2 Chronicles 18

1 Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance; and he joined affinity with Ahab.

ORA Giosafat, avendo di gran ricchezze e gloria, s'imparentò con Achab,

2 And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that were with him, and moved him to go up [with him] to Ramoth-gilead.

e in capo di [alquanti] anni egli andò ad Achab in Samaria. Ed Achab fece ammazzar pecore e buoi, in grandissimo numero, per lui, e per la gente ch'[era] con lui; e l'indusse ad andar contro a Ramot di Galaad.

3 And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramoth-gilead? And he answered him, I am as thou art, and my people as thy people; and [we will be] with thee in the war.

Ed Achab, re d'Israele, disse a Giosafat, re di Giuda: Andrai tu meco [contro a] Ramot di Galaad? Ed egli gli disse: [Fa' conto di] me come di te, e della mia gente come della tua; [noi saremo] teco in questa guerra.

4 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel; Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD today.

Poi Giosafat disse al re d'Israele: Deh! domanda oggi la parola del Signore.

5 When the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

E il re d'Israele adunò i profeti, [in numero di] quattrocent'uomini, e disse loro: Andremo noi alla guerra contro a Ramot di Galaad, o me ne rimarrò io? Ed essi dissero: Va'; perciocchè Iddio [la] darà nelle mani del re.

6 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here besides a prophet of the LORD, that we might inquire of him?

Ma Giosafat disse: Non [evvi] qui più alcun profeta del Signore, il quale domandiamo?

7 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesieth good concerning me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

E il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: [Ei vi è bene] ancora un uomo, per lo quale potremmo domandare il Signore; ma io l'odio; perciocchè egli non mi profetizza giammai in bene, ma sempre in male; egli [è] Mica, figliuolo d'Imla. E Giosafat disse: Il re non dica così.

8 Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.

Allora il re d'Israele chiamò un eunuco, e gli disse: Fa' prestamente venir Mica, figliuolo di Imla.

9 Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they sat in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

Or il re d'Israele, e Giosafat, re di Giuda, sedevano ciascuno sopra il suo seggio, vestiti di vestimenti [reali], nell'aia [ch'è] all'entrata della porta di Samaria; e tutti i profeti profetizzavano in presenza loro.

10 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these shalt thou push the Syrians, until they be consumed.

E Sedechia, figliuolo di Chenaana, si avea fatte delle corna di ferro, e disse: Così ha detto il Signore: Con queste [corna] tu cozzerai i Sirii, finchè tu li abbi distrutti.

11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

E tutti quei profeti profetizzavano in quella stessa maniera, dicendo: Sali [contro a] Ramot di Galaad, e tu prospererai; e il Signore [la] darà nelle mani del re.

12 And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets [declare] good to the king with one mouth: let thy word, therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.

Or il messo ch'era andato a chiamar Mica, gli parlò, dicendo: Ecco, le parole de' profeti, [come] d'una medesima bocca, [predicono] del bene al re; deh! sia dunque il tuo parlare conforme al [parlare] dell'uno di essi, predici[gli] del bene.

13 And Micaiah said, As the LORD liveth, what my God saith, that will I speak.

Ma Mica disse: [Come] il Signore vive, io dirò ciò che l'Iddio mio [mi] avrà detto.

14 And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper; and they shall be delivered into your hand.

Egli adunque venne al re. E il re gli disse: Mica, andremo noi alla guerra contro a Ramot di Galaad, o me ne rimarrò io? Ed egli gli disse: Andate pure, e voi prospererete, ed essi vi saranno dati nelle mani.

15 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou speak unto me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?

E il re gli disse: Fino a quante volte ti scongiurerò io, che tu non mi dica altro che la verità nel Nome del Signore?

16 And he said, I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return every man to his house in peace.

Allora egli disse: Io vedeva tutto Israele sparso su per li monti, come pecore che non hanno pastore. E il Signore diceva: Costoro [son] senza signore; ritornisene ciascuno a casa sua in pace.

17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?

E il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: Non ti dissi io ch'egli non mi profetizzerebbe bene alcuno, anzi del male?

18 And he said, Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.

E [Mica] disse: Perciò, ascoltate la parola del Signore: Io vedeva il Signore assiso sopra il suo trono, e tutto l'esercito del cielo, che gli stava appresso a destra ed a sinistra.

19 And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.

E il Signore diceva: Chi indurrà Achab, re d'Israele, acciocchè salga contro a Ramot di Galaad, e vi muoia? Poi [Mica] disse: L'uno diceva in una maniera, e l'altro in un'altra.

20 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?

Allora uno spirito uscì fuori, e si presentò davanti al Signore, e disse: Io ce l'indurrò. E il Signore gli disse: Come?

21 And he said, I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Ed egli disse: Io uscirò fuori, e sarò spirito di menzogna nella bocca di tutti i suoi profeti. E [il Signore] disse: [Sì], tu [l]'indurrai, ed anche ne verrai a capo; esci pur fuori, e fa' così.

22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets; and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Ora dunque, ecco, il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna nella bocca di questi tuoi profeti; ma il Signore ha pronunziato del male contro a te.

23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Allora Sedechia, figliuolo di Chenaana, si fece avanti, e percosse Mica in su la guancia, e disse: Per qual via si [è] partito lo Spirito del Signore da me, per parlar teco?

24 And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day, when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

E Mica disse: Ecco, tu [il] vedrai al giorno che tu te n'entrerai di camera in camera, per appiattarti.

25 And the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

E il re d'Israele disse: Pigliate Mica, e menatelo ad Amon, capitano della città, ed a Gioas, figliuolo del re.

26 and say, Thus saith the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

E dite [loro: ] Così ha detto il re: Mettete costui in prigione, e cibatelo di pane e d'acqua, strettamente, finchè io ritorni in pace.

27 And Micaiah said, If thou return at all in peace, the LORD hath not spoken by me. And he said, Hear, ye peoples, all of you.

E Mica disse: Se pur tu ritorni in pace, il Signore non avrà parlato per me. Poi disse: Voi popoli tutti, ascoltate.

28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth-gilead.

Il re d'Israele adunque, e Giosafat, re di Giuda, salirono contro a Ramot di Galaad.

29 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.

E il re d'Israele disse a Giosafat: Io mi travestirò, e [così] entrerò nella battaglia; ma tu, vestiti delle tue vesti. Il re d'Israele adunque si travestì, e [così] entrarono nella battaglia.

30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel.

Or il re di Siria avea comandato ai capitani de' suoi carri, che non combattessero contro a piccolo, nè contro a grande; me contro al re d'Israele solo.

31 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they turned about to fight against him: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them [to depart] from him.

Perciò, quando i capitani de' carri ebber veduto Giosafat, dissero: Egli [è] il re d'Israele; e si voltarono a lui, per combattere [contro a lui]; ma Giosafat gridò, e il Signore l'aiutò, e Iddio indusse coloro [a ritrarsi] da lui.

32 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him.

Quando dunque i capitani de' carri ebber veduto ch'egli non era il re d'Israele, si rivolsero indietro da lui.

33 And a certain man drew his bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said to the driver of the chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am sore wounded.

Allora qualcuno tirò con l'arco a caso, e ferì il re d'Israele fra le falde e la corazza; laonde egli disse al [suo] carrettiere: Volta la mano, e menami fuor del campo; perciocchè io son ferito.

34 And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the going down of the sun he died.

Ma la battaglia si rinforzò in quel dì, onde il re d'Israele si rattenne nel carro incontro a' Siri, fino alla sera; e nell'ora del tramontar del sole morì.
