Ezra 5
1 Now the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem; in the name of the God of Israel [prophesied they] unto them.
ഹഗ്ഗായി, ഇദ്ദോവിന്റെ മകൻ സെഖര്യാവ് എന്നീ പ്രവാചകന്മാർ തങ്ങളുടെമേൽ ഉള്ള ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ നാമത്തിൽ യെഹൂദ്യയിലും ജെറുശലേമിലും ഉള്ള യെഹൂദരോടു പ്രവചിച്ചുവന്നു.
2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and with them were the prophets of God, helping them.
അപ്പോൾ ശെയൽത്തിയേലിന്റെ മകനായ സെരൂബ്ബാബേലും യോസാദാക്കിന്റെ മകനായ യോശുവയും ജെറുശലേമിലെ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ പുനരുദ്ധാരണം ആരംഭിച്ചു; അവരെ സഹായിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പ്രവാചകന്മാർ അവരോടൊപ്പംതന്നെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
3 At the same time came to them Tattenai, the governor beyond the river, and Shethar-bonzenai, and their companions, and said thus to them, Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?
ആ കാലത്ത് യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്കു മറുകരെയുള്ള പ്രവിശ്യയുടെ ദേശാധിപതിയായ തത്നായിയും ശെഥർ-ബോസ്നായിയും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടാളികളും അടുത്തുചെന്ന്, “മന്ദിരം പുനർനിർമിക്കുന്നതും ഈ വേല പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നതും ആരുടെ കൽപ്പനപ്രകാരമാണെന്നും
4 Then spake we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
ഈ കെട്ടിടം പണിയുന്നവരുടെ പേരുകൾ എന്താണ്” എന്നും ചോദിച്ചു.
5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, and they did not make them cease, till the matter should come to Darius, and then answer should be returned by letter concerning it.
എന്നാൽ യെഹൂദനേതാക്കന്മാരെ ദൈവം കടാക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നതിനാൽ, ഈ വിവരം ദാര്യാവേശിനെ അറിയിച്ച്, അദ്ദേഹം എഴുതിയ മറുപടി വരുന്നതുവരെ ആരും അവരുടെ പണി തടഞ്ഞില്ല.
6 The copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor beyond the river, and Shethar-bozenai, and his companions the Apharsachites, which were beyond the river, sent unto Darius the king:
യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്കു മറുകരെയുള്ള പ്രവിശ്യയുടെ ദേശാധിപതിയായ തത്നായിയും ശെഥർ-ബോസ്നായിയും യൂഫ്രട്ടീസ് നദിക്കു മറുകരെയുള്ള പ്രവിശ്യയുടെ പ്രതിനിധികളായ അവരുടെ കൂട്ടാളികളും ദാര്യാവേശ് രാജാവിന് അയച്ച കത്തിന്റെ പകർപ്പ്—
7 they sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.
അതിൽ ഇപ്രകാരം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു: ദാര്യാവേശ് രാജാവിന്: അങ്ങേക്കു സമാധാനാശംസകൾ.
8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judah, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth on with diligence and prospereth in their hands.
യെഹൂദാപ്രവിശ്യയിലുള്ള, വലിയവനായ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു ഞങ്ങൾ പോയവിവരം അങ്ങയെ അറിയിക്കട്ടെ. വലിയ കല്ലുകൾകൊണ്ട് അതു പണിതുവരികയാണ്. ചുമരിന്മേൽ തടിയുരുപ്പടികൾ വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. വളരെ ശുഷ്കാന്തിയോടെ നടക്കുന്ന പണി അവരുടെ കൈയാൽ അഭിവൃദ്ധിപ്പെട്ടും വരുന്നു.
9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who gave you a decree to build this house, and to finish this wall?
അവിടെയുള്ള നേതാക്കന്മാരോടു ഞങ്ങൾ സംസാരിക്കുകയും, “മന്ദിരം പുനർനിർമിക്കുന്നതും ഈ വേല പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നതും ആരുടെ കൽപ്പനപ്രകാരമാണ്” എന്നു ചോദിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
10 We asked them their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were at the head of them.
അവർക്കു നേതൃത്വം കൊടുക്കുന്നവർ ആരൊക്കെയെന്ന് അങ്ങയെ എഴുതി അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന് അവരുടെ പേരുകളും ഞങ്ങൾ ചോദിച്ചു.
11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and finished.
അവർ നൽകിയ മറുപടി ഇപ്രകാരമാണ്: “സ്വർഗത്തിന്റെയും ഭൂമിയുടെയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദാസന്മാരാണു ഞങ്ങൾ. ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹാനായ ഒരു രാജാവ് വളരെ വർഷങ്ങൾക്കുമുമ്പ് പണിതീർത്ത ആലയം ഞങ്ങൾ പുതുക്കിപ്പണിയുകയാണ്.
12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
ഞങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാർ സ്വർഗത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെ കോപിപ്പിച്ചതിനാൽ അവിടന്ന് അവരെ ബാബേൽരാജാവായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസർ എന്ന കൽദയന്റെ കൈയിൽ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം ഈ ആലയം നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ജനത്തെ ബാബേലിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
13 But in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, Cyrus the king made a decree to build this house of God.
“എന്നാൽ ബാബേൽരാജാവായ കോരെശ്, തന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന്റെ ഒന്നാമാണ്ടിൽ, ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ഈ ആലയം പുനർനിർമിക്കണമെന്ന കൽപ്പന പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു.
14 And the gold and sliver vessels also of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;
തന്നെയുമല്ല, ജെറുശലേമിലെ ആലയത്തിൽനിന്നും ബാബേലിലെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്കു നെബൂഖദ്നേസർ കൊണ്ടുപോയ ആലയംവക സ്വർണം, വെള്ളി, തുടങ്ങിയ ഉപകരണങ്ങൾ കോരെശ്‌രാജാവ് ബാബേലിലെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽനിന്നു പുറത്തെടുത്തു. അതിനുശേഷം കോരെശ്‌രാജാവ്, താൻ ദേശാധിപതിയായി നിയമിച്ച ശേശ്ബസ്സ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളവനെ അവ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു;
15 and he said unto him, Take these vessels, go, put them in the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in its place.
‘ഈ ഉപകരണങ്ങൾ എടുത്ത് ജെറുശലേമിലെ മന്ദിരത്തിൽ കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു വെക്കുക; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയം അതിന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തുതന്നെ പണിയുക’ എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ചു.
16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundations of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not completed.
“അങ്ങനെ ശേശ്ബസ്സർ വന്ന് ജെറുശലേമിലെ ദൈവാലയത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനം ഇട്ടു. അന്നുമുതൽ ഇന്നുവരെ അതിന്റെ പണി നടക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോഴും അതു തീർന്നിട്ടില്ല.”
17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king’s treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
ആകയാൽ രാജാവിനു ഹിതമെങ്കിൽ, ജെറുശലേമിലെ ദൈവാലയം വീണ്ടും പണിയാൻ കോരെശ്‌രാജാവ് വാസ്തവത്തിൽ അപ്രകാരം ഒരു കൽപ്പന നൽകിയിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ബാബേലിലെ രാജകീയ രേഖാശാലയിൽ അന്വേഷിക്കുക. ഈ കാര്യത്തിൽ രാജാവിന്റെ താത്പര്യമെന്തെന്നു ഞങ്ങളെ അറിയിച്ചാലും.
