Job 9
1 Then Job answered and said,
Mas Jó respondeu, dizendo:
2 Of a truth I know that it is so: but how can man be just with God?
Na verdade sei que é assim; mas como pode o ser humano ser justo diante de Deus?
3 If he be pleased to contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
Ainda se quisesse disputar com ele, não conseguiria lhe responder uma coisa sequer em mil.
4 [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?
Ele é sábio de coração, e poderoso em forças. Quem se endureceu contra ele, e teve paz?
5 Which removeth the mountains, and they know it not, when he overturneth them in his anger.
Ele transporta as montanhas sem que o saibam; e as transtorna em seu furor.
6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble.
Ele remove a terra de seu lugar, e faz suas colunas tremerem.
7 Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
Ele dá ordem ao sol, e ele não brilha; e sela as estrelas.
8 Which alone stretcheth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
Ele é o que sozinho estende os céus, e anda sobre as alturas do mar.
9 Which maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
Ele é o que fez a Usra, o Órion, as Plêiades, e as constelações do sul.
10 Which doeth great things past finding out; yea, marvelous things without number.
Ele é o que faz coisas grandes e incompreensíveis, e inúmeras maravilhas.
11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Eis que ele passa diante de mim, sem que eu não o veja; ele passará diante de mim, sem que eu saiba.
12 Behold, he seizeth [the prey], who can hinder him? who will say unto him, What doest thou?
Eis que, quando ele toma, quem pode lhe impedir? Quem poderá lhe dizer: O que estás fazendo?
13 God will not withdraw his anger; the helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.
Deus não reverterá sua ira, e debaixo dele se encurvam os assistentes de Raabe.
14 How much less shall I answer him, and choose out my words [to reason] with him?
Como poderia eu lhe responder, e escolher minhas palavras contra ele?
15 Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer; I would make supplication to mine adversary.
A ele, ainda que eu fosse justo, não lhe responderia; a meu juiz pediria misericórdia.
16 If I had called, and he had answered me; yet would I not believe that he hearkened unto my voice.
Ainda que eu lhe chamasse, e ele respondesse, mesmo assim não creria que ele tivesse dado ouvidos à minha voz.
17 For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
Pois ele tem me quebrantado com tempestade, e multiplicado minhas feridas sem causa.
18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
Ele não me permite respirar; em vez disso, me farta de amarguras.
19 If [we speak] of the strength of the mighty, lo, [he is there]! and if of judgment, who will appoint me a time?
Quanto às forças, eis que ele é forte; e quanto ao juízo, [ele diria]: Quem me convocará?
20 Though I be righteous, mine own mouth shall condemn me: though I be perfect, it shall prove me perverse.
Ainda que eu seja justo, minha boca me condenaria; se eu fosse inocente, então ela me declararia perverso.
21 I am perfect; I regard not myself; I despise my life.
Mesmo se eu for inocente, não estimo minha alma; desprezo minha vida.
22 It is all one; therefore I say, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
É tudo a mesma coisa; por isso digo: ele consome ao inocente e ao perverso.
23 If the scourge slay suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
Quando o açoite mata de repente, ele ri do desespero dos inocentes.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of the judges thereof; if [it be] not [he], who then is it?
A terra está entregue nas mãos dos perversos. Ele cobre o rosto de seus juízes. Se não é ele, então quem é?
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
Meus dias foram mais rápidos que um homem que corre; fugiram, e não viram o bem.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that swoopeth on the prey.
Passaram como barcos de papiro, como a águia que se lança à comida.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will put off my [sad] countenance, and be of good cheer:
Se disser: Esquecerei minha queixa, mudarei o aspecto do meu rosto, e sorrirei,
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
[Ainda] teria pavor de todas as minhas dores; [pois] sei que não me terás por inocente.
29 I shall be condemned; why then do I labour in vain?
Se eu já estou condenado, então para que eu sofreria em vão?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
Ainda que me lave com água de neve, e limpe minhas mãos com sabão,
31 Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and mine own clothes shall abhor me.
Então me submergirias no fosso, e minhas próprias vestes me abominariam.
32 For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
Pois ele não é homem como eu, para que eu lhe responda, e venhamos juntamente a juízo.
33 There is no daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.
Não há entre nós árbitro que ponha sua mão sobre nós ambos,
34 Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his terror make me afraid:
Tire de sobre mim sua vara, e seu terror não me espante.
35 Then would I speak, and not fear him; for I am not so in myself.
[Então] eu falaria, e não teria medo dele. Pois não está sendo assim comigo.
