Job 5
1 Call now; is there any that will answer thee? and to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?
Clama agora! Haverá alguém que te responda? E a qual dos santos te voltarás?
2 For vexation killeth the foolish man, and jealousy slayeth the silly one.
Pois a ira acaba com o louco, e o zelo mata o tolo.
3 I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.
Eu vi ao louco lançar raízes, porém logo amaldiçoei sua habitação.
4 His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.
Seus filhos estarão longe da salvação; na porta são despedaçados, e não há quem os livre.
5 Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the snare gapeth for their substance.
O faminto devora sua colheita, e a tira até dentre os espinhos; e o assaltante traga sua riqueza.
6 For affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;
Porque a aflição não procede do pó da terra, nem a opressão brota do chão.
7 But man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.
Mas o ser humano nasce para a opressão, assim como as faíscas das brasas se levantam a voar.
8 But as for me, I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:
Porém eu buscaria a Deus, e a ele confiaria minha causa;
9 Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvelous things without number:
[Pois] ele é o que faz coisas grandiosas e incompreensíveis, e inúmeras maravilhas.
10 Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:
Ele é o que dá a chuva sobre a face da terra, e envia águas sobre os campos.
11 So that he setteth up on high those that be low; and those which mourn are exalted to safety.
Ele põe os humildes em lugares altos, para que os sofredores sejam postos em segurança.
12 He frustrateth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.
Ele frustra os planos dos astutos, para que suas mãos nada consigam executar.
13 He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.
Ele prende aos sábios em sua própria astúcia; para que o conselho dos perversos seja derrubado.
14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope at noonday as in the night.
De dia eles se encontram com as trevas, e ao meio-dia andam apalpando como de noite.
15 But he saveth from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty.
Porém livra ao necessitado da espada de suas bocas, e da mão do violento.
16 So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.
Pois ele é esperança para o necessitado, e a injustiça tapa sua boca.
17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.
Eis que bem-aventurado é o homem a quem Deus corrige; portanto não rejeites o castigo do Todo-Poderoso.
18 For he maketh sore, and bindeth up; he woundeth, and his hands make whole.
Pois ele faz a chaga, mas também põe o curativo; ele fere, mas suas mãos curam.
19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles; yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.
Em seis angústias ele te livrará, e em sete o mal não te tocará.
20 In famine he shall redeem thee from death; and in war from the power of the sword.
Na fome ele te livrará da morte, e na guerra [livrará] do poder da espada.
21 Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
Do açoite da língua estarás encoberto; e não temerás a destruição quando ela vier.
22 At destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh; neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.
Tu rirás da destruição e da fome, e não temerás os animais da terra.
23 For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.
Pois até com as pedras do campo terás teu pacto, e os animais do campo serão pacíficos contigo.
24 And thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; and thou shalt visit thy fold, and shalt miss nothing.
E saberás que há paz em tua tenda; e visitarás tua habitação, e não falharás.
25 Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
Também saberás que tua semente se multiplicará, e teus descendentes serão como a erva da terra.
26 Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in its season.
Na velhice virás à sepultura, como o amontoado de trigo que se recolhe a seu tempo.
27 Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.
Eis que é isto o que temos constatado, e assim é; ouve-o, e pensa nisso tu para teu [bem].
