2 Chronicles 17

1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

Sein Sohn Josaphat ward an seiner Statt König. Er aber ward Israel überlegen.

2 And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

Er legte nämlich in alle festen Städte Judas Mannschaften. Er legte auch Besatzungen in das Land von Juda und in Ephraims Städte, die sein Vater Asa erobert hatte.

3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto the Baalim;

Und der Herr war mit Josaphat. Denn er wandelte auf seines Vaters früheren Pfaden. Er suchte die Baale nicht auf,

4 but sought to the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

sondern den Gott seines Vaters. So wandelte er nach seinen Geboten und nicht nach Israels Tun.

5 Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

Daher ließ der Herr unter seiner Hand das Königtum erstarken, und ganz Juda gab Josaphat Geschenke. So hatte er Reichtum und Ehre in Fülle.

6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: and furthermore he took away the high places and the Asherim out of Judah.

Und sein Herz ward mutig auf des Herrn Wegen. Er beseitigte auch noch die Höhen und die Ascheren aus Juda.

7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent his princes, even Ben-hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah;

Im dritten Regierungsjahr sandte er seine Obersten Benchail, Obadja, Zakarja, Netanel und Mikajahu aus, in Judas Städten zu lehren,

8 and with them the Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

mit ihnen die Leviten Semajahu, Netanjahu, Zebadjahu, Asael, Semiramot, Jonatan, Adonijahu und Tobijahu und die Leviten Tob und Adonia und mit diesen die Priester Elisama und Joram.

9 And they taught in Judah, having the book of the law of the LORD with them; and they went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught among the people.

Sie lehrten in Juda. Dabei hatten sie das Buch der Lehre des Herrn bei sich. Sie zogen in allen Städten Judas umher und lehrten unter dem Volke.

10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

Des Herrn Schrecken aber fiel auf alle Reiche der Länder rings um Juda. Und so stritten sie nicht mit Josaphat.

11 And some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and silver for tribute; the Arabians also brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he-goats.

Auch von den Philistern brachten etliche Josaphat Geschenke und eine Last Silber. Auch die Araber brachten ihm an Schafen 7.700 Widder und 7.700 Böcke.

12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles and cities of store.

So ward Josaphat immer mächtiger. Er baute in Juda Burgen und Vorratsstädte.

13 And he had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valour, in Jerusalem.

In den Städten Judas besaß er gewaltige Vorräte und in Jerusalem tapfere Kriegsleute.

14 And this was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the captain, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand:

Dies war ihre Amtsordnung nach ihren Familien: Zu Juda gehörten als Oberste von Tausendschaften Adna, der Oberste. Bei ihm waren 300.000 tapfere Leute.

15 and next to him Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand:

Neben ihm war Jochanan Oberster mit 280.000.

16 and next to him Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour:

Neben ihm Amasja, Zikris Sohn, der sich freiwillig dem Herrn geweiht hatte, mit 200.000 tapferen Leuten.

17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bow and shield:

Zu Benjamin gehörte der tapfere Krieger Eljada mit 200.000 Leuten, mit Bogen und Schild gerüstet.

18 and next to him Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for war.

Neben ihm war Jozabad mit 180.000 Kriegsgerüsteten.

19 These were they that waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

Diese waren es, die dem König dienten, außer denen, die der König in die festen Städte in ganz Juda gelegt hatte.
