Job 35
1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,
Og Elihu tok til ords og sagde:
2 Thinkest thou this to be [thy] right, [or] sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God’s,
«Seg, trur du vel at slikt er rett, so du meir rettvis er enn Gud,
3 That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? [and], What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?
når djervt du spør: «Kva gagn hev eg, kva løn um eg frå syndi flyr?»
4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
På dette vil eg svara deg og likeins venerne med deg.
5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the skies, which are higher than thou.
Ditt auga du mot himmelen snu, og sjå på skyerne der uppe!
6 If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against him? and if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him.
Di synd, kann ho vel skade honom? Lid han, um dine brot er mange?
7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
Er du rettvis, kva gjev du honom? Kva fær han då utav di hand?
8 Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou art; and thy righteousness [may profit] a son of man.
Di synd vedkjem ein mann som deg, di rettferd gjeld eit menneskje.
9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; they cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.
Dei klagar yver urett stor og skrik um hjelp mot valdsmenns arm;
10 But none saith, Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night;
men spør’kje: «Kvar er Gud, min skapar, som let ved natt lovsongar tona,
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
gjev oss meir vit enn dyr på mark og meir forstand enn fugl i luft?»
12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
Der ropar dei - han svarar ikkje - um hjelp mot ovmod hjå dei vonde.
13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
Gud høyrer ei på tome ord, slikt agtar Allvald ikkje på.
14 How much less when thou sayest thou beholdest him not, the cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!
Um enn du segjer du ei ser han, han ser han nok saki, bi på honom!
15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;
Og no, når vreiden hans ei refser, tru han ei kjenner dårskapen?
16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
Men Job let upp sin munn til fåfengd, uvitugt talar han so mykje.»
