Esther 3
1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
Depois destas coisas, o rei Assuero engrandeceu a Hamã filho de Hamedata agagita, e o exaltou, e pôs seu assento acima de todos os príncipes que estavam com ele.
2 And all the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, bowed down, and did reverence to Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence.
E todos os servos do rei que estavam à porta do rei se inclinavam e prostravam diante de Hamã, porque assim o rei tinha mandado acerca dele; porém Mardoqueu não se inclinava nem se prostrava.
3 Then the king’s servants, that were in the king’s gate, said unto Mordecai, Why transgressest thou the king’s commandment?
Então os servos do rei que estavam à porta do rei disseram a Mardoqueu: Por que transgrides o mandamento do rei?
4 Now it came to pass, when they spake daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
Sucedeu, pois, que, tendo eles dito [isto] dia após dia, e ele não tendo lhes dado ouvidos, avisaram dele a Hamã, para verem se as palavras de Mardoqueu continuariam; porque ele tinha lhes declarado que era judeu.
5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not down, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
Quando Hamã viu que Mardoqueu não se inclinava nem se prostrava diante dele, ele se encheu de furor.
6 But he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had shewed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
Porém, tendo já sido informado do povo de Mardoqueu, ele achou pouco matar apenas Mardoqueu; então Hamã procurou destruir a todos os judeus, o povo de Mardoqueu, que havia no reino de Assuero.
7 In the first month, which is the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, [to] the twelfth [month], which is the month Adar.
No primeiro mês (que é o mês de Nisã), no décimo segundo ano do rei Assuero, foi lançada Pur, isto é, a sorte, diante de Hamã, para cada dia e para cada mês; e [a sorte indicou] o décimo segundo mês, o mês de Adar.
8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom; and their laws are diverse from [those of] every people; neither keep they the king’s laws: therefore it is not for the king’s profit to suffer them.
Então Hamã disse ao rei Assuero: Há um povo disperso e dividido entre os povos em todas as províncias de teu reino, cujas leis são diferentes das de todo o povo, e não obedecem às leis do rei; por isso não convém ao rei tolerá-los.
9 If it please the king, let it be written that they be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those that have the charge of the [king’s] business, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.
Se for do agrado do rei, escreva-se que sejam destruídos; e eu porei dez mil talentos de prata nas mãos dos executarem a ação, para que sejam postos na tesouraria do rei.
10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy.
Então o rei tirou seu anel de sua mão, e o deu a Hamã filho de Hamedata agageu, inimigo dos judeus,
11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seemeth good to thee.
E o rei disse a Hamã: Essa prata te seja dada; e também esse povo, para fazeres dele o que quiseres.
12 Then were the king’s scribes called in the first month, on the thirteenth day thereof, and there was written according to all that Haman commanded unto the king’s satraps, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the princes of every people; to every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and it was sealed with the king’s ring.
Então chamaram aos escrivães do rei no primeiro mês, no [dia] treze do mesmo, e foi escrito conforme a tudo o que Hamã mandou, aos príncipes do rei, e aos governadores que havia sobre cada província, e aos líderes de cada povo, a cada província conforme sua escrita, e a cada povo conforme sua língua; em nome do rei Assuero foi escrito, e com o anel do rei foi selado.
13 And letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth [day] of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
E foram enviadas cartas por meio de mensageiros a todas as províncias do rei, para destruírem, matarem, e exterminarem a todos os judeus, desde o menino até o velho, crianças e mulheres em um dia, no [dia] treze do décimo segundo mês (que é o mês de Adar), e para saquearem suas posses.
14 A copy of the writing, that the decree should be given out in every province, was published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day.
A cópia do texto foi entregue como decreto para que anunciasse em todas as províncias em público a todos os povos, para que estivessem preparados para aquele dia.
15 The posts went forth in haste by the king’s commandment, and the decree was given out in Shushan the palace: and the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.
Assim os mensageiros, obrigados pela palavra do rei, saíram, e o decreto foi anunciado na fortaleza de Susã. E o rei e Hamã se sentaram para beber; porém a cidade de Susã estava confusa.
