Daniel 1
1 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it.
El tercer año del reinado de Joacim, rey de Judá, llegó a Jerusalén Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y la sitió.
2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God; and he carried them into the land of Shinar to the house of his god: and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.
ʼAdonay entregó a Joacim, rey de Judá, en su mano, y parte de los utensilios de la Casa de ʼElohim. Los llevó al templo de su ʼelohim en tierra de Sinar. Puso los utensilios en el tesoro del templo.
3 And the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring in [certain] of the children of Israel, even of the seed royal and of the nobles;
El rey dijo a Aspenaz, jefe de sus servidores del palacio, que trajera algunos israelitas del linaje real y de los nobles,
4 youths in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability to stand in the king’s palace; and that he should teach them the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.
jóvenes de buen parecer en quienes no hubiera defecto, que mostraran inteligencia en toda sabiduría, dotados de entendimiento y discernimiento, y aptos para enseñarles la literatura y la lengua de los caldeos.
5 And the king appointed for them a daily portion of the king’s meat, and of the wine which he drank, and that they should be nourished three years; that at the end thereof they might stand before the king.
El rey les asignó su ración diaria de la mesa real y del vino que él bebía, para alimentarlos durante tres años a fin de que ellos fueran esclavos personales del rey.
6 Now among these were, of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah.
Entre ellos estaban Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías, de los hijos de Judá.
7 And the prince of the eunuchs gave names unto them: unto Daniel he gave [the name of] Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, [of] Shadrach; and to Mishael, [of] Meshach; and to Azariah, [of] Abed-nego.
El jefe de los servidores del palacio les cambió los nombres a éstos: A Daniel llamó Beltsasar; a Ananías, Sadrac; a Misael, Mesac, y a Azarías, Abed-nego.
8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel propuso en su corazón no contaminarse con la ración de la comida del rey, ni con el vino que bebía. Por tanto pidió permiso al jefe de los servidores del palacio para no contaminarse.
9 Now God made Daniel to find favour and compassion in the sight of the prince of the eunuchs.
[ʼElah] concedió a Daniel gracia y compasión de parte del jefe de los servidores del palacio.
10 And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Darnel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the youths which are of your own age? so should ye endanger my head with the king.
El jefe de los servidores del palacio dijo a Daniel: Tengo temor a mi ʼadón el rey, quien asignó su comida y su bebida. Si él ve sus rostros demacrados en comparación con los jóvenes de su edad, entonces ustedes pondrían mi cabeza en peligro ante el rey.
11 Then said Daniel to the steward, whom the prince of the eunuchs had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:
Entonces Daniel dijo al inspector, a quien el jefe de los servidores del palacio designó para cuidarlo a él, a Ananías, a Misael y a Azarías:
12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
Te ruego que hagas la prueba con tus esclavos durante diez días: que nos den legumbres para comer y agua para beber,
13 Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee, and the countenance of the youths that eat of the king’s meat; and as thou seest, deal with thy servants.
que luego nuestros semblantes sean comparados con los rostros de los jóvenes que comen de la comida del rey, y que hagas después con tus esclavos según lo que veas.
14 So he hearkened unto them in this matter, and proved them ten days.
Él convino con ellos e hizo la prueba durante diez días.
15 And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youths which did eat of the king’s meat.
Al final de los diez días, los semblantes de ellos se veían mejor y más nutridos que los de los otros jóvenes que comían la ración de los manjares del rey.
16 So the steward took away their meat, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.
Por lo cual el inspector cambiaba la porción de la comida de ellos y el vino que debían beber, y les daba legumbres.
17 Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.
ʼElohim concedió conocimiento e inteligencia en toda literatura y sabiduría a estos cuatro jóvenes, y Daniel tenía entendimiento en visiones y sueños.
18 And at the end of the days which the king had appointed for bringing them in, the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
Al terminar el tiempo que el rey fijó para prepararlos, el jefe de los servidores del palacio los presentó ante Nabucodonosor.
19 And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king.
Cuando el rey habló con ellos, no halló entre todos ellos a uno como Daniel, Ananías, Misael y Azarías, por lo cual permanecieron delante del rey.
20 And in every matter of wisdom and understanding, concerning which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his realm.
Sobre todo asunto de sabiduría e inteligencia que el rey les consultaba, los halló diez veces mejores que todos los magos y astrólogos que había en todo su reino.
21 And Daniel continued even unto the first year of king Cyrus.
Daniel continuó hasta el primer año del rey Ciro.
