Ezra 10
1 Now while Ezra prayed, and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before the house of God, there was gathered together unto him out of Israel a very great congregation of men and women and children: for the people wept very sore.
૧એઝરા ઈશ્વરના ભક્તિસ્થાન આગળ પોતાને નમ્ર કરીને રડીને અપરાધના પસ્તાવા સાથે પ્રાર્થના કરતો હતો. તે દરમિયાન ઇઝરાયલી સ્ત્રીઓ, પુરુષો અને બાળકોનું એક મોટું ટોળું તેની આજુબાજુ ભેગું થઈ ગયું. તેઓ વિલાપ કરવા લાગ્યા.
2 And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra, We have trespassed against our God, and have married strange women of the peoples of the land: yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
૨ત્યારે એલામના એક વંશજ યહીએલના પુત્ર શખાન્યાએ એઝરાને કહ્યું, “આપણે આ દેશની અન્યધર્મી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કરીને ઈશ્વરનો અનાદર કર્યો છે. તેમ છતાં પણ તે સંબંધી ઇઝરાયલીઓ માટે હજી આશા છે.
3 Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.
૩હવે આપણે આપણા ઈશ્વર સમક્ષ કરાર કરીએ કે, આપણે આ સ્ત્રીઓને તેઓથી જન્મેલા સંતાનો સાથે મૂકી દઈશું. અને અમે આ પ્રમાણે પ્રભુથી ડરીને તેમની સલાહ પ્રમાણે ચાલીશું. ઈશ્વરના નિયમનું પાલન થવું જ જોઈએ.
4 Arise; for the matter belongeth unto thee, and we are with thee: be of good courage, and do it.
૪ઊઠો, આ કામ તમારું છે અમે તમારી સાથે છીએ. હિંમત રાખીને આ કામ પૂર્ણ કરો.”
5 Then arose Ezra, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they sware.
૫ત્યારે એઝરાએ ઊઠીને મુખ્ય યાજકોને, લેવીઓને તથા સર્વ ઇઝરાયલીઓને સમ ખવડાવ્યા કે અમો તે વચન પ્રમાણે જ કરીશું. તેઓ સર્વએ સોગન લીધા.
6 Then Ezra rose up from before the house of God, and went into the chamber of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and [when] he came thither, he did eat no bread, nor drink water: for he mourned because of the trespass of them of the captivity.
૬ત્યાર બાદ એઝરા ઈશ્વરના ભક્તિસ્થાન સામેથી ઊઠીને એલ્યાશીબના પુત્ર યહોહાનાનની ઓરડીમાં પ્રવેશ્યો. તેણે કંઈ પણ ખાધું નહિ અને પાણી પણ પીધું નહિ. બંદીવાસમાંથી પાછા આવેલા લોકોના અપરાધોને લીધે તે શોકમાં હતો.
7 And they made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem unto all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together unto Jerusalem;
૭તેઓએ ઢંઢેરો પિટાવીને આખા યહૂદિયામાં, યરુશાલેમમાં સર્વ બંદીવાનોને યરુશાલેમમાં ભેગા થવા માટે કહેવડાવ્યું.
8 and that whosoever came not within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the congregation of the captivity.
૮એમ જણાવ્યું કે સરદાર અને વડીલોની સલાહ પ્રમાણે જે કોઈ ત્રણ દિવસમાં આવશે નહિ તેની બધી મિલકત જપ્ત કરવામાં આવશે અને તેમને બંદીવાસવાળાઓના સમૂહમાંથી દૂર કરવામાં આવશે.”
9 Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together unto Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth [day] of the month: and all the people sat in the broad place before the house of God, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.
૯આથી ત્રણ દિવસની અંદર યહૂદિયાના અને બિન્યામીનના પ્રદેશના બધા લોકો યરુશાલેમમાં ભેગા થયા. નવમા માસના વીસમા દિવસે તેઓ બધા આ વાતના ભયના લીધે અને મૂશળધાર વરસાદને લીધે તેઓ ધ્રૂજતા ધ્રૂજતા આવીને ઈશ્વરના ભક્તિસ્થાનના આંગણામાં બેઠા.
10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have trespassed, and have married strange women, to increase the guilt of Israel.
૧૦પછી યાજક એઝરાએ ઊભા થઈને કહ્યું, “તમે વિધર્મી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કરીને ઈશ્વરને તજી દીધા છે અને ઇઝરાયલમાં અપરાધનો વધારો કર્યો છે.
