Jeremiah 23
1 Woe unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
Malheur aux pasteurs qui perdent et déchirent le troupeau de mon pâturage, dit le Seigneur!
2 Therefore thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, against the shepherds that feed my people: Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them; behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.
C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur, Dieu d’Israël, aux pasteurs qui paissent mon peuple: Vous, vous avez dispersé mon troupeau, et vous l’avez chassé, et vous ne l’avez pas visité: voilà que moi je vous visiterai pour la malice de vos œuvres, dit le Seigneur.
3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and multiply.
Et moi-même je rassemblerai les restes de mon troupeau, de toutes les terres dans lesquelles je les aurai jetés, et je les ferai retourner à leurs champs; et ils croîtront et ils se multiplieront.
4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall any be lacking, saith the LORD.
Et je leur susciterai des pasteurs; et ils les paîtront; ils ne craindront plus et ne seront plus dans l’effroi, et aucune brebis ne manquera au nombre, dit le Seigneur.
5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute judgment and justice in the land.
Voilà que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur; et je susciterai à David un germe juste; un roi régnera, il sera sage, et il rendra le jugement et la justice sur la terre.
6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, The LORD is our righteousness.
En ces jours-là, Juda sera sauvé, et Israël habitera en assurance; et voici le nom dont ils l’appelleront: Le Seigneur notre juste.
7 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that they shall no more say, As the LORD liveth, which brought up the Children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;
À cause de cela, voilà que des jours viennent, dit le Seigneur, où l’on ne dira plus: Le Seigneur vit, qui a tiré les fils d’Israël de la terre d’Egypte!
8 but, As the LORD liveth, which brought up and which led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all the countries whither I had driven them; and they shall dwell in their own land.
Mais: Le Seigneur vit, qui a tiré et a ramené la postérité d’Israël de la terre de l’aquilon, et de toutes les terres où je les avais jetés; et ils habiteront dans leur terre.
9 Concerning the prophets. Mine heart within me is broken, all my bones shake; I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine hath overcome; because of the LORD, and because of his holy words.
Aux prophètes: Mon cœur a été brisé au dedans de moi, tous mes os ont tremblé; je suis devenu comme un homme ivre, comme un homme rempli de vin, à cause du Seigneur, à cause de ses paroles saintes.
10 For the land is full of adulterers; for because of swearing the land mourneth; the pastures of the wilderness are dried up; and their course is evil, and their force is not right.
Parce que la terre a été remplie d’adultère, parce que la terre est en deuil à cause de la malédiction, les champs du désert se sont desséchés; leur carrière est devenue mauvaise, et leur puissance changeante.
11 for both prophet and priest are profane; yea, in my house have I found their wickedness, saith the LORD.
Car le prophète et le prêtre se sont souillés; et dans ma maison j’ai trouvé leur mal, dit le Seigneur.
12 Wherefore their way shall be unto them as slippery places in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall therein: for I will bring evil upon them, even the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.
C’est pour cela que leur voie sera comme un chemin glissant dans les ténèbres; car ils seront poussés et ils y tomberont tous ensemble; car j’amènerai sur eux des maux, l’année de leur visite, dit le Seigneur.
13 And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied by Baal, and caused my people Israel to err.
Et dans les prophètes de Samarie, j’ai vu de la sottise; ils prophétisaient au nom de Baal, et ils trompaient mon peuple Israël.
14 In the prophets of Jerusalem also I have seen an horrible thing; they commit adultery, and walk in lies, and they strengthen the hands of evil-doers, that none doth return from his wickedness: they are all of them become unto me as Sodom, and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah.
Et dans les prophètes de Jérusalem, j’ai vu une image des adultères, et la voie du mensonge; et ils ont fortifié les mains des plus méchants, afin qu’aucun ne se convertît de sa malice; ils sont tous devenus pour moi comme Sodome, et ses habitants comme Gomorrhe.
15 Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them with wormwood, and make them drink the water of gall: for from the prophets of Jerusalem is profaneness gone forth into all the land.
À cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées aux prophètes: Voilà que moi je les nourrirai d’absinthe, et je les abreuverai de fiel; car c’est des prophètes de Jérusalem que la corruption s’est répandue sur toute la terre.
16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you; they teach you vanity: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur des armées: N’écoutez pas les paroles de ces prophètes qui vous prophétisent et vous trompent; ils disent les visions de leur cœur, non recueillies de la bouche du Seigneur.
17 They say continually unto them that despise me, The LORD hath said, Ye shall have peace; and unto every one that walketh in the stubbornness of his own heart they say, No evil shall come upon you.
Ils disent à ceux qui me blasphèment: Le Seigneur a parlé; la paix sera à vous; et à quiconque marche dans la dépravation de son cœur, ils ont dit: Il ne viendra pas sur vous de mal.
18 For who hath stood in the council of the LORD, that he should perceive and hear his word? who hath marked my word, and heard it?
Car qui a assisté au conseil du Seigneur, et a vu, et a entendu ce qu’il a dit? qui a médité sa parole et l’a entendue?
19 Behold, the tempest of the LORD, [even his] fury, is gone forth, yea, a whirling tempest: it shall burst upon the head of the wicked.
Voilà que le tourbillon de l’indignation du Seigneur sortira; et la tempête, éclatant, viendra sur la tête des impies.
