1 Samuel 4
1 And the word of Samuel came to all Israel. Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle, and pitched beside Eben-ezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek.
੧ਸਮੂਏਲ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲ ਗਈ। ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਲੜਨ ਨੂੰ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਬੇਨੇਜ਼ਰ ਜਗਾ ਦੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਤੰਬੂ ਲਾਏ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅਫੇਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੰਬੂ ਲਾਏ।
2 And the Philistines put themselves in array against Israel: and when they joined battle, Israel was smitten before the Philistines: and they slew of the army in the field about four thousand men.
੨ਤਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਮਣਾ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਤਾਰ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਦੋਂ ਲੜਾਈ ਵੱਧ ਗਈ ਤਾਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੀ, ਚਾਰ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਦੇ ਲੱਗਭੱਗ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਵੱਢ ਸੁੱਟੇ।
3 And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us today before the Philistines? Let as fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that it may come among us, and save us out of the hand of our enemies.
੩ਜਦ ਲੋਕ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁੜ ਆਏ ਤਾਂ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਬਜ਼ੁਰਗਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਅੱਜ ਹਾਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਦਿੱਤੀ? ਆਓ, ਅਸੀਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਸ਼ੀਲੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਈਏ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਛੁਡਾਵੇ।
4 So the people sent to Shiloh, and they brought from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which sitteth upon the cherubim: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.
੪ਸੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੀਲੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋਕ ਭੇਜੇ ਜੋ ਸੈਨਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਨੂੰ, ਜੋ ਦੋ ਕਰੂਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਹੈ, ਉੱਥੋਂ ਲੈ ਆਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਏਲੀ ਦੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਫ਼ਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੀਨਹਾਸ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਨੇਮ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਕੋਲ ਉੱਥੇ ਸਨ।
5 And when the ark of the covenant of the LORD came into the camp, all Israel shouted with a great shout, so that the earth rang again.
੫ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਪਹੁੰਚਿਆ ਤਦ ਸਾਰੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਨਾਲ ਜੈਕਾਰਾ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ, ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਧਰਤੀ ਕੰਬ ਉੱਠੀ।
6 And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shout, they said, What meaneth the noise of this great shout in the camp of the Hebrews? And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.
੬ਜਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜੈਕਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਬੋਲੇ, ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਬਰਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਜੈਕਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਹੈ? ਫੇਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਨੇਮ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
7 And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.
੭ਤਦ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਡਰ ਗਏ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਛਾਉਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ! ਅਤੇ ਬੋਲੇ, ਸਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਹਾਏ! ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅੱਜ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈ।
8 Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty gods? these are the gods that smote the Egyptians with all manner of plagues in the wilderness.
੮ਹਾਏ! ਅਜਿਹੇ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਕੌਣ ਬਚਾਵੇਗਾ? ਇਹ ਉਹ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਿਸਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਜਾੜ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਭ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਬਵਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ।
9 Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.
੯ਹੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਓ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਤਕੜੇ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਮਰਦ ਬਣੋ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਬਰਾਨੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਨਾ ਬਣੋ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਗ਼ੁਲਾਮ ਬਣੇ ਸਨ, ਸਗੋਂ ਮਰਦ ਬਣੋ ਅਤੇ ਲੜੋ!
10 And the Philistines fought, and Israel was smitten, and they fled every man to his tent: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen.
੧੦ਸੋ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀ ਲੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੰਬੂਆਂ ਵੱਲ ਨੱਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਉੱਥੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੜਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੀਹ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ,
11 And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were slain.
੧੧ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਏਲੀ ਦੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਫ਼ਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੀਨਹਾਸ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ।
12 And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.
੧੨ਤਦ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਨੱਠਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾੜੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਪਾਈ ਹੋਈ ਉਸੇ ਦਿਨ ਸ਼ੀਲੋਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ।
13 And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon his seat by the way side watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.
੧੩ਜਦ ਉਹ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਖੋ, ਏਲੀ ਸੜਕ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਇੱਕ ਚੌਂਕੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਰਾਹ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਕੰਬਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਆ ਕੇ ਸੁਨੇਹਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਰੋਣ-ਪਿੱਟਣ ਲੱਗਾ।
14 And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man hasted and came and told Eli.
੧੪ਜਦ ਵਿਰਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਅਵਾਜ਼ ਏਲੀ ਨੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਹ ਕਿਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਰੌਲ਼ਾ ਪੈ ਗਿਆ? ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਛੇਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਏਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਣ ਕੇ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ।
15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were set, that he could not see.
੧੫ਏਲੀ ਅਠਾਨਵਿਆਂ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦਾ ਬੁੱਢਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਅੱਖੀਆਂ ਧੁੰਦਲੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਗਈਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕੁਝ ਦਿਖਾਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ।
16 And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled today out of the army. And he said, How went the matter, my son?
੧੬ਸੋ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਏਲੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਤੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਅੱਜ ਫ਼ੌਜ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਭੱਜ ਕੇ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਕੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਹੈ?
17 And he that brought the tidings answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.
੧੭ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਲਿਸਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਹਾਰ ਖਾਧੀ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਡੀ ਵਾਢ ਹੋਈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹਾਫ਼ਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ੀਨਹਾਸ ਮਾਰੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਿਆ।
18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off his seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
੧੮ਤਦ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਚੌਂਕੀ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਪਿੱਠ ਭਾਰ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਕੋਲ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ, ਉਹ ਦੀ ਧੌਣ ਟੁੱਟ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਵੱਡੀ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਾ ਵੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਚਾਲ੍ਹੀ ਸਾਲ ਤੱਕ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਨਿਆਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ।
19 And his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and brought forth; for her pains came upon her.
੧੯ਉਸ ਦੀ ਨੂੰਹ ਫ਼ੀਨਹਾਸ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਗਰਭਵਤੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਜਣਨ ਦਾ ਵੇਲਾ ਨੇੜੇ ਸੀ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਸੁਣੀਆਂ ਕਿ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਹੁਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਮਰ ਗਏ ਹਨ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਜਣਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਪੀੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੱਗੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ।
20 And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast brought forth a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.
੨੦ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਸਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਉੱਥੇ ਸਨ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਡਰ ਨਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸਗੋਂ ਧਿਆਨ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ।
21 And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.
੨੧ਉਹ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਮੁੰਡੇ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਈਕਾਬੋਦ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ, ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਖੁੱਸ ਜੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸਹੁਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਵੀ।
22 And she said, The glory is departed from Israel; for the ark of God is taken.
੨੨ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਬੋਲੀ, ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦਾ ਸੰਦੂਕ ਖੋਹ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।
