Job 28
1 Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.
Zagotovo obstaja žila za srebro in prostor za zlato, kjer ju prečiščujejo.
2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
Železo je vzeto iz zemlje in bron je staljen iz kamna.
3 [Man] setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out to the furthest bound the stones of thick darkness and of the shadow of death.
On postavlja konec temi in preiskuje vso popolnost: kamne iz teme in smrtno senco.
4 He breaketh open a shaft away from where men sojourn; they are forgotten of the foot [that passeth by]; they hang afar from men, they swing to and fro.
Poplava izbruhne ven, proč od prebivalca, celo vode, pozabljene od stopala. Posušene so, odtekle so proč od ljudi.
5 As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.
Glede zemlje, iz nje prihaja kruh, in pod njo je obrnjeno, kakor bi bil ogenj.
6 The stones thereof are the place of sapphires, and it hath dust of gold.
Njeni kamni so mesto za safirje in ta ima zlati prah.
7 That path no bird of prey knoweth, neither hath the falcon’s eye seen it:
Je steza, ki je nobena perjad ne pozna in ki je jastrebovo oko ni videlo.
8 The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor hath the fierce lion passed thereby.
Levji mladiči je niso pomendrali niti krut lev ni šel mimo nje.
9 He putteth forth his hand upon the flinty rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots.
Svojo roko izteguje nad skalo, gore prevrača pri koreninah.
10 He cutteth out channels among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing.
Reke vrezuje med skalami in njegovo oko vidi vsako dragoceno stvar.
11 He bindeth the streams that they trickle not; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light.
Poplave zvezuje pred poplavljanjem in stvar, ki je skrita, prinaša na svetlobo.
12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
Toda kje se bo našla modrost? In kje je kraj razumevanja?
13 Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
Človek ne ve za njeno vrednost niti je ni najti v deželi živih.
14 The deep saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me.
Globina pravi: ›V meni je ni.‹ Morje pravi: ›Ta ni z menoj.‹
15 It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
Ni je moč dobiti za zlato niti ne bo srebro odtehtano za njeno vrednost.
16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
Ta ne more biti primerjana z zlatom iz Ofírja, z dragocenim oniksom ali safirjem.
17 Gold and glass cannot equal it: neither shall the exchange thereof be jewels of fine gold.
Zlato in kristal ji ne moreta biti enaka in njena zamenjava ne bo za dragocenosti iz čistega zlata.
18 No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal: yea, the price of wisdom is above rubies.
Nobene omembe ne bo narejene o koralah ali o biserih, kajti cena modrosti je nad rubini.
19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
Topaz iz Etiopije ji ne bo enak niti ne bo ovrednotena s čistim zlatom.
20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
Od kod potem prihaja modrost? In kje je kraj razumnosti?
21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
Videti je, da je skrita pred očmi vseh živih in prikrita pred zračno perjadjo.
22 Destruction and Death say, We have heard a rumour thereof with our ears.
Uničenje in smrt pravita: ›O njeni slavi sva slišala s svojimi ušesi.‹
23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.
Bog razume njeno pot in on pozna njen kraj.
24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;
Kajti gleda do koncev zemlje in vidi pod celotnim nebom,
25 To make a weight for the wind; yea, he meteth out the waters by measure.
ko naredi težo za vetrove in vode odmerja z mero.
26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
Ko je naredil odlok za dež in pot za bliskanje groma,
27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he established it, yea, and searched it out.
potem jo je videl in jo oznanja. Pripravlja jo, da, in razpoznava.
28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
Človeku pa pravi: ›Glej, strah Gospodov, to je modrost; in oditi od zla je razumevanje.‹«
