Jeremiah 19
1 Thus said the LORD, Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and [take] of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;
| כה אמר יהוה הלוך וקנית בקבק יוצר חרש ומזקני העם ומזקני הכהנים׃ |
2 and go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee:
| ויצאת אל גיא בן הנם אשר פתח שער החרסות וקראת שם את הדברים אשר אדבר אליך׃ |
3 and say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.
| ואמרת שמעו דבר יהוה מלכי יהודה וישבי ירושלם כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני מביא רעה על המקום הזה אשר כל שמעה תצלנה אזניו׃ |
4 Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom they knew not, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
| יען אשר עזבני וינכרו את המקום הזה ויקטרו בו לאלהים אחרים אשר לא ידעום המה ואבותיהם ומלכי יהודה ומלאו את המקום הזה דם נקים׃ |
5 and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings unto Baal; which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
| ובנו את במות הבעל לשרף את בניהם באש עלות לבעל אשר לא צויתי ולא דברתי ולא עלתה על לבי׃ |
6 therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.
| לכן הנה ימים באים נאם יהוה ולא יקרא למקום הזה עוד התפת וגיא בן הנם כי אם גיא ההרגה׃ |
7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of them that seek their life: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
| ובקתי את עצת יהודה וירושלם במקום הזה והפלתים בחרב לפני איביהם וביד מבקשי נפשם ונתתי את נבלתם למאכל לעוף השמים ולבהמת הארץ׃ |
8 And I will make this city an astonishment, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.
| ושמתי את העיר הזאת לשמה ולשרקה כל עבר עליה ישם וישרק על כל מכתה׃ |
9 And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall straiten them.
| והאכלתים את בשר בניהם ואת בשר בנתיהם ואיש בשר רעהו יאכלו במצור ובמצוק אשר יציקו להם איביהם ומבקשי נפשם׃ |
10 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,
| ושברת הבקבק לעיני האנשים ההלכים אותך׃ |
11 and shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury in Topheth, till there be no place to bury.
| ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה צבאות ככה אשבר את העם הזה ואת העיר הזאת כאשר ישבר את כלי היוצר אשר לא יוכל להרפה עוד ובתפת יקברו מאין מקום לקבור׃ |
12 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, even making this city as Topheth:
| כן אעשה למקום הזה נאם יהוה וליושביו ולתת את העיר הזאת כתפת׃ |
13 and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.
| והיו בתי ירושלם ובתי מלכי יהודה כמקום התפת הטמאים לכל הבתים אשר קטרו על גגתיהם לכל צבא השמים והסך נסכים לאלהים אחרים׃ |
14 Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’S house, and said to all the people:
| ויבא ירמיהו מהתפת אשר שלחו יהוה שם להנבא ויעמד בחצר בית יהוה ויאמר אל כל העם׃ |
15 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they might not hear my words.
| כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני מבי אל העיר הזאת ועל כל עריה את כל הרעה אשר דברתי עליה כי הקשו את ערפם לבלתי שמוע את דברי׃ |
