Ecclesiastes 3
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
૧પૃથ્વી ઉપર પ્રત્યેક વસ્તુને માટે યોગ્ય ઋતુ અને પ્રત્યેક પ્રયોજનો માટે યોગ્ય સમય હોય છે.
2 a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
૨જન્મ લેવાનો સમય અને મૃત્યુ પામવાનો સમય, છોડ રોપવાનો સમય અને રોપેલાને ઉખેડી નાખવાનો સમય;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
૩મારી નાખવાનો સમય અને જીવાડવાનો સમય, તોડી પાડવાનો સમય અને બાંધવાનો સમય.
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
૪રડવાનો સમય અને હસવાનો સમય; શોક કરવાનો સમય અને નૃત્ય કરવાનો સમય.
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
૫પથ્થરો ફેંકી દેવાનો સમય અને પથ્થરો એકઠા કરવાનો સમય; આલિંગન કરવાનો સમય તથા આલિંગન કરવાથી દૂર રહેવાનો સમય.
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
૬શોધવાનો સમય અને ગુમાવવાનો સમય, રાખવાનો સમય અને ફેંકી દેવાનો સમય;
7 a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
૭ફાડવાનો સમય અને સીવવાનો સમય, શાંત રહેવાનો સમય અને બોલવાનો સમય.
8 a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.
૮પ્રેમ કરવાનો સમય અને ધિક્કારવાનો સમય યુદ્ધનો સમય અને સલાહ શાંતિનો સમય.
9 What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?
૯જે વિષે તે સખત પરિશ્રમ કરે છે તેથી માણસને શું ફળ પ્રાપ્ત થાય છે?
10 I have seen the travail which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised therewith.
૧૦જે કષ્ટમય શ્રમ ઈશ્વરે મનુષ્યોને કેળવવાના સાધન તરીકે આપ્યો છે તે મેં જોયો છે.
11 He hath made every thing beautiful in its time: also he hath set the world in their heart, yet so that man cannot find out the work that God hath done from the beginning even to the end.
૧૧યહોવાહે પ્રત્યેક વસ્તુને તેના યોગ્ય સમયમાં સુંદર બનાવી છે. જો કે ઈશ્વરે મનુષ્યના હૃદયમાં સનાતનપણું મૂક્યું છે. છતાં શરૂઆતથી તે અંત સુધી ઈશ્વરનાં કાર્યો મનુષ્ય સમજી શકતો નથી.
12 I know that there is nothing better for them, than to rejoice, and to do good so long as they live.
૧૨હું જાણું છું કે, પોતાના જીવન પર્યંત આનંદ કરવો અને ભલું કરવું તે કરતાં તેના માટે બીજું કંઈ શ્રેષ્ઠ નથી.
13 And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labour, is the gift of God.
૧૩વળી તેણે ખાવું, પીવું અને પોતાની સર્વ મહેનતથી સંતોષ અનુભવવો. આ તેને ઈશ્વર તરફથી પ્રાપ્ત થયેલું કૃપાદાન છે.
14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God hath done it, that men should fear before him.
૧૪હું જાણું છું કે ઈશ્વર જે કંઈ કરે છે તે સર્વ સદાને માટે રહેશે. તેમાં કશો વધારો કે ઘટાડો કરી શકાય નહિ, અને મનુષ્યો તેનો ડર રાખે તે હેતુથી ઈશ્વરે તે કર્યું છે.
15 That which is hath been already; and that which is to be hath already been: and God seeketh again that which is passed away.
૧૫જે હાલમાં છે તે અગાઉ થઈ ગયું છે; અને જે થવાનું છે તે પણ અગાઉ થઈ ગયેલું છે. અને જે વીતી ગયું છે તેને ઈશ્વર પાછું શોધી કાઢે છે.
16 And moreover I saw under the sun, in the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and in the place of righteousness, that wickedness was there.
૧૬વળી મેં પૃથ્વી પર જોયું કે સદાચારની જગાએ દુષ્ટતા અને નેકીની જગ્યાએ અનિષ્ટ છે.
17 I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.
૧૭મેં મારી જાતને કહ્યું કે, “યહોવાહ ન્યાયી અને દુષ્ટનો ન્યાય કરશે કેમ કે પ્રત્યેક પ્રયોજનને માટે અને પ્રત્યેક કાર્ય માટે યોગ્ય સમય હોય છે.”
18 I said in mine heart, [It is] because of the sons of men, that God may prove them, and that they may see that they themselves are [but as] beasts.
૧૮પછી મેં મારા મનમાં વિચાર્યું કે, “ઈશ્વર મનુષ્યની કસોટી કરે છે. તેથી તેઓ સમજે કે તેઓ પશુ સમાન છે.”
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; and man hath no preeminence above the beasts: for all is vanity.
૧૯કેમ કે માણસોને જે થાય છે તે જ પશુઓને થાય છે. તેઓની એક જ સ્થિતિ થાય છે. જેમ એક મરે છે. તેમ બીજું પણ મરે છે. તે સર્વને એક જ પ્રાણ હોય છે તેથી મનુષ્ય પશુઓ કરતાં જરાય શ્રેષ્ઠ નથી. શું તે સઘળું વ્યર્થ નથી?
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
૨૦એક જ જગાએ સર્વ જાય છે સર્વ ધૂળના છીએ અને અંતે સર્વ ધૂળમાં જ મળી જાય છે.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man whether it goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast whether it goeth downward to the earth?
૨૧મનુષ્યનો આત્મા ઉપર જાય છે અને પશુનો આત્મા નીચે પૃથ્વીમાં જાય છે તેની ખબર કોને છે?
22 Wherefore I saw that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him [back] to see what shall be after him?
૨૨તેથી મેં જોયું કે, માણસે પોતાના કામમાં મગ્ન રહેવું તેથી વધારે સારું બીજું કશું નથી. કેમ કે એ જ તેનો હિસ્સો છે. ભવિષ્યમાં શું બનવાનું છે તે તેને કોણ દેખાડશે?
