< Deuteronomy 29 >
1 These are the words of the covenant which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, beside the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.
Pea ko eni ʻae ngaahi lea ʻoe fuakava, ʻaia naʻe fekau ʻe Sihova kia Mōsese ke fai mo e fānau ʻa ʻIsileli ʻi he fonua ʻo Moape, ka ʻoku kehe ʻae fuakava ʻaia naʻa ne fai mo kinautolu ʻi Holepi.
2 And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;
Pea naʻe ui ʻe Mōsese ki ʻIsileli kotoa pē, ʻo ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “Kuo mou mamata ki he meʻa kotoa pē naʻe fai ʻe Sihova ʻi homou ʻao ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite kia Felo, pea ki heʻene kau tamaioʻeiki kotoa pē, pea ki hono fonua kotoa pē.
3 the great temptations which thine eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders:
Ko e ngaahi meʻa ʻahiʻahi ʻaia naʻe mamata ki ai ʻa ho mata, ʻae ngaahi fakaʻilonga, mo e ngaahi mana lahi ko ia:
4 but the LORD hath not given you an heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.
Ka ʻoku teʻeki ai foaki kiate kimoutolu ʻe Sihova ʻae loto ke ʻilo, mo e mata ke mamata, mo e telinga ke ongo, ʻo aʻu mai ki he ʻaho ni.
5 And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.
Pea kuo u tataki ʻakimoutolu ʻi he taʻu ʻe fāngofulu ʻi he toafa ʻoku teʻeki ai fakaʻaʻau ʻo motuʻa homou ngaahi kofu, pea ʻoku ʻikai hoko ʻo motuʻa ho topuvaʻe ʻi ho vaʻe.
6 Ye have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink: that ye might know that I am the LORD your God.
Kuo ʻikai te mou kai mā, pea kuo ʻikai te mou inu uaine pe ha inu mālohi: koeʻuhi ke mou ʻilo ko au ko Sihova ko homou ʻOtua.
7 And when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:
Pea ʻi hoʻomou hoko ki he potu ni, naʻe haʻu ʻa Sihoni ko e tuʻi ʻo Hesiponi, mo Oki ko e tuʻi ʻo Pesani, ʻo tuʻu hake ko hotau tauʻi, pea naʻa tau teʻia ʻakinaua:
8 and we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half tribe of the Manassites.
Pea naʻa tau maʻu hona fonua, pea naʻe foaki ia ko e tofiʻa ki he faʻahinga ʻo Lupeni, mo e faʻahinga ʻo Kata, pea ki hono vaeuaʻanga ʻoe faʻahinga ʻo Manase.
9 Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.
Ko ia mou tauhi ʻae ngaahi lea ʻae fuakava ni, ʻo fai ki ai, koeʻuhi ke mou monūʻia ʻi he meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku mou fai.
10 Ye stand this day all of you before the LORD your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,
“ʻOku mou tutuʻu kotoa pē he ʻaho ni ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko homou ʻOtua; ko e ngaahi ʻeiki ʻo homou ngaahi faʻahinga, mo homou kau mātuʻa, mo homou kau matāpule, pea mo e kau tangata kotoa pē ʻo ʻIsileli,
11 your little ones, your wives, and thy stranger that is in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water:
Mo hoʻomou ngaahi fānau siʻi, mo homou ngaahi uaifi, mo e muli ʻoku ʻi ho ʻapitanga, ʻo fai mei he tangata ʻoku tā ʻa hoʻo fefie ʻo aʻu kiate ia ʻoku ʻutu ʻa hoʻo vai:
12 that thou shouldest enter into the covenant of the LORD thy God, and into his oath, which the LORD thy God maketh with thee this day:
Koeʻuhi ke ke fai ha fuakava mo Sihova ko ho ʻOtua, pea ki heʻene folofola fakapapau, ʻaia ʻoku fai ʻe Sihova ko ho ʻOtua mo koe he ʻaho ni:
13 that he may establish thee this day unto himself for a people, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he spake unto thee, and as he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
Koeʻuhi ke ne fokotuʻumaʻu koe he ʻaho ni ko e kakai moʻona, pea ke hoko ia kiate koe koe ʻOtua, ʻo hangē ko ʻene folofola kiate koe, pea hangē ko ʻene fuakava ki hoʻo ngaahi tamai, kia ʻEpalahame, mo ʻAisake, pea mo Sēkope.
