿಗೆ ವಿಧೇಯನಾಗಿ ನಿನೆವೆಗೆ ಹೋದನು. ನಿನೆವೆಯು ಮೂರು ದಿವಸದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದ ಮಹಾ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಪಟ್ಟಣವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
ಆಗ ಯೋನನು ಒಂದು ದಿವಸದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಿ, ಪಟ್ಟಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿ, “ಇನ್ನು ನಾಲ್ವತ್ತು ದಿವಸಗಳಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ನಿನೆವೆ ನಾಶವಾಗುವುದು,” ಎಂದು ಕೂಗಿ ಹೇಳಿದನು.
5 And the people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
ನಿನೆವೆಯ ಮನುಷ್ಯರು, ದೇವರನ್ನು ನಂಬಿ, ಉಪವಾಸವನ್ನು ಸಾರಿ, ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ದೊಡ್ಡವನು ಮೊದಲುಗೊಂಡು ಚಿಕ್ಕವನವರೆಗೂ ಗೋಣಿತಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಉಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡರು.
6 And the tidings reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
ಆ ಮಾತು ನಿನೆವೆಯ ಅರಸನಿಗೆ ಮುಟ್ಟಿದಾಗ, ಅವನು ತನ್ನ ಸಿಂಹಾಸನದಿಂದ ಎದ್ದು, ತನ್ನ ನಿಲುವಂಗಿಯನ್ನು ತೆಗೆದಿಟ್ಟು, ಗೋಣಿತಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಉಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು, ಬೂದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಂಡನು.
7 And he made proclamation and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
ಅವನು ನಿನೆವೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಘೋಷಣೆಯನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿದನು: “ಅರಸನ ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರ ತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ: “ಮನುಷ್ಯರಾಗಲಿ, ಮೃಗಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ದನಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ಕುರಿಗಳಾಗಲಿ, ಏನನ್ನೂ ರುಚಿ ನೋಡದಿರಲಿ, ಮೇಯದಿರಲಿ, ನೀರನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯದಿರಲಿ.
8 but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
ಆದರೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯರೂ ಮೃಗಗಳೂ ಗೋಣಿತಟ್ಟು ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು, ಜೋರಾದ ಧ್ವನಿಯಿಂದ ದೇವರಿಗೆ ಮೊರೆಯಿಡಲಿ. ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ದುರ್ಮಾರ್ಗಗಳನ್ನೂ, ತಮ್ಮ ತಮ್ಮ ಕೈಗಳಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಹಿಂಸಾಚಾರವನ್ನೂ ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತಿರುಗಲಿ.
9 Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ, ದೇವರು ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ತಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಬದಲಾಯಿಸಿ, ಅನುಕಂಪದಿಂದ ತಮ್ಮ ಉಗ್ರಕೋಪವನ್ನು ತಡೆದು, ನಾವು ನಾಶವಾಗದೆ ಉಳಿಸುವರೇನೋ, ಯಾರು ಬಲ್ಲರು?”
10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, which he said he would do unto them; and he did it not.
ಆಗ ದೇವರು, ನಿನೆವೆಯವರು ತಮ್ಮ ದುರ್ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ತಿರುಗಿಕೊಂಡರೆಂದು ಕಂಡು, ತಾವು ವಿಧಿಸುವುದಾಗಿ ನುಡಿದ ವಿನಾಶವನ್ನು ಅವರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬರಮಾಡದೆ, ಅವರನ್ನು ಕನಿಕರಿಸಿದರು.
