Isaiah 53
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the LORD been revealed?
Qui a cru à ce qu’il a entendu de nous? et à qui le bras du Seigneur a-t-il été révélé?
2 For he grew up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Et il montera comme une branche menue devant lui, et comme un rejeton d’une terre altérée; il n’a ni éclat ni beauté; et nous l’avons vu, et il n’avait pas un aspect agréable, et nous l’avons désiré;
3 He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Méprisé, et le dernier des hommes, homme de douleur, et connaissant l’infirmité; son visage était comme caché, et méprisé, et nous l’avons compté pour rien.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Il a vraiment lui-même pris nos langueurs sur lui, et il a lui-même porté nos douleurs; et nous l’avons considéré comme un lépreux, frappé de Dieu et humilié.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Mais lui-même il a été blessé à cause de nos iniquités, il a été brisé à cause de nos crimes; le châtiment, prix de notre paix, est tombé sur lui; et par ses meurtrissures nous avons été guéris.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Nous tous, comme des brebis, nous avons erré; chacun s’est détourné vers sa voie; et le Seigneur a mis sur lui l’iniquité de nous tous.
7 He was oppressed, yet he humbled himself and opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before her shearers is dumb; yea, he opened not his mouth.
Il a été offert parce que lui-même l’a voulu, et il n’a pas ouvert sa bouche; comme une brebis, il sera conduit à la tuerie, et comme un agneau devant celui qui le tond, il sera muet, et il n’ouvrira pas sa bouche.
8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who [among them] considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living? for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
À la suite des angoisses et d’un jugement il a été enlevé; qui racontera sa génération? car il a été retranché de la terre des vivants; à cause du crime de mon peuple, je l’ai frappé.
9 And they made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; although he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his month.
Et il donnera des impies pour sa sépulture, et un riche pour sa mort, parce qu’il n’a pas commis d’iniquité, et que la tromperie n’a pas été dans sa bouche.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see [his] seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
Mais le Seigneur a voulu le briser dans son infirmité; s’il donne, pour le péché, son âme, il verra une race de longue durée, et la volonté du Seigneur, par sa main, sera dirigée.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, [and] shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many: and he shall bear their iniquities.
De ce que son âme a souffert, il verra le fruit, et il sera rassasié; par sa science mon serviteur justifiera lui-même un grand nombre d’hommes, et leurs iniquités, lui-même les portera.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he poured out his soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors: yet he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
C’est pour cela que je lui départirai un très grand nombre d’hommes, et il distribuera les dépouilles des forts, parce qu’il a livré à la mort son âme, et qu’il a été compté parmi les scélérats; parce qu’il a porté les péchés d’un grand nombre, et qu’il a prié pour les transgresseurs.