11 Now therefore make confession unto the LORD, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the strange women.
૧૧માટે હવે તમારા પિતૃઓના ઈશ્વર, યહોવાહ સમક્ષ સ્તુતિ કરો અને તેમની ઇચ્છાને અનુસરીને તમારી નજીક વસેલા સ્થાનિક અન્ય લોકોથી અને તમારી અન્યધર્મી પત્નીઓથી અલગ થઈ જાઓ.”
12 Then all the congregation answered and said with a loud voice, as thou hast said concerning us, so must we do.
૧૨ત્યારે આખી સભાએ ઊંચા અવાજે કહ્યું, “નિશ્ચે, તમે કહ્યું છે તે પ્રમાણે અમારે કરવું જ જોઈએ.
13 But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand without, neither is this a work of one day or two: for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.
૧૩પણ લોકો ઘણા છે અને વરસાદની ઋતુ છે, તેથી આપણને બહાર ઊભા રહેવા માટે સામર્થ્ય નથી, વળી આ કામ એક બે દિવસનું નથી; કારણ કે, આ બાબતમાં તો અમે મોટું પાપ કર્યું છે.
14 Let now our princes be appointed for all the congregation, and let all them that are in our cities which have married strange women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and the judges thereof, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter be despatched.
૧૪દરેક શહેરમાં અમારામાંના જેઓ અન્યધર્મી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કર્યાં છે તેઓ વડીલો અને ન્યાયાધીશો સાથે ઠરાવેલ સમયે હાજર થાય, અમારા આગેવાનો આખા સમાજનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરે કે આ કારણે ભભૂકી ઊઠેલો ઈશ્વરનો કોપ આપણા પરથી દુર થાય.”
15 Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this [matter]: and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
૧૫કેવળ અસાહેલના પુત્ર યોનાથાન તથા તિકવાના પુત્ર યાહઝયાએ આ બાબતનો વિરોધ કર્યો, અને મશુલ્લામે તથા લેવી શાબ્બથાય તેઓને સાથ આપ્યો. બાકીના સર્વ લોકોએ એઝરાની સુચનાનો સ્વીકાર કર્યો.
16 And the children of the captivity did so. And Ezra the priest, [with] certain heads of fathers’ [houses], after their fathers’ houses, and all of them by their names, were separated; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
૧૬તેથી બંદીવાસમાંથી છૂટીને આવેલા લોકોએ પણ એઝરાના કહેવા પ્રમાણે કર્યુ. યાજક એઝરાએ પિતૃઓના વંશજોના પ્રતિનિધિ તરીકે કેટલાક વડાઓને પસંદ કર્યા અને તેઓના નામની યાદી બનાવી. દસમા માસના પહેલા દિવસે તેમણે આ બાબતની તપાસ શરૂ કરી
17 And they made an end with all the men that had married strange women by the first day of the first month.
૧૭પ્રથમ માસના પ્રથમ દિવસ સુધીમાં તેમણે અન્યધર્મી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કરેલા બધા પુરુષોની તપાસ કાર્યવાહી પૂરી કરી.
18 And among the sons of the priests there were found that had married strange women: [namely], of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brethren, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
૧૮યાજકોના કુટુંબોમાં અન્યધર્મી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કરેલા જે પુરુષો માલૂમ પડ્યા, તેઓનાં નામ આ પ્રમાણે છે: યેશૂઆના વંશજોમાંના, યોસાદાકનો પુત્ર તથા તેના ભાઈઓ માસેયા, એલિએઝેર, યારીબ તથા ગદાલ્યા.
19 And they gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, [they offered] a ram of the flock for their guilt.
૧૯એ બધાએ પોતાની પત્નીઓને તજી દેવાનું વચન આપ્યું. તેઓએ પોતાના અપરાધોને લીધે પાપાર્થાર્પણ તરીકે એક ઘેટાંનું અર્પણ કર્યું.
20 And of the sons of Immer; Hanani and Zebadiah.
૨૦ઈમ્મેરના વંશજોમાંથી હનાની અને ઝબાદ્યા
21 And of the sons of Harim; Maaseiah, and Elijah, and Shemaiah, and Jehiel, and Uzziah.
૨૧હારીમના વંશજોમાંથી માસેયા, એલિયા, શમાયા, યહીએલ, અને ઉઝિયા,
22 And of the sons of Pashhur; Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Elasah.
૨૨પાશહૂરના વંશજોમાંથી એલ્યોએનાય, માસેયા, ઇશ્માએલ, નથાનએલ, યોઝાબાદ અને એલાસા.
23 And of the Levites; Jozabad, and Shimei, and Kelaiah (the same is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.
