Jeremiah 12
1 Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?
Tu es trop équitable, ô Eternel, pour que je récrimine contre toi. Cependant je voudrais te parler justice: Pourquoi la voie des méchants est-elle prospère? Pourquoi vivent-ils en sécurité, tous ces auteurs de perfidies?
2 Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root; they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.
Tu les plantes, et ils prennent racine; ils croissent et portent des fruits. Tu es près de leur bouche et loin' de leur coeur.
3 But thou, O LORD, knowest me; thou seest me, and triest mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.
Mais moi, ô Eternel, tu me connais, tu m’observes, tu as éprouvé mon coeur qui t’est fidèle. Entraîne-les comme des brebis destinées à la boucherie, réserve-les pour le jour de l’égorgement!
4 How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.
Jusqu’à quand la terre sera-t-elle en deuil et l’herbe dé tous les champs desséchée? C’Est le crime de ses habitants qui a fait périr bêtes et oiseaux, car ils disaient: "Il ne peut prévoir notre avenir!"
5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and though in a land of peace thou art secure, yet how wilt thou do in the pride of Jordan?
Si, luttant de vitesse avec des piétons, ils arrivent à te fatiguer, comment rivaliserais-tu avec des coursiers? Si tu te sens en sûreté sur un sol paisible, que feras-tu dans les massifs du Jourdain?
6 For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; even they have cried aloud after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.
Car tes frères mêmes et la maison de ton père, oui, ceux-là mêmes te trahissent, ceux-là mêmes crient à plein gosier après toi; ne te fie pas à eux, quand ils t’adresseront de bonnes paroles.
7 I have forsaken mine house, I have cast off mine heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.
J’Ai abandonné ma maison, délaissé mon domaine, et ce que mon âme a de plus cher, je l’ai livré au pouvoir de ses ennemis.
8 Mine heritage is become unto me as a lion in the forest: she hath uttered her voice against me; therefore I have hated her.
La nation qui constituait mon héritage est devenue à mon égard comme un lion dans la forêt; elle a donné de la voix contre moi, c’est pourquoi je l’ai prise en haine.
9 Is mine heritage unto me as a speckled bird of prey? are the birds of prey against her round about? go ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, bring them to devour.
La nation qui constituait mon héritage est devenue à mon égard comme un vautour aux serres puissantes; c’est pourquoi les vau—tours font cercle autour d’elle: "Allez, rassemblez toutes les bêtes des champs! Amenez-les pour se repaître!"
10 Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
De nombreux pâtres ont ravagé ma vigne, piétiné mon champ, fait du domaine qui formait mes délices un désert sauvage.
11 They have made it a desolation; it mourneth unto me, being desolate; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.
On l’a changé en ruine; il est en deuil sous mes yeux, complètement dévasté. Tout le pays est dévasté, car il n’est personne qui prenne ces choses à coeur.
12 Spoilers are come upon all the bare heights in the wilderness: for the sword of the LORD devoureth from the one end of the land even to the other end of the land: no flesh hath peace.
Sur toutes les hauteurs dénudées dans le désert se sont précipités les envahisseurs, car l’Eternel brandit une épée qui dévore le pays d’une extrémité à l’autre: il n’est de salut pour aucune créature.
13 They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and ye shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of the LORD.
Ils ont semé du blé, et ce sont des épines qu’ils moissonnent; ils s’épuisent sans aucun profit. Rougissez donc des moissons que vous obtenez à cause de l’ardente colère de l’Eternel.
14 Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit: Behold, I will pluck them up from off their land, and will pluck up the house of Judah from among them.
Ainsi parle l’Eternel: "Quant à tous mes mauvais voisins qui attentent à l’héritage que j’ai donné en possession à mon peuple, à Israël, voici, je vais les déraciner de leur pays, puis j’arracherai du milieu d’eux la maison de Juda.
15 And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them up, I will return and have compassion on them; and I will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.
Mais après les avoir ainsi déracinés, je me reprendrai à avoir pitié d’eux, et je les réintégrerai chacun dans son domaine, chacun dans son pays.
16 and it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, As the LORD liveth; even as they taught my people to swear by Baal; then shall they be built up in the midst of my people.
Que si alors ils ont soin d’adopter les habitudes de mon peuple, jurant par mon nom: "Vive l’Eternel!" tout comme ils avaient accoutumé mon peuple à jurer par Baal, ils seront établis solidement au milieu de mon peuple.
17 But if they will not hear, then will I pluck up that nation, plucking up and destroying it, saith the LORD.
Mais s’ils refusent d’obéir, je les déracinerai, ces peuples, je les déracinerai et les ferai périr, dit l’Eternel."
