Job 31
1 I MADE a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid?
૧“મેં મારી આંખો સાથે કરાર કર્યો છે; તો હું કેવી રીતે કોઈ કુમારિકા પર વાસનાભરી નજર કરી શકું?”
2 For what [is] the portion of God from above, and the heritage of the Almighty from on high?
૨માટે ઉપરથી ઈશ્વર તરફથી શો હિસ્સો પ્રાપ્ત થાય, ઉચ્ચસ્થાનથી સર્વશક્તિમાન ઈશ્વર પાસેથી વારસો મળે?
3 Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity?
૩હું વિચારતો હતો કે, વિપત્તિ અન્યાયીઓને માટે હોય છે, અને દુષ્ટતા કરનારાઓને માટે વિનાશ હોય છે.
4 Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?
૪શું ઈશ્વર મારું વર્તન જોતા નથી અને મારાં બધાં પગલાં ગણતા નથી?
5 If I have walked with vanity, and my foot hath hasted to deceit;
૫જો મેં કપટભરેલાં આચરણ કર્યાં હોય, અને જો મારા પગે કોઈને છેતરવા માટે ઉતાવળ કરી હોય,
6 (Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity; )
૬તો મને ત્રાજવાનાં માપથી માપવામાં આવે કે જેથી ઈશ્વર જાણે કે હું નિર્દોષ છું.
7 If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any spot hath cleaved to mine hands:
૭જો હું સત્યના માર્ગથી પાછો ફર્યો હોઉં, જો મારું હૃદય મારી આંખોની લાલસા પાછળ ચાલ્યું હોય, અથવા તો જો મારા હાથે કોઈની વસ્તુ આંચકી લીધી હોય,
8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.
૮તો મારું વાવેલું અનાજ અન્ય લોકો ખાય; ખરેખર, ખેતરમાંથી મારી વાવણી ઉખેડી નાખવામાં આવે.
9 If mine heart have been enticed unto a woman, and I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door:
૯જો મારું હૃદય પરસ્ત્રી પર લોભાયું હોય, જો હું મારા પડોશીના દરવાજાએ લાગ જોઈને સંતાઈ રહ્યો હોઉં,
10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
૧૦તો પછી મારી પત્ની અન્ય પુરુષને માટે રસોઈ કરે, અને તે અન્ય પુરુષની થઈ જાય.
11 For that were an heinous crime; yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:
૧૧કારણ કે તે ભયંકર અપરાધ કહેવાય; ખરેખર, તે અપરાધ તો ન્યાયાધીશો દ્વારા અસહ્ય શિક્ષાને પાત્ર છે.
12 For it is a fire that consumeth unto Destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
૧૨તે તો એક અગ્નિ છે જે તમામ વસ્તુઓને સળગાવી નાખે છે. અને મેં જે કંઈ વાવ્યું છે તે સર્વ બાળી શકે છે.
13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me:
૧૩જો મેં મારા દાસ અને દાસીઓના ન્યાય માટેની વિનંતીઓની અવગણના કરી હોય, મારે તેઓની સાથે તકરાર થઈ હોય,
14 What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?
૧૪તો જ્યારે ઈશ્વર મારી સમક્ષ આવીને ઊભા રહેશે ત્યારે હું શું કરીશ? જ્યારે તે મારો ન્યાય કરવા આવશે, તો હું કેવી રીતે જવાબ આપીશ?
15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
૧૫કારણ કે, જે ઈશ્વરે મારું સર્જન કર્યું છે તેમણે જ તેઓનું પણ સર્જન કર્યું નથી? શું તે જ ઈશ્વર સર્વને માતાઓના ગર્ભમાં આકાર આપતા નથી?
16 If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
૧૬જો મેં ગરીબોને તેઓની ઇચ્છા પ્રમાણે આપ્યું ન હોય, અથવા જો મેં વિધવાઓને રડાવી હોય,
17 Or have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;
૧૭અને જો મેં મારું ભોજન એકલાએ જ ખાધું હોય અને અનાથોને જમવાને આપ્યું ન હોય
18 (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have been her guide from my mother’s womb; )
૧૮પરંતુ તેનાથી ઊલટું, મેં મારી તરુણાવસ્થાથી જ તેઓના પિતાની જેમ તેઓની સંભાળ લીધી છે, અને મેં વિધવાઓને પહેલેથી જ માર્ગદર્શન આપ્યું છે.
19 If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering;
૧૯જો મેં કોઈને પહેરણ વિના નાશ પામતા જોયો હોય, અથવા તો ગરીબ માણસને વસ્ત્રો વિનાનો જોયો હોય;
20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
૨૦જો તેણે મારી પ્રશંસા ન કરી હોય, કારણ કે તેને હૂંફાળા રહેવા માટે મારાં ઘેટાંઓનું ઊન મળ્યું નહિ હોય,
21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate:
૨૧જો શહેરના દરવાજાઓમાં બેઠેલાઓને મારા પક્ષના જાણીને અને અનાથો પર મારો હાથ ઉઠાવ્યો હોય,
22 Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
૨૨તો મારો હાથ ખભામાંથી ખરી પડો, અને મારા ખભાને તેના જોડાણમાંથી ભાંગી નાખવામાં આવે.