14 Neither with you only do I make this covenant and this oath;
Pea ʻoku ʻikai ko ʻeku fai ʻae fuakava ko eni, mo e lea fakapapau ni kiate kimoutolu pe;
15 but with him that standeth here with us this day before the LORD our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day:
Ka kiate ia ʻoku tau tutuʻu mo ia he ʻaho ni ʻi he ʻao ʻo Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua, pea mo ia foki ʻoku ʻikai ʻi heni mo kitautolu he ʻaho ni:
16 (for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt; and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed;
(He ʻoku mou ʻilo pe naʻe fēfē ʻetau nofo ʻi he fonua ko ʻIsipite; pea mo ʻetau laka mai ʻi he ngaahi puleʻanga ʻaia naʻa mou haʻu ʻo ofi ki ai;
17 and ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them: )
Pea kuo mou mamata ki heʻenau ngaahi meʻa kovi, mo honau ngaahi ʻotua loi, ko e ʻakau, mo e maka, mo e siliva, mo e koula, ʻaia naʻe ʻiate kinautolu: )
18 lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the LORD our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
Telia naʻa ʻiate kimoutolu ha tangata, pe ha fefine, pe ha fale, pe ha faʻahinga, ʻoku tafoki hono loto he ʻaho ni meia Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua, ke ʻalu ʻo tauhi ʻae ngaahi ʻotua ʻoe ngaahi puleʻanga ni; telia naʻa ʻiate kimoutolu ʻae aka ʻoku fua ʻaki ʻae ʻahu mo e kona;
19 and it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of mine heart, to destroy the moist with the dry:
Pea ʻe hoko ai ʻo pehē, ʻi heʻene ongoʻi ʻae ngaahi lea ʻoe fakamalaʻia ni, te ne mahalo lelei kiate ia ʻi hono loto, ʻo pehē, Te u maʻu pe ʻae fiemālie, neongo ʻeku ʻeveʻeva pe ʻi he filioʻi ʻa hoku loto, ke fakalahi ʻaki ʻae kona ki he fieinu:
20 the LORD will not pardon him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven.
ʻE ʻikai mamae kiate ia ʻa Sihova, ka ʻe vela ʻae houhau mo e fuaʻa ʻo Sihova ki he tangata ko ia, pea ko e ngaahi malaʻia kotoa pē ʻaia kuo tohi ʻi he tohi ni, ʻe tuku tonu kiate ia, pea ʻe tāmateʻi ʻe Sihova hono hingoa mei he lalo langi.
21 And the LORD shall separate him unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.
Pea ʻe vaheʻi ia ʻe Sihova ki he kovi mei he ngaahi faʻahinga ʻo ʻIsileli, ʻo fakatatau ki he ngaahi malaʻia ʻoe fuakava ʻaia kuo tohi ʻi he tohi ni ʻoe fono:
22 And the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith the LORD hath made it sick;
Ko ia, ko e toʻutangata ʻamui ʻi hoʻomou fānau ʻaia ʻe tupu hake kimui ʻiate kimoutolu, pea mo e muli ʻaia ʻe haʻu mei he fonua mamaʻo, tenau pehē, ʻi heʻenau mamata ki he ngaahi tautea ʻoe fonua ko ia, mo e ngaahi mahaki ʻaia kuo tuku ki ai ʻe Sihova;
23 [and that] the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, [and] a burning, [that] it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:
Pea kuo hoko ʻae fonua kotoa pē ko e sulifa, mo e māsima, mo e vela, ʻoku ʻikai tūtuuʻi ia pe fua, pe tupu ha mohuku ʻi ai, ka ʻoku hangē ko e fulihi ʻo Sotoma, mo Komola, ko ʻAtima, mo Sipoimi, ʻaia naʻe fulihi ʻe Sihova ʻi heʻene tuputāmaki, pea ʻi hono houhau lahi:
24 even all the nations shall say, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?
ʻIo, ʻe lea ʻae puleʻanga kotoa pē, ʻo pehē, ‘Ko e hā kuo fai pehē ai ʻa Sihova ki he fonua ni? Ko e hā hono ʻuhinga ʻoe kakaha ʻo hono houhau lahi ni?’
25 Then men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of the LORD, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt;
Pea ʻe pehē ʻe he kakai, ‘Ko e meʻa ʻi heʻenau liʻaki ʻae fuakava ʻa Sihova ko e ʻOtua ʻo ʻenau ngaahi tamai, ʻaia naʻe fai mo kinautolu ʻi heʻene ʻomi ʻakinautolu kituaʻā mei he fonua ko ʻIsipite:
26 and went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods whom they knew not, and whom he had not given unto them:
He naʻa nau ʻalu ʻo tauhi ʻae ngaahi ʻotua kehe, pea lotu ki ai, ʻae ngaahi ʻotua naʻe ʻikai tenau ʻilo, pea naʻe ʻikai te ne foaki kiate kinautolu:
27 therefore the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book:
Pea naʻe tupu ai ʻae houhau ʻo Sihova ki he fonua ni, ke fakahoko ki ai ʻae ngaahi malaʻia kotoa pē kuo tohi ʻi he tohi ni:
28 and the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.
Pea naʻe taʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻe Sihova mei honau fonua ʻi he houhau, pea ʻi he houhau lahi, pea ʻi he tuputāmaki lahi, pea ne lī ʻakinautolu ki he fonua kehe, ʻo hangē ko ia ʻoku fai he ʻaho ni.’
29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
Ko e ngaahi meʻa lilo ʻoku ʻa Sihova ko hotau ʻOtua: ka ko e ngaahi meʻa kuo fakahā ʻoku ʻatautolu ia mo ʻetau fānau ʻo taʻengata, koeʻuhi ketau fai ʻae lea kotoa pē ʻoe fono ni.
