Job 4
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Entonces Elifaz, el temanita, respondió,
2 If one assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?
“Si alguien se aventura a hablar contigo, ¿te apenarás? Pero, ¿quién puede abstenerse de hablar?
3 Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.
He aquí que has instruido a muchos, has fortalecido las manos débiles.
4 Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast confirmed the feeble knees.
Tus palabras han sostenido al que estaba cayendo, has hecho firmes las rodillas débiles.
5 But now it is come unto thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.
Pero ahora ha llegado a ti, y te desmayas. Te toca, y te sientes perturbado.
6 Is not thy fear [of God] thy confidence, [and] thy hope the integrity of thy ways?
¿No es tu piedad tu confianza? ¿No es la integridad de tus caminos tu esperanza?
7 Remember, I pray thee, who [ever] perished, being innocent? or where were the upright cut off?
“¿Recuerdas, ahora, a quien pereció siendo inocente? ¿O dónde se cortó el montante?
8 According as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same.
Según lo que he visto, los que aran la iniquidad y sembrar problemas, cosechar lo mismo.
9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger are they consumed.
Por el soplo de Dios perecen. Por la explosión de su ira son consumidos.
10 The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.
El rugido del león, y la voz del león feroz, los dientes de los jóvenes leones, están rotos.
11 The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered abroad.
El viejo león perece por falta de presa. Los cachorros de la leona están dispersos por el mundo.
12 Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a whisper thereof.
“Ahora bien, una cosa me fue traída en secreto. Mi oído recibió un susurro de ella.
13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,
En los pensamientos de las visiones de la noche, cuando el sueño profundo cae sobre los hombres,
14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.
me invadió el miedo y el temblor, que hizo temblar todos mis huesos.
15 Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
Entonces un espíritu pasó ante mi rostro. El vello de mi carne se erizó.
16 It stood still, but I could not discern the appearance thereof; a form was before mine eyes: [there was] silence, and I heard a voice, [saying],
Se quedó quieto, pero no pude discernir su aspecto. Una forma estaba ante mis ojos. Silencio, luego escuché una voz que decía,
17 Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his Maker?
“¿Será el hombre mortal más justo que Dios? ¿Puede un hombre ser más puro que su Creador?
18 Behold, he putteth no trust in his servants; and his angels he chargeth with folly:
He aquí que no se fía de sus siervos. Acusa a sus ángeles de error.
19 How much more them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth!
Cuánto más los que habitan en casas de barro, cuyos cimientos están en el polvo, ¡que son aplastados ante la polilla!
20 Betwixt morning and evening they are destroyed: they perish for ever without any regarding it.
Entre la mañana y la noche son destruidos. Perecen para siempre sin tener en cuenta nada.
21 Is not their tent-cord plucked up within them? they die, and that without wisdom.
¿No está la cuerda de su tienda arrancada dentro de ellos? Mueren, y eso sin sabiduría”.
