Ecclesiastes 7
1 A [good] name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.
सम्मानित होना इत्र से कहीं ज्यादा बेहतर है, और मृत्यु के दिन से बेहतर है किसी व्यक्ति के जन्म का दिन.
2 It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.
शोक के घर में जाना भोज के घर में जाने से कहीं ज्यादा अच्छा है, क्योंकि हर एक मनुष्य का अंत यही है; और जीवित इस पर ध्यान दें.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made glad.
शोक करना हंसने से अच्छा है, क्योंकि हो सकता है कि चेहरा तो उदास हो मगर हृदय आनंदित.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
बुद्धिमान का हृदय तो शोक करनेवालों के घर में होता है, मगर निर्बुद्धियों का हृदय भोज के घर में ही होता है.
5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.
एक बुद्धिमान की फटकार सुनना मूर्खों के गीतों को सुनने से बेहतर है.
6 For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.
मूर्खों की हंसी किसी बर्तन के नीचे कांटों के जलने की आवाज के समान होती है. और यह भी सिर्फ बेकार ही है.
7 Surely extortion maketh a wise man foolish; and a gift destroyeth the understanding.
अत्याचार बुद्धिमान को मूर्ख बना देता है और घूस हृदय को भ्रष्ट कर देती है.
8 Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.
किसी काम का अंत उसकी शुरुआत से बेहतर है, और धैर्य बेहतर है. घमण्ड से.
9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
क्रोध करने में जल्दबाजी न करना, क्योंकि क्रोध निर्बुद्धियों के हृदय में रहता है.
10 Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
तुम्हारा यह कहना न हो, “बीता हुआ समय आज से बेहतर क्यों था?” क्योंकि इस बारे में तुम्हारा यह कहना बुद्धि द्वारा नहीं है.
11 Wisdom is as good as an inheritance: yea, more excellent is it for them that see the sun.
बुद्धि के साथ मीरास पाना सबसे अच्छा है, और उनके लिए यह एक फायदा है जो जीवित हैं.
12 For wisdom is a defence, even as money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom preserveth the life of him that hath it.
बुद्धि की सुरक्षा वैसी ही है जैसे धन की सुरक्षा, मगर ज्ञान का फायदा यह है: कि बुद्धि बुद्धिमान को जीवित रखती है.
13 Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?
परमेश्वर के कामों पर मनन करो: क्योंकि वह ही इसके योग्य हैं कि टेढ़े को सीधा कर सकें.
14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God hath even made the one side by side with the other, to the end that man should not find out any thing [that shall be] after him.
भरपूरी के दिनों में तो खुश रहो; मगर दुःख के दिनों में विचार करो: दोनों ही परमेश्वर ने बनाए हैं, जिससे मनुष्य को यह मालूम हो कि उसके बाद क्या होगा.
15 All this have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a righteous man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth [his life] in his evil-doing.
अपने बेकार के जीवन में मैंने हर एक चीज़ देखी: धर्मी अपनी धार्मिकता में ही खत्म हो जाता है, किंतु जब दुष्टता करता है तब अपनी उम्र बढ़ाता है.
16 Be not righteous over much; neither make thyself over wise: why shouldest thou destroy thyself?
बहुत धर्मी न होना, और न ही बहुत बुद्धिमान बनना. इस प्रकार तुम अपना ही विनाश क्यों करो?
17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time?
बहुत दुष्ट न होना, और न ही मूर्ख बनना. क्योंकि समय से पहले तुम्हारी मृत्यु क्यों हो?
18 It is good that thou shouldest take hold of this; yea, also from that withdraw not thine hand: for he that feareth God shall come forth of them all.
अच्छा होगा कि तुम एक चीज़ पर अधिकार कर लो और अपने दूसरे हाथ को भी आराम न करने दो. क्योंकि परमेश्वर के प्रति श्रद्धा और भय रखनेवाला व्यक्ति ही ये दोनों काम कर पाएगा.
19 Wisdom is a strength to the wise man more than ten rulers which are in a city.
बुद्धिमान के लिए बुद्धि नगर के दस शासकों से भी बलवान होती है.
20 Surely there is not a righteous man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
पृथ्वी पर एक व्यक्ति भी ऐसा धर्मी नहीं है, जो अच्छे काम ही करता हो और पाप न करता हो.
21 Also take not heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee:
लोगों की बातों पर ध्यान न देना, तो तुम अपने सेवक को तुम्हारी निंदा करते नहीं सुनोगे.
22 for oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others.
क्योंकि तुम्हें मालूम होगा कि ठीक इसी तरह तुम भी बहुतों की निंदा कर चुके हो.
23 All this have I proved in wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me.
इन सभी कामों की छानबीन मैंने बुद्धि द्वारा की और मैंने कहा, “मैं बुद्धिमान बनूंगा,” मगर यह मुझसे बहुत दूर थी.
24 That which is is far off, and exceeding deep; who can find it out?
जो कुछ है वह हमारी बुद्धि से परे है. यह गहरा है, बहुत ही गहरा. उसकी थाह कौन पाएगा?
25 I turned about, and my heart [was set] to know and to search out, and to seek wisdom and the reason [of things], and to know that wickedness is folly, and that foolishness is madness:
मैंने अपने हृदय से यह मालूम करने की कोशिश की कि बुद्धि और ज्ञान क्या हैं और दुष्ट की मूर्खता पता करूं और मूर्खता जो पागलपन ही है.
26 And I find a thing more bitter than death, [even] the woman whose heart is snares and nets, [and] her hands [as] bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her.
मुझे यह मालूम हुआ कि एक स्त्री जिसका हृदय घात लगाए रहता है, और उसके हाथ बेड़ियां डालते हैं वह मृत्यु से भी कड़वी है. उस स्त्री से वही व्यक्ति सुरक्षित बच निकलता है जो परमेश्वर के सामने अच्छा है, मगर पापी व्यक्ति उसका शिकार बन जाता है.
27 Behold, this have I found, saith the Preacher; [laying] one thing to another, to find out the account:
दार्शनिक कहता है, “देखो!” मुझे यह मालूम हुआ: “मैंने एक चीज़ से दूसरी को मिलाया, कि इसके बारे में मालूम कर सकूं,
28 which my soul still seeketh, but I have not found: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found.
जिसकी मैं अब तक खोज कर रहा हूं मगर वह मुझे नहीं मिली है. मैंने हज़ार पुरुष तो धर्मी पाए, मगर एक भी स्त्री नहीं!
29 Behold, this only have I found, that God made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.
मगर मुझे यह ज़रूर मालूम हुआ: परमेश्वर ने तो मनुष्यों को धर्मी होने के लिए रचा है, मगर वे अपने ही बनाए हुए निचले रास्ते पर बढ़ने लगे.”
