Genesis 38

1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

൧അക്കാലത്ത് യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാരെ വിട്ട് ഹീരാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു അദുല്ലാമ്യന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു;

2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite whose name was Shua; and he took her, and went in unto her.

൨അവിടെ ശൂവാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു കനാന്യന്റെ മകളെ കണ്ടു; അവളെ വിവാഹംചെയ്തു.

3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

൩അവൾ ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; യെഹൂദാ അവന് ഏർ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

൪അവൾ പിന്നെയും ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവൾ അവന് ഓനാൻ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

5 And she yet again bare a son, and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

൫അവൾ പിന്നെയും ഗർഭംധരിച്ച് ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; അവന് ശേലാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. അവൾ ഇവനെ പ്രസവിച്ചപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാ കെസീബിൽ ആയിരുന്നു.

6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.

൬യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ ആദ്യജാതനായ ഏരിനു താമാർ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു ഭാര്യയെ എടുത്തു.

7 And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

൭യെഹൂദായുടെ ആദ്യജാതനായ ഏർ യഹോവയ്ക്ക് അപ്രിയനായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് യഹോവ അവനെ മരണത്തിനിരയാക്കി.

8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

൮അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാ ഓനാനോട്: “നിന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്ന് അവളോടു ദേവരധർമ്മം അനുഷ്ഠിച്ച്, ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ പേർക്ക് സന്തതിയെ ജനിപ്പിക്കുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest he should give seed to his brother.

൯എന്നാൽ ആ സന്തതി തന്റേതായിരിക്കുകയില്ല എന്ന് ഓനാൻ അറിയുകകൊണ്ട് ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ ഭാര്യയുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നപ്പോൾ ജ്യേഷ്ഠനു സന്തതിയെ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന് ബീജം നിലത്തു വീഴ്ത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

10 And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of the LORD: and he slew him also.

൧൦അവൻ ചെയ്തതു യഹോവയ്ക്ക് അനിഷ്ടമായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് യഹോവ ഇവനെയും മരണത്തിനിരയാക്കി.

11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow in thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown up: for he said, Lest he also die, like his brethren. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.

൧൧അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ മരുമകളായ താമാറിനോട്: “എന്റെ മകൻ ശേലാ പ്രായപൂർത്തിയാകുവോളം നീ അപ്പന്റെ വീട്ടിൽപോയി വിധവയായി വസിക്കുക” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ഇവനും സഹോദരന്മാരെപ്പോലെ മരിച്ചുപോകരുത് എന്ന് അവൻ വിചാരിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ താമാർ അപ്പന്റെ വീട്ടിൽപോയി പാർത്തു.

12 And in process of time Shua’s daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

൧൨കുറെ കാലം കഴിഞ്ഞ് ശൂവയുടെ മകൾ യെഹൂദായുടെ ഭാര്യ മരിച്ചു; യെഹൂദായുടെ ദുഃഖം മാറിയശേഷം അവൻ തന്റെ സ്നേഹിതൻ അദുല്ലാമ്യനായ ഹീരയോടുകൂടെ തിമ്നായിൽ തന്റെ ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരത്തിനുപോയി.

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold, thy father in law goeth up to Timnah to shear his sheep.

൧൩“നിന്റെ അമ്മായിയപ്പൻ ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരത്തിനു തിമ്നായ്ക്കു പോകുന്നു” എന്നു താമാറിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.

14 And she put off from her the garments of her widowhood, and covered herself with her veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gate of Enaim, which is by the way to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah was grown up, and she was not given unto him to wife.

൧൪ശേലാ പ്രായപൂർത്തിയായിട്ടും തന്നെ അവന് ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ട് അവൾ വിധവാവസ്ത്രം മാറ്റിവച്ച്, ഒരു മൂടുപടം മൂടി പുതച്ച് തിമ്നായ്ക്കു പോകുന്ന വഴിക്കുള്ള എനയീംപട്ടണത്തിന്റെ വാതിൽക്കൽ ഇരുന്നു.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; for she had covered her face.

൧൫യെഹൂദാ അവളെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അവൾ മുഖം മൂടിയിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ഒരു വേശ്യ എന്നു വിചാരിച്ചു.

16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee: for he knew not that she was his daughter in law. And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

൧൬അവൻ വഴിയരികെ അവളുടെ അടുക്കലേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞു തന്റെ മരുമകൾ എന്നു അറിയാതെ: “വരിക, ഞാൻ നിന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരട്ടെ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. “എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്നതിനു നീ എനിക്ക് എന്ത് തരും” എന്ന് അവൾ ചോദിച്ചു.

17 And he said, I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

൧൭“ഞാൻ ആട്ടിൻകൂട്ടത്തിൽനിന്ന് ഒരു ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെ നിനക്ക് കൊടുത്തയക്കാം” എന്ന് അവൻ പറഞ്ഞു. “നീ കൊടുത്തയക്കുന്നതുവരെ ഒരു പണയം തരുമോ” എന്ന് അവൾ ചോദിച്ചു.

