Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Au commencement Dieu créa le ciel et la terre.
2 And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
Mais la terre était informe et nue, et des ténèbres étaient sur la face d’un abîme, et l’Esprit de Dieu était porté sur les eaux.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Or Dieu dit: Que la lumière soit. Et la lumière fut.
4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
Et Dieu vit que la lumière était bonne, et il sépara la lumière des ténèbres.
5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
Et il appela la lumière, Jour, et les ténèbres, Nuit: et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit un jour unique.
6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
Dieu dit encore: Qu’un firmament soit fait entre les eaux, et qu’il sépare les eaux d’avec les eaux.
7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.
Et Dieu fit le firmament, et il sépara les eaux qui étaient sous le firmament de celles qui étaient sur le firmament. Et il fut fait ainsi.
8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
Or Dieu nomma le firmament, Ciel; et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit un second jour.
9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
Dieu dit ensuite: Que les eaux qui sont sous le ciel se rassemblent en un seul lieu, et que la partie aride paraisse.
10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
Or Dieu nomma la partie aride. Terre, et les amas d’eaux, il les appela Mers. Et Dieu vit que cela était bon.
11 And God said, Let the earth put forth grass, herb yielding seed, [and] fruit tree bearing fruit after its kind, wherein is the seed thereof, upon the earth: and it was so.
Et il dit: Que la terre produise de l’herbe verdoyante, et faisant de la semence, et des arbres fruitiers, faisant du fruit selon leur espèce, dont la semence soit en eux-mêmes sur la terre. Et il fut fait ainsi.
12 And the earth brought forth grass, herb yielding seed after its kind, and tree bearing fruit, wherein is the seed thereof, after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
Et la terre produisit de l’herbe verdoyante, et faisant de la semence selon son espèce, et des arbres faisant du fruit, et ayant chacun de la semence selon son espèce. Et Dieu vit que cela était bon.
13 And there was evening and there was morning, a third day.
Et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit un troisième jour.
14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years:
Dieu dit aussi: Qu’il soit fait des luminaires dans le firmament du ciel, et qu’ils séparent le jour et la nuit, et qu’ils servent de signes pour marquer et les temps et les jours et les années,
15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
Qu’ils luisent dans le firmament du ciel, et qu’ils éclairent la terre. Et il fut fait ainsi.
16 And God made the two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: [he made] the stars also.
Dieu fit donc deux grands luminaires; l’un plus grand, pour présider au jour; l’autre moins grand, pour présider à la nuit; et les étoiles.
17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
Et il les plaça dans le firmament du ciel pour luire sur la terre,
18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
Pour présider au jour et à la nuit, et pour séparer la lumière et les ténèbres. Et Dieu vit que cela était bon.
19 And there was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
Et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit un quatrième jour.
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and let fowl fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
Dieu dit encore: Que les eaux produisent des reptiles d’une âme vivante, et des volatiles sur la terre, sous le firmament du ciel.
21 And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kinds, and every winged fowl after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
Dieu créa donc les grands poissons, et toute âme vivante et ayant le mouvement, que les eaux produisirent selon leurs espèces, et tout volatile selon son espèce. Et Dieu vit que cela était bon.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
Il les bénit, disant: Croissez et multipliez-vous, et remplissez les eaux de la mer: et que les oiseaux se multiplient sur la terre.
23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
Et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit un cinquième jour.
24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind: and it was so.
Dieu dit aussi: Que la terre produise des âmes vivantes selon leur espèce, des animaux domestiques, des reptiles et des bêtes de la terre selon leurs espèces. Et il fut fait ainsi.
25 And God made the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the ground after its kind: and God saw that it was good.
Dieu fit donc les bêtes de la terre selon leurs espèces, les animaux domestiques et tous les reptiles de la terre selon leur espèce. Et Dieu vit que cela était bon.
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Il dit ensuite: Faisons un homme à notre image et à notre ressemblance: et qu’il domine sur les poissons de la mer, sur les volatiles du ciel, et sur les bêtes, et sur toute la terre et sur tous les reptiles qui se meuvent sur la terre.
27 And God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Et Dieu créa l’homme à son image: c’est à l’image de Dieu qu’il le créa: il les créa mâle et femelle.
28 And God blessed them: and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Et Dieu les bénit et leur dit: Croissez et multipliez-vous; remplissez la terre et assujettissez-la, et dominez sur les poissons de la mer, sur les volatiles du ciel et sur tous les animaux qui se meuvent sur la terre.
29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat:
Dieu dit encore: Voici que je vous donne toute herbe portant de la semence sur la terre, et toutes les plantes ayant en elles-mêmes la semence de leur espèce, pour être votre nourriture;
30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, [I have given] every green herb for meat: and it was so.
Et à tous les animaux de la terre, à tous les oiseaux du ciel, et à tout ce qui se meut sur la terre et en qui est une âme vivante, pour qu’ils aient à manger. Et il fut fait ainsi.
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Et Dieu vit toutes les choses qu’il avait faites, et elles étaient très bonnes. Et d’un soir et d’un matin se fit le sixième jour.