23 For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I could do nothing.
૨૩પણ ઈશ્વર તરફથી આવતી વિપત્તિ મારા માટે ભયંકર છે; કેમ કે તેમની ભવ્યતાને લીધે, હું આમાંની એકપણ બાબત કરી શકું તેમ નથી.
24 If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;
૨૪જો મેં મારી ધનસંપત્તિ પર આશા રાખી હોય, અને જો મેં કહ્યું હોય કે, શુદ્ધ સોનું, ‘તુ જ મારી એકમાત્ર આશા છે’;
25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;
૨૫મારી સંપત્તિને લીધે જો હું અભિમાની થયો હોઉં, કારણ કે મારા હાથે ઘણી સંપત્તિ પ્રાપ્ત કરી છે;
26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;
૨૬જો મેં પ્રકાશતા સૂર્યને જોયો હોય, અથવા તેજસ્વી ચંદ્રને જોયો હોય,
27 And my heart hath been secretly enticed, and my mouth hath kissed my hand:
૨૭અને જો મારું હૃદય છૂપી રીતે લોભાયું હોય અને તેથી મારા મુખે તેની ઉપાસના કરતા હાથને ચુંબન કર્યું હોય,
28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges: for I should have lied to God that is above.
૨૮તો આ પણ એક અપરાધ છે જે ન્યાયાધીશ મારફતે શિક્ષાને પાત્ર છે, જો મેં ઉચ્ચસ્થાને બિરાજનાર ઈશ્વરનો ઇનકાર કર્યો હોય.
29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;
૨૯જો મેં મને ધિક્કારનારાઓના વિનાશ પર આનંદ કર્યો હોય અથવા જ્યારે નુકસાન થયું હોય ત્યારે મેં પોતાને અભિનંદન પાઠવ્યાં હોય,
30 (Yea, I suffered not my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse; )
૩૦તેથી ઊલટું ખરેખર, તો મેં મારા મુખને મારા દુશ્મનોને શાપ આપવાનું અને તેઓ મરણ પામે તે ઇચ્છવાનું પાપ થવા દીધું નથી.
31 If the men of my tent said not, Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his flesh?
૩૧જો મારો ખોરાક ખાઈને તૃપ્ત થયો ન હોય એવો એક પણ માણસ મળી આવે એવું મારા તંબુના માણસોએ શું કદી કહ્યું છે?’
32 The stranger did not lodge in the street; but I opened my doors to the traveller;
૩૨પરદેશીને શહેરના ચોકમાં રહેવું પડતું નહતું; તેને બદલે, હું મુસાફરને માટે મારા ઘરના દરવાજા હંમેશા ખુલ્લા રાખતો હતો.
33 If like Adam I covered my transgressions, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom;
૩૩જો મેં મારાં પાપો છુપાવીને, માનવજાતની જેમ જો મારાં અપરાધો મારી અંદર સંતાડ્યા હોય
34 Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door—
૩૪અને મોટા જનસમુદાયથી ડરીને, અને કુટુંબના તિરસ્કારથી ડરીને હું મારા ઘરની અંદર છાનોમાનો બેસી રહ્યો હોઉં અને ઘરમાંથી બહાર ગયો ન હોઉં.
35 Oh that I had one to hear me! (lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me; ) and [that I had] the indictment which mine adversary hath written!
૩૫અરે જો કોઈ મારી વાત સાંભળતું હોત તો કેવું સારું! જુઓ, આ મારું ચિહ્ન છે; સર્વશક્તિમાન મને ઉત્તર દો. જો મારા પ્રતિવાદીએ અપરાધનો આરોપ લખ્યો હોત તો કેવું સારું!
36 Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown.
૩૬તો હું સાચે જ તેને મારે ખભે ઊંચકી લેત; હું તેને રાજમુગટની જેમ પહેરત.
37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
૩૭મેં મારાં પગલાં તેની સમક્ષ જાહેર કર્યા હોત; તો હું ભરોસાપાત્ર થઈને મારું માથું ઊચુ રાખીને તેની સમક્ષ હાજર થાત.
38 If my land cry out against me, and the furrows thereof weep together;
૩૮જો કદાપિ મારી જમીન મારી વિરુદ્ધ પોકારે, અને તે જમીનના ચાસ ભેગા થઈને રડતાં હોય,
39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:
૩૯જો મેં તેની ઊપજ પૈસા આપ્યા વિના ખાધી હોય અથવા તેના માલિકોનો જીવ મારાથી ગુમાવ્યો હોય,
40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
૪૦તો મારી જમીનમાં ઘઉંને બદલે કાંટા ઉત્પન્ન થાય અને જવને બદલે ઘાસ ઉત્પન્ન થાય.” અહીંયાં અયૂબના શબ્દો સમાપ્ત થાય છે.
