Acts 2
1 And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place.
Quand arriva le jour de la Pentecôte, ils étaient tous ensemble, réunis,
2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
et tout à coup il se produisit, venant du ciel, un bruit semblable à un violent coup de vent, bruit qui remplit toute la maison où ils se trouvaient;
3 And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them.
il leur apparut alors, séparées les unes des autres, des langues ressemblant à des flammes; il s'en posa une sur chacun d'eux;
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
et ils furent tous remplis d'Esprit saint et commencèrent à parler en langues étrangères, selon que l'Esprit leur donnait de s'exprimer.
5 Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
A Jérusalem se trouvaient alors en séjour des Juifs, des hommes pieux venus de tous les pays qui sont sous le ciel.
6 And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.
Quand ce bruit se fit entendre, ils accoururent en foule et chacun fut stupéfait d'entendre parler sa propre langue.
7 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Ils étaient tous confondus d'étonnement et disaient: «Tous ces hommes qui sont là et qui parlent, ne sont-ils pas Galiléens?
8 And how hear we, every man in our own language, wherein we were born?
Comment donc chacun de nous les entend-il s'exprimer dans sa langue maternelle?
9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,
Parthes, Mèdes, Élamites, habitants de la Mésopotamie, de la Judée et de la Cappadoce, du Pont et de l'Asie,
10 in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
de la Phrygie et de la Pamphylie, de l'Égypte et du territoire de la Lybie cyrénaïque, étrangers de passage, venus de Rome! tant Juifs que prosélytes!...
11 Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.
Crétois!... Arabes!... nous les entendons parler dans nos langues des grandes choses que Dieu a faites!»
12 And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
Ils étaient tous confondus, ne savaient que penser; les uns se demandaient: «Qu'en adviendra-t-il?»
13 But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.
D'autres se moquaient, en disant qu'ils étaient pris de vin.
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, [saying], Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words.
Pierre alors s'avança avec les onze, éleva la voix et s'exprima ainsi: «Habitants de Judée et vous qui êtes en séjour à Jérusalem, Sachez bien ceci, prêtez l'oreille à mes paroles:
15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day;
ces hommes ne sont point ivres, comme vous le supposez, car il n'est que la troisième heure du jour,
16 but this is that which hath been spoken by the prophet Joel;
mais il arrive ce dont a parlé le prophète Joël:
17 And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:
«Il arrivera pendant les derniers jours, dit Dieu, Que je répandrai de mon Esprit sur toute chair; Et vos fils et vos filles prophétiseront; Vos jeunes gens auront des visions Et vos vieillards auront des songes;
18 Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.
Oui, sur mes serviteurs et sur mes servantes, en ces jours-là, Je répandrai de mon Esprit et ils prophétiseront.
19 And I will shew wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
Je ferai paraître des prodiges là-haut dans le ciel, Et des miracles ici-bas sur la terre, Du sang, du feu et des tourbillons de fumée,
20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable [day]:
Le soleil se changera en ténèbres - Et la lune en sang, Lorsque approchera le grand et glorieux jour du Seigneur;
21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Et quiconque invoquera le nom du Seigneur sera sauvé.»
22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;
«Hommes d'Israël, écoutez ces paroles: Jésus de Nazareth, cet homme dont Dieu a légitimé la mission devant vous, en faisant par ses mains et sous vos yeux des miracles, des prodiges et des signes, comme vous le savez parfaitement,
23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:
cet homme qui a été trahi — (et c'était un dessein arrêté par Dieu, une détermination prise d'avance par lui) — que des mains impies ont crucifié, que vous avez mis à mort,
24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
Dieu l'a ressuscité en anéantissant les horreurs de la mort, puisqu'il ne pouvait pas rester en sa puissance.
25 For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
Et, en effet, David dit de lui: «Je voyais toujours le Seigneur devant mois, Car il est à ma droite pour que je ne sois pas ébranlé;
26 Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:
Voilà pourquoi mon coeur a été dans la joie Et ma langue a chanté mon bonheur; Aussi mon corps reposera-t-il plein d'espérance;
27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption. (Hadēs g86)
Car tu ne laisseras pas mon âme dans la Demeure-des-morts; Et tu ne permettras pas que ton Saint voie la corruption; (Hadēs g86)
28 Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.
Tu m'as fait connaître les sentiers de la vie, Tu me rempliras de joie par ta présence.»
29 Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.
«Mes frères, permettez-moi de vous dire en toute liberté que, lui, le patriarche David, est mort, qu'il a été enseveli, que son tombeau est encore aujourd'hui au milieu de nous.
30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set [one] upon his throne;
Mais il était prophète, il savait que Dieu lui avait juré, sous la foi du serment, qu'un de ses descendants occuperait son trône;
31 he foreseeing [this] spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left in Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. (Hadēs g86)
c'est donc la résurrection du Christ qu'il a prévue et annoncée, disant: «Il n'a pas été laissé au séjour des morts Et son corps n'a pas vu la corruption.» (Hadēs g86)
32 This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.
«Eh bien, ce Christ, c'est le Jésus que Dieu a ressuscité et nous en sommes tous témoins.
33 Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.
Puis il a été élevé à la droite de Dieu, il a reçu du Père la promesse de l'Esprit saint, et alors il l'a répandu comme vous le voyez et l'entendez.
34 For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
David, lui, n'est pas monté au ciel, il dit même: «Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur Assieds-toi à ma droite
35 Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.
Jusqu'à ce que je te donne tes ennemis pour marchepied. »
36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.
«Sois donc bien convaincue, maison d'Israël tout entière, que Dieu a fait Seigneur et Christ ce Jésus que vous, vous avez crucifié.»
37 Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?
Touchés jusqu'au fond du coeur par ces paroles, ils dirent à Pierre et aux autres apôtres: «Frères, que devons-nous faire?»
38 And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Et alors Pierre: «Repentez-vous; que chacun de vous se fasse baptiser au nom de Jésus-Christ pour la rémission de ses péchés, et vous recevrez le don du saint Esprit,
39 For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.
car la promesse est pour vous, pour vos enfants, pour tous ceux qui sont au loin en aussi grand nombre que le Seigneur notre Dieu les appellera.»
40 And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation.
Il les conjurait par beaucoup d'autres paroles encore, et il les exhortait en disant: «Échappez à cette génération perverse!»
41 They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added [unto them] in that day about three thousand souls.
Ceux donc qui accueillirent sa prédication reçurent le baptême, et, ce jour-là, trois mille âmes environ furent admises.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Ils étaient assidus à suivre l'enseignement des apôtres et à vivre en communion fraternelle quand ils rompaient le pain et quand ils priaient.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
Ils étaient respectés de tout le monde; les apôtres faisaient en grand nombre des prodiges et des miracles,
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
et tous les croyants vivaient ensemble. Ils mettaient tout en commun;
45 and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need.
ils vendaient leurs propriétés et leurs biens, et en partageaient le produit entre tous, en proportion des besoins de chacun.
46 And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they did take their food with gladness and singleness of heart,
Tous ensemble, chaque jour, étaient assidus au Temple et, dans leur maison, ils rompaient le pain, ils prenaient leurs repas d'un coeur pur et joyeux,
47 praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were being saved.
louant Dieu et se faisant aimer de tout le peuple. Le Seigneur ajoutait chaque jour à l'église ceux qui étaient sauvés.
