Jeremiah 24
1 The LORD shewed me, and, behold, two baskets of figs set before the temple of the LORD; after that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.
L’Eternel m’invita à regarder, et voici, deux corbeilles de figues étaient placées devant le sanctuaire de l’Eternel. (C’Était après que Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, eut exilé de Jérusalem et emmené à Babylone leconia, fils de Joaïkim, roi de Juda, les princes judéens ainsi que les forgerons et les serruriers.)
2 One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first ripe: and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.
L’Une des corbeilles contenait des figues de tout point excellentes, telles que des primeurs d’entre les figues; l’autre des figues tout à fait mauvaises, si mauvaises qu’elles n’étaient pas mangeables.
3 Then said the LORD unto me, What seest thou, Jeremiah? And I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, that cannot be eaten, they are so bad.
Et l’Eternel me dit: "Que vois-tu, Jérémie?" Je répondis: "Des figues; les bonnes sont extrêmement bonnes et les mauvaises extrêmement mauvaises, si mauvaises qu’elles ne sont pas mangeables."
4 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
La parole de Dieu me fut adressée en ces termes:
5 Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel; Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.
"Ainsi parle l’Eternel: Comme on fait des figues d’excellente qualité, ainsi je distinguerai avec complaisance les exilés de Juda que j’ai relégués de ce lieu-ci au pays des Chaldéens.
6 For I will set mine eyes upon them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.
Je les regarderai d’un oeil favorable et les ramènerai sur cette terre-ci, je les édifierai et ne les détruirai pas, je les planterai et ne les déracinerai pas,
7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.
et je leur donnerai un coeur pour me connaître, pour savoir que je suis l’Eternel; ils seront mon peuple, je serai, moi, leur Dieu, pourvu qu’ils reviennent à moi de tout leur coeur.
8 And as the bad figs, which cannot be eaten, they are so bad; surely thus saith the LORD, So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, that remain in this land, and them that dwell in the land of Egypt:
Mais pareillement aux figues mauvaises, que leur mauvaise qualité rend immangeablestelle est la parole de l’Eternelje traiterai Sédécias, roi de Juda, avec ses grands et les survivants de Jérusalem qui seront restés dans ce pays ou qui se seront établis en Egypte.
9 I will even give them up to be tossed to and fro among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places whither I shall drive them.
Je ferai d’eux un exemple de terreur et de ruine pour tous les royaumes de la terre, un opprobre, une fable, un objet de dérision et d’exécration dans toutes! es localités où je les aurai rejetés.
10 And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
Je déchaînerai contre eux le glaive, la famine et la peste, jusqu’à leur complète disparition de la terre que je leur avais donnée à eux et à leurs ancêtres."