18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

൧൮“ഞാൻ നിനക്ക് എന്ത് പണയം തരണം” എന്ന് അവൻ ചോദിച്ചതിന് “നിന്റെ മുദ്രമോതിരവും മോതിരച്ചരടും നിന്റെ കൈയിലെ വടിയും” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു. ഇവ അവൾക്കു കൊടുത്തു, അവൻ അവളുടെ അടുക്കൽ ചെന്നു; അവൾ ഗർഭം ധരിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

19 And she arose, and went away, and put off her veil from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

൧൯പിന്നെ അവൾ എഴുന്നേറ്റുപോയി, തന്റെ മൂടുപടം നീക്കി വിധവാവസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ചു.

20 And Judah sent the kid of the goats by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.

൨൦സ്ത്രീയുടെ കൈയിൽനിന്നും പണയം മടക്കിവാങ്ങേണ്ടതിന് യെഹൂദാ അദുല്ലാമ്യനായ സ്നേഹിതന്റെ കൈവശം ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെ കൊടുത്തയച്ചു; അവൻ അവളെ കണ്ടില്ലതാനും.

21 Then he asked the men of her place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was at Enaim by the way side? And they said, There hath been no harlot here.

൨൧അവൻ ആ സ്ഥലത്തെ ആളുകളോട്: “എനയീമിൽ വഴിയരികെ ഇരുന്ന വേശ്യ എവിടെ” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്: “ഇവിടെ ഒരു വേശ്യയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല” എന്ന് അവർ പറഞ്ഞു.

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I have not found her; and also the men of the place said, There hath been no harlot here.

൨൨അവൻ യെഹൂദായുടെ അടുക്കൽ മടങ്ങിവന്നു: “ഞാൻ അവളെ കണ്ടില്ല; ‘ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത് ഒരു വേശ്യയും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല’ എന്ന് അവിടെയുള്ള ആളുകൾ പറഞ്ഞു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be put to shame: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

൨൩“അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാ നമുക്ക് അപകീർത്തി ഉണ്ടാകാതിരിക്കുവാൻ അവൾ അത് എടുത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; ഞാൻ ഈ ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടിയെ കൊടുത്തയച്ചുവല്ലോ; നീ അവളെ കണ്ടില്ലതാനും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and moreover, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

൨൪ഏകദേശം മൂന്നുമാസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ട്: “നിന്റെ മരുമകൾ താമാർ പരസംഗം ചെയ്തു, പരസംഗത്താൽ ഗർഭിണിയായിരിക്കുന്നു” എന്നു യെഹൂദായ്ക്ക് അറിവുകിട്ടി. അപ്പോൾ യെഹൂദാ: “അവളെ പുറത്തുകൊണ്ടുവരുവിൻ; അവളെ ചുട്ടുകളയണം” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and the cords, and the staff.

൨൫അവളെ പുറത്തു കൊണ്ടുവന്നപ്പോൾ അവൾ അമ്മായപ്പന്റെ അടുക്കൽ ആളയച്ച്: “ഇവയുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥനായ പുരുഷനാൽ ആകുന്നു ഞാൻ ഗർഭിണിയായിരിക്കുന്നത്; ഈ മുദ്രമോതിരവും മോതിരച്ചരടും വടിയും ആരുടേത് എന്നു നോക്കി അറിയണം” എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She is more righteous than I; forasmuch as I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

൨൬യെഹൂദാ അവയെ അറിഞ്ഞ്: “അവൾ എന്നിലും നീതിയുള്ളവൾ; ഞാൻ അവളെ എന്റെ മകൻ ശേലാവിനു കൊടുത്തില്ല” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതിൽപിന്നെ അവളെ പ്രാപിച്ചതുമില്ല.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

൨൭അവൾക്കു പ്രസവകാലം ആയപ്പോൾ അവളുടെ ഗർഭത്തിൽ ഇരട്ടക്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that one put out a hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

൨൮അവൾ പ്രസവിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരു കുഞ്ഞ് കൈ പുറത്തു നീട്ടി; അപ്പോൾ സൂതികർമ്മിണി ഒരു ചുവന്ന നൂൽ എടുത്ത് അവന്റെ കൈയ്ക്കു കെട്ടി; “ഇവൻ ആദ്യം പുറത്തു വന്നു” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, Wherefore hast thou made a breach for thyself? therefore his name was called Perez.

൨൯അവനോ കൈ പിന്നെയും അകത്തേക്കു വലിച്ചു. അപ്പോൾ അവന്റെ സഹോദരൻ പുറത്തു വന്നു: “നീ ഛിദ്രം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയത് എന്ത്” എന്ന് അവൾ പറഞ്ഞു. അതുകൊണ്ട് അവന് പേരെസ്സ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zerah.

൩൦അതിന്‍റെശേഷം കൈമേൽ ചുവന്ന നൂലുള്ള അവന്റെ സഹോദരൻ പുറത്തു വന്നു; അവന് സേരെഹ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.