૨૩લેવીઓમાંથી યોઝાબાદ, શિમઇ, કેલાયા જે કેલીટા પણ કહેવાય છે, પથાહ્યા યહૂદા અને એલિએઝેર.
24 And of the singers; Eliashib; and of the porters; Shallum, and Telem, and Uri.
૨૪ગાયકોમાંથી એલ્યાશીબ, દ્વારપાળોમાંથી શાલ્લુમ, ટેલેમ અને ઉરી.
25 And of Israel: of the sons of Parosh; Ramiah, and Izziah, and Malchijah, and Mijamin, and Eleazar, and Malchijah, and Benaiah.
૨૫ઇઝરાયલીઓમાંથી: પારોશના વંશજોમાંના; રામિયા, યિઝિયા, માલ્કિયા, મીયામીન, એલાઝાર, માલ્કિયા તથા બનાયા.
26 And of the sons of Elam; Mattaniah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, and Abdi, and Jeremoth, and Elijah.
૨૬એલામી વંશજોમાંથી માત્તાન્યા, ઝખાર્યા, યહીએલ, આબ્દી, યેરેમોથ તથા એલિયા હતા.
27 And of the sons of Zattu; Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah, and Jeremoth, and Zabad, and Aziza.
૨૭ઝાત્તૂના વંશજોમાંથી: એલ્યોએનાય, એલ્યાશીબ, માત્તાન્યા, યેરેમોથ, ઝાબાદ તથા અઝીઝા.
28 And of the sons of Bebai; Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.
૨૮બેબાયના વંશજોમાંથી; યહોહાનાન, હનાન્યા, ઝાબ્બાય તથા આથલાય.
29 And of the sons of Bani; Meshullam, Malluch, and Adaiah, Jashub, and Sheal, Jeremoth.
૨૯બાનીના વંશજોમાંથી: મશુલ્લામ, માલ્લૂખ, અદાયા, યાશૂબ, શેઆલ તથા યરિમોથ.
30 And of the sons of Pahath-moab; Adna, and Chelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel, and Binnui, and Manasseh.
૩૦પાહાથ મોઆબના વંશજોમાંથી; આદના, કલાલ, બનાયા, માસેયા, માત્તાન્યા, બસાલેલ, બિન્નૂઇ તથા મનાશ્શા.
31 And [of] the sons of Harim; Eliezer, Isshijah, Malchijah, Shemaiah, Shimeon;
૩૧હારીમના વંશજોમાંથી: એલિએઝેર, યિશ્શિયા, માલ્કિયા, શમાયા, શિમયોન,
32 Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.
૩૨બિન્યામીન, માલ્લૂખ તથા શમાર્યા.
33 Of the sons of Hashum; Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.
૩૩હાશુમના વંશજોમાંથી; માત્તનાય, માત્તાત્તા, ઝાબાદ, અલિફેલેટ, યરેમાઇ, મનાશ્શા તથા શિમઇ,
34 Of the sons of Bani; Maadai, Amram, and Uel;
૩૪બાનીના વંશજોમાંથી; માઅદાય, આમ્રામ, ઉએલ;
35 Benaiah, Bedeiah, Cheluhi;
૩૫બનાયા, બેદયા, કલૂહી;
36 Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib;
૩૬વાન્યા, મરેમોથ, એલ્યાશીબ.
37 Mattaniah, Mattenai, and Jaasu;
૩૭માત્તાન્યા, માત્તનાય, યાસુ;
38 and Bani, and Binnui, Shimei;
૩૮બાની, બિન્નૂઈ, શિમઇ,
39 and Shelemiah, and Nathan, and Adaiah;
૩૯નાથાન, શેલેમ્યા, અદાયા,
40 Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai;
૪૦માખ્નાદબાય, શાશાય, શારાય.
41 Azarel, and Shelemiah, Shemariah;
૪૧અઝારેલ, શેલેમ્યા, શમાર્યા,
42 Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.
૪૨શાલ્લુમ, અમાર્યા અને યૂસફ;
43 Of the sons of Nebo; Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Iddo, and Joel, Benaiah.
૪૩નબોના વંશજોમાંના; યેઈએલ, માત્તિથ્યા, ઝાબાદ, ઝબીના, યિદ્દો, યોએલ તથા બનાયા.
44 All these had taken strange wives: and some of them had wives by whom they had children.
૪૪આ બધાએ વિદેશી સ્ત્રીઓ સાથે લગ્ન કર્યા હતા અને તેઓમાંના કેટલાકને તે સ્ત્રીઓથી બાળકો પણ થયાં હતાં.
