< Haggai 2 >

1 In the seventh [month], in the one and twentieth [day] of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
‌ʻI hono fitu ʻoe māhina, ʻi he ʻaho ʻe uofulu ma taha ʻoe māhina, naʻe hoko ai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ki he palōfita ko Hakeai, ʻo pehē,
2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,
“Ke ke lea ni kia Selupepeli ko e foha ʻo Sialiteli, ko e pule ʻo Siuta, pea kia Siosiua ko e foha ʻo Sosataki, ko e taulaʻeiki lahi, pea ki he toenga ʻoe kakai, ʻo pehē,
3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes as nothing?
‘Ko hai ʻoku toe ʻiate kimoutolu, ʻaia naʻe mamata ki he fale ni, ʻi hono ʻuluaki nāunau? Pea ʻoku fēfē ʻa hoʻomou mamata ki ai ni? ʻIkai ʻoku hangē ko e meʻa noa pe ia ʻi homou mata ʻi he fakatatau ki ai?
4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts,
Ka ke mālohi ni, ʻE Selupepeli,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; ‘pea ke mālohi, ʻE Siosiua, ko e foha ʻo Sosataki, ko e taulaʻeiki lahi; pea ke mou mālohi, ʻae kakai kotoa pē ʻoe fonua, pea ngāue,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; ‘He ʻoku ou ʻiate kimoutolu,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau;
5 [according to] the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, and my spirit abode among you: fear ye not.
6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
He ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau; ‘Ka ko e toe taha, ʻoku toetoe siʻi, pea te u lulululu ʻae ngaahi langi, mo māmani, mo e tahi, mo e fonua mōmoa;
7 and I will shake all nations, and the desirable things of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
Pea te u luluʻi ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē, pea ʻe hāʻele mai ʻae Holi ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga kotoa pē: pea te u fakafonu ʻae fale ni ʻi he nāunau,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
‌ʻOku ʻaʻaku ʻae siliva, ʻoku ʻaʻaku mo e koula, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.
9 The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.
‘ʻE lahi hake ʻae nāunau ʻoe fale kimui ni ʻi he ʻuluaki fale,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau: ‘pea te u foaki ʻae melino ki he potu ni,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.”
10 In the four and twentieth [day] of the ninth [month], in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
“ʻI hono uofulu ma fā ʻoe ʻaho ʻi hono hiva ʻoe māhina, ʻi hono ua ʻoe taʻu ʻo Talaiasi, naʻe hoko ai ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova ia Hakeai ko e palōfita, ʻo pehē,
11 Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,
“ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, Fehuʻi ni ki he kau taulaʻeiki ʻi he fono, ʻo pehē,
12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it become holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
‘Kapau ʻoku ʻave ʻe ha taha ha konga feilaulau māʻoniʻoni ʻi hono kapaʻi kofu, pea ʻoku ala ʻa hono kapa ki he mā, pe ki he peke, pe ki he uaine, pe ki he lolo, pe ki ha meʻakai, ʻe māʻoniʻoni ia?’” Pea naʻe tali ʻe he kau taulaʻeiki, ʻo pehē, “ʻIkai.”
13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
Pea naʻe toki pehē ʻe Hakeai, “Ka ala ʻe ha taha ʻoku taʻemaʻa ʻi ha pekia, ki ha taha ʻi he ngaahi meʻa ni, ʻe taʻemaʻa ia?” Pea naʻe tali ʻe he kau taulaʻeiki, ʻo pehē, “ʻE taʻemaʻa ia.”
14 Then answered Haggai and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
Pea naʻe toki lea ʻa Hakeai, ʻo pehē, “‘ʻOku pehē ʻae kakai ni, pea ʻoku pehē mo e puleʻanga ni ʻi hoku ʻao, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova; pea ʻoku pehē ʻae ngaahi ngāue kotoa pē ʻa honau nima, pea ʻoku taʻemaʻa mo ia ʻaia ʻoku nau feilaulau ʻaki ʻi hena.
15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:
Pea ko eni, ʻOku ou kole ke mou fakakaukau mei he ʻaho ni ʻo fai atu, ʻi he teʻeki ke fokotuʻu ha maka ki ha maka ʻi he falelotu lahi ʻo Sihova:
16 Through all that time, when one came to an heap of twenty [measures], there were but ten; when one came to the winefat for to draw out fifty vessels, there were but twenty.
Talu ʻa e [ngaahi ʻaho ]ko ia, ʻi he ʻalu ha taha ki ha fokotuʻunga ʻoe [puha fua ]ʻe uofulu, naʻe ai ʻae hongofulu pe: ʻi he ʻalu ha taha ki he tataʻoʻanga ke ne fakatafe mei he tataʻoʻanga ki he [ngaahi ipu ]ʻe nimangofulu, naʻe ai ʻae uofulu pe.
17 I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the work of your hands; yet ye [turned] not to me, saith the LORD.
Naʻaku taaʻi ʻaki ʻakimoutolu ʻae fakamae, pea mo e tuʻungafulufulua, pea mo e ʻuha maka ʻi he ngaahi ngāue kotoa pē ʻa homou nima; ka naʻe ʻikai te mou tafoki kiate au,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova.
18 Consider, I pray you, from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth [month], since the day that the foundation of the LORD’S temple was laid, consider it.
‘Fakakaukau ni mei he ʻaho ni ʻo fai atu, mei hono uofulu ma fā ʻoe ʻaho ʻi hono hiva ʻoe māhina, ʻio, mei he ʻaho naʻe ai ʻae tuʻunga ʻoe falelotu lahi ʻo Sihova, fakakaukau ki ai.
19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree hath not brought forth; from this day will I bless [you].
‌ʻOku kei ʻi he feleoko ʻae tenga? ʻIo, ʻoku teʻeki ai ke tupu ʻae fua ʻoe vaine mo e ʻakau ko e fiki, mo e pomikanite, mo e ʻakau ko e ʻolive: te u tāpuakiʻi ʻakimoutolu mei he ʻaho ni.’”
20 And the word of the LORD came the second time unto Haggai in the four and twentieth [day] of the month, saying,
Pea naʻe toe hoko ʻae folofola ʻa Sihova kia Hakeai, ʻi he ʻaho ʻe uofulu ma fā ʻoe māhina, ʻo pehē,
21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth:
“Fakahā kia Selupepeli, ko e pule ʻo Siuta,” ʻo pehē, ‘Te u luluʻi ʻae ngaahi langi mo māmani;
22 and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
Pea te u fulihi ʻae nofoʻa fakaʻeiʻeiki ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga; pea te u maumauʻi ʻae mālohi ʻae ngaahi puleʻanga hiteni; pea te u fulihi ʻae ngaahi meʻa teka, mo kinautolu ʻoku heka ai; pea ʻe hinga ki lalo ʻae fanga hoosi mo honau kau tangata heka, taki taha ʻi he heletā ʻa hono tokoua.
23 In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.
‌ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ʻI he ʻaho ko ia, te u ʻave koe, ʻE Selupepeli, ko ʻeku tamaioʻeiki, ko e foha ʻo Sialiteli,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ‘pea te u ngaohi koe ke hangē ko e fakaʻilonga: he kuo u fili koe,’ ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau.”
