Genesis 50

1 And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

Da warf sich Joseph auf seinen Vater, weinte über ihm und küßt ihn.

2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

Dann befahl Joseph seinen Dienern, den Ärzten, seinen Vater einzubalsamieren. Da balsamierten die Ärzte Israel ein.

3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of embalming: and the Egyptians wept for him threescore and ten days.

Darüber vergingen vierzig Tage; denn soviel Tage vergehen mit Einbalsamieren. Man beweinte ihn in Ägypten siebzig Tage lang.

4 And when the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

Als aber die Tage seiner Beweinung vorüber waren, sprach Joseph zu Pharaos Haus also: "Habe ich in euren Augen Gnade gefunden, dann legt für mich ein Wort bei Pharao ein!

5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

Mein Vater hat mich schwören lassen; er sprach: 'Siehe! Wenn ich tot bin, sollst du mich in meinem Grabe beisetzen, das ich mir im Lande Kanaan gegraben, dort sollst du mich begraben.' Nun möchte ich hinaufziehen und meinen Vater dort bestatten und wiederkehren."

6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

Da sprach Pharao: "So zieh hinauf! Bestatte deinen Vater, wie er dich hat schwören lassen!"

7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

So zog Joseph zur Bestattung seines Vaters hinauf; mit ihm zogen alle Diener Pharaos, die Ältesten seines Hauses und die Ältesten des Landes Ägypten,

8 and all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

sowie das ganze Haus Josephs, seine Brüder und das Haus seines Vaters. Nur ihre Kinder, ihre Schafe und Rinder hatten sie im Lande Gosen gelassen.

9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

Mit ihm zogen Wagen und Reiter hinauf, ein ganz gewaltiger Zug.

10 And they came to the threshing-floor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

So kamen sie nach Goren Haatad jenseits des Jordan und hielten dort sehr große und feierliche Totenklage Und er hielt für seinen Vater eine siebentägige Totenfeier ab.

11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

Die Bewohner des Landes aber, die Kanaaniter, sahen die Totenfeier zu Goren Haatad und sprachen: "Da findet eine große Totenfeier der Ägypter statt." Deshalb nannte man seinen Namen Abel Misraim; es liegt jenseits des Jordan.

12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

Und seine Söhne taten ihm, wie er ihnen geboten hatte.

13 for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field, for a possession of a buryingplace, of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

Seine Söhne führten ihn in das Land Kanaan und bestatteten ihn in der Höhle des Feldes der Makpela, des Feldes, das Abraham zum Erbbegräbnis von dem Chittiter Ephron gegenüber Mamre erworben.

14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

Dann kehrte Joseph nach Ägypten zurück, er und seine Brüder sowie alle, die mit ihm zur Bestattung seines Vaters hinaufgezogen waren, nachdem er seinen Vater bestattet hatte.

15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will fully requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

Als Josephs Brüder sahen, daß ihr Vater gestorben war sprachen sie: "Wenn Joseph uns befeindete und uns all das Böse, das wir ihm angetan, vergälte?"

16 And they sent a message unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

Da sandten sie zu Joseph und ließen sagen: "Dein Vater hat vor seinem Tode folgendes verordnet:

17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the transgression of thy brethren, and their sin, for that they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the transgression of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

'Sprecht so zu Joseph: Vergib doch die Missetat deiner Brüder und ihre Sünde, daß sie dir Böses getan!' Und nun verzeihe doch die Sünde der Verehrer des Gottes deines Vaters!" Da weinte Joseph, als sie so zu ihm sprachen.

18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

Nun gingen auch seine Brüder hin, fielen vor ihm nieder und sprachen: "Hier sind wir, deine Leibeigenen."

19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

Da sprach Joseph zu ihnen: "Fürchtet euch nicht! Bin ich an Gottes Statt?

20 And as for you, ye meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Ihr freilich habt Böses wider mich ersonnen; Gott aber hat es zum Guten gelenkt, um bis auf heute vorzusorgen, ein großes Volk am Leben zu erhalten.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Nun fürchtet euch nicht. Ich sorge für euch und eure Kinder." So tröstete er sie und sprach ihnen Mut zu.

22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

Joseph blieb in Ägypten, er und seines Vaters Haus. Und Joseph lebte 110 Jahre.

23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were born upon Joseph’s knees.

Joseph sah von Ephraim Urenkel; auch die Söhne Makirs, des Manassesohnes, waren auf Josephs Knien geboren worden.

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

Joseph sprach zu seinen Brüdern: "Ich sterbe; Gott aber sorgt für euch; dann führt er euch aus diesem Lande in das Land, das er Abraham, Isaak und Jakob zugeschworen hat."

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

Und Joseph ließ die Söhne Israels schwören und sprach: "Gott nimmt sich eurer an. Dann müßt ihr mein Gebein von hier hinaufbringen."

26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

So starb Joseph, 110 Jahre alt. Man balsamierte ihn ein und legte ihn in Ägypten in den Schrein.