20 The anger of the LORD shall not return, until he have executed, and till he have performed the intents of his heart: in the latter days ye shall understand it perfectly.
La fureur du Seigneur ne reviendra pas jusqu’à ce qu’elle exécute, et jusqu’à ce qu’elle accomplisse la pensée de son cœur; dans les derniers jours vous comprendrez son dessein.
21 I sent not these prophets, yet they ran: I spake not unto them, yet they prophesied.
Je n’envoyais pas ces prophètes, et d’eux-mêmes ils couraient; je ne leur parlais pas, et d’eux-mêmes ils prophétisaient.
22 But if they had stood in my council, then had they caused my people to hear my words, and had turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.
S’ils avaient assisté à mon conseil, et qu’ils eussent fait connaître mes paroles à mon peuple, je les aurais détournés de leur voie mauvaise, et de leurs pensées très mauvaises.
23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off?
Penses-tu que moi je sois Dieu de près, dit le Seigneur, et non Dieu de loin?
24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.
Un homme se cachera dans les ténèbres, et moi ne le verrai-je pas, dit le Seigneur? n’est-ce pas moi qui remplis le ciel et la terre, dit le Seigneur?
25 I have heard what the prophets have said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed.
J’ai entendu ce qu’ont dit les prophètes, prophétisant en mon nom un mensonge, et disant: J’ai eu un songe, j’ai eu un songe.
26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies; even the prophets of the deceit of their own heart?
Jusques à quand cela sera-t-il dans le cœur de ces prophètes qui prédisent le mensonge, et qui prophétisent les séductions de leur cœur?
27 which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers forgat my name for Baal.
Ceux qui veulent faire que mon peuple oublie mon nom à cause de leurs songes, que chacun d’eux raconte à son prochain comme leurs pères ont oublié mon nom à cause de Baal.
28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the straw to the wheat? saith the LORD.
Que le prophète qui a un songe le raconte, et que celui qui a ma parole publie ma parole fidèlement; car quel rapport a la paille avec le froment? dit le Seigneur,
29 Is not my word like as fire? saith the LORD; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?
Ma parole n’est-elle pas comme le feu, dit le Seigneur, et comme un marteau qui brise une pierre?
30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.
À cause de cela, voilà que moi, dit le Seigneur, je viens aux prophètes qui dérobent ma parole, chacun à son prochain.
31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.
Voilà que moi, dit le Seigneur, j’en viens aux prophètes qui font usage de leurs langues et disent: Le Seigneur dit.
32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy lying dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their vain boasting: yet I sent them not, nor commanded them; neither shall they profit this people at all, saith the LORD.
Voilà que moi, je viens aux prophètes qui ont rêvé des mensonges, dit le Seigneur, qui les ont racontés et ont séduit mon peuple par leurs mensonges et par leurs miracles, quoique moi je ne les eusse pas envoyés et que je ne leur eusse pas donné d’ordre, à eux qui n’ont servi de rien à ce peuple, dit le Seigneur.
33 And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? then shalt thou say unto them, What burden! I will cast you off, saith the LORD.
Si donc ce peuple, ou un prophète, ou un prêtre t’interroge, disant: Quel est le fardeau du Seigneur? Tu leur diras: C’est vous qui êtes ce fardeau; car je vous rejetterai, dit le Seigneur.
34 And as for the prophet, and the priest, and the people, that shall say, The burden of the LORD, I will even punish that man and his house.
Quant au prophète, et au prêtre, et à ce peuple qui dit: Fardeau du Seigneur, je visiterai cet homme et sa maison.
35 Thus shall ye say every one to his neighbour, and every one to his brother, What hath the LORD answered? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Voici ce que vous direz chacun à votre prochain et à votre frère: Qu’a répondu le Seigneur? et qu’a dit le Seigneur?
36 And the burden of the LORD shall ye mention no more: for every man’s own word shall be his burden; for ye have perverted the words of the living God, of the LORD of hosts our God.
Et le fardeau du Seigneur ne sera plus rappelé; car le fardeau de chacun sera sa propre parole; parce que vous avez perverti les paroles du Dieu vivant, du Seigneur des armées, de notre Dieu.
37 Thus shalt thou say to the prophet, What hath the LORD answered thee? and, What hath the LORD spoken?
Voici ce que tu diras au prophète: Que t’a répondu le Seigneur? et qu’a dit le Seigneur?
38 But if ye say, The burden of the LORD; therefore thus saith the LORD: Because ye say this word, The burden of the LORD, and I have sent unto you, saying, Ye shall not say, The burden of the LORD;
Or si vous dites: Fardeau du Seigneur, à cause de cela, voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Parce que vous avez dit cette parole: Fardeau du Seigneur, et que j’ai envoyé vers vous disant: Ne dites pas: Fardeau du Seigneur.
39 therefore, behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, and the city that I gave unto you and to your fathers, away from my presence:
À cause de cela, voilà que moi-même je vous enlèverai, vous emportant comme un fardeau, et je vous abandonnerai loin de ma face, vous, et la cité que je vous ai donnée, à vous et à vos pères.
40 and I will bring an everlasting reproach upon you, and a perpetual shame which shall not be forgotten.
Et je vous livrerai à un opprobre qui durera toujours, et à une ignominie éternelle qui jamais ne sera effacée par l’oubli.
