Job 21
1 Then Job answered and said,
Respondeu porém Job, e disse:
2 Hear diligently my speech; and let this be your consolations.
Ouvi atentamente as minhas razões; e isto vos sirva de consolações.
3 Suffer me, and I also will speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
Sofrei-me, e eu falarei: e, havendo eu falado, zombai.
4 As for me, is my complaint to man? and why should I not be impatient?
Porventura eu me queixo a algum homem? porém, ainda que assim fosse, porque se não angustiaria o meu espírito?
5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
Olhai para mim, e pasmai: e ponde a mão sobre a boca.
6 Even when I remember I am troubled, and horror taketh hold on my flesh.
Porque, quando me lembro disto, me perturbo, e a minha carne é sobresaltada de horror.
7 Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, wax mighty in power?
Por que razão vivem os ímpios? envelhecem, e ainda se esforçam em poder?
8 Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.
A sua semente se estabelece com eles perante a sua face; e os seus renovos perante os seus olhos.
9 Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
As suas casas tem paz, sem temor; e a vara de Deus não está sobre eles.
10 Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
O seu touro gera, e não falha: pare a sua vaca, e não aborta.
11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Mandam fora as suas crianças, como a um rebanho, e seus filhos andam saltando.
12 They sing to the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
Levantam a voz, ao som do tamboril e da harpa, e alegram-se ao som dos órgãos.
Na prosperidade gastam os seus dias, e num momento descem à sepultura. (Sheol h7585)
14 Yet they said unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.
E, todavia, dizem a Deus: Retirate de nós; porque não desejamos ter conhecimento dos teus caminhos.
15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
Quem é o Todo-poderoso, para que nós o sirvamos? e que nos aproveitará que lhe façamos orações?
16 Lo, their prosperity is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
Vede porém que o seu bem não está na mão deles: esteja longe de mim o conselho dos ímpios!
17 How oft is it that the lamp of the wicked is put out? that their calamity cometh upon them? that [God] distributeth sorrows in his anger?
Quantas vezes sucede que se apaga a candeia dos ímpios, e lhes sobrevem a sua destruição? e Deus na sua ira lhes reparte dores!
18 That they are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away?
Porque são como a palha diante do vento, e como a pragana, que arrebata o redemoinho.
19 [Ye say], God layeth up his iniquity for his children. Let him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it.
Deus guarda a sua violência para seus filhos, e lhe dá o pago, que o sente.
20 Let his own eyes see his destruction, and let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Seus olhos veem a sua ruína, e ele bebe do furor do Todo-poderoso.
21 For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
Porque, que prazer teria na sua casa, depois de si, cortando-se-lhe o número dos seus meses?
22 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.
Porventura a Deus se ensinaria ciência, a ele que julga os excelsos?
23 One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet:
Este morre na força da sua plenitude, estando todo quieto e sossegado.
24 His breasts are full of milk, and the marrow of his bones is moistened.
Os seus baldes estão cheios de leite, e os seus ossos estão regados de tutanos.
25 And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and never tasteth of good.
E outro morre, ao contrário, na amargura do seu coração, não havendo comido do bem.
26 They lie down alike in the dust, and the worm covereth them.
Juntamente jazem no pó, e os bichos os cobrem.
27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.
Eis que conheço bem os vossos pensamentos: e os maus intentos com que injustamente me fazeis violência.
28 For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where is the tent wherein the wicked dwelt?
Porque direis: Onde está a casa do príncipe? e onde a tenda das moradas dos ímpios?
29 Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens?
Porventura o não perguntastes aos que passam pelo caminho? e não conheceis os seus sinais?
30 That the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity? that they are led forth to the day of wrath?
Que o mau é preservado para o dia da destruição; e são levados no dia do furor.
31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
Quem acusará diante dele o seu caminho? e quem lhe dará o pago do que faz?
32 Yet shall he be borne to the grave, and shall keep watch over the tomb.
Finalmente é levado às sepulturas, e vigia no montão.
33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and all men shall draw after him, as there were innumerable before him.
Os torrões do vale lhe são doces, e attrahe a si a todo o homem; e diante de si há inumeráveis.
34 How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth only falsehood?
Como pois me consolais com vaidade? pois nas vossas respostas ainda resta a transgressão.
