1 Kings 12
1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
૧રહાબામ શખેમ ગયો, કેમ કે તમામ ઇઝરાયલીઓ તેને રાજા બનાવવા માટે શખેમ આવ્યા હતા.
2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it, (for he was yet in Egypt, wither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt,
૨નબાટના દીકરા યરોબામે એ સાંભળ્યું, પછી તે હજી મિસરમાં હતો, તે સુલેમાન રાજાની હજૂરમાંથી ત્યાં નાસી ગયો હતો. પછી યરોબામ મિસરમાં રહેતો હતો.
3 and they sent and called him; ) that Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,
૩તેથી તેઓએ માણસ મોકલીને તેને બોલાવડાવ્યો. અને યરોબામે તથા ઇઝરાયલની સમગ્ર પ્રજાએ આવીને રહાબામને કહ્યું,
4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
૪“તારા પિતાએ અમારા પરની ઝૂંસરી ભારે કરી હતી. હવે પછી તારા પિતા અમારી પાસે સખત ગુલામી કરાવે છે તે બંધ કરાવ તથા અમારા પર તેણે મૂકેલી તેની ભારે ઝૂંસરી તું હલકી કરાવ, તો અમે તારે પક્ષે રહીને તારી સેવા કરીશું.”
5 And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
૫રહાબામે તેઓને કહ્યું, “અહીંથી ત્રણ દિવસ માટે ચાલ્યા જાઓ; પછી મારી પાસે પાછા આવજો.” એટલે તે લોકો ગયા.
6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
૬રહાબામ રાજાએ પોતાના પિતા સુલેમાનની હયાતીમાં, તેની આગળ જે વૃદ્ધ પુરુષો ઊભા હતા તેઓનું માર્ગદર્શન માગ્યું કે, “આ લોકોને જવાબ આપવા માટે તમે શી સલાહ આપો છો?”
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.
૭તેઓએ તેને કહ્યું, “જો તું આજે આ લોકોનો સેવક થઈશ, તેઓની સેવા કરીશ, તેઓને જવાબ આપીશ અને તેઓને ઉત્તમ વચનો કહીશ, તો તેઓ સદા તારા સેવકો થઈને રહેશે.”
8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with him, that stood before him.
૮પણ રહાબામે વૃદ્ધ પુરુષોની આપેલી સલાહનો ઇનકાર કર્યો. અને જે યુવાનો તેની સાથે મોટા થયા હતા, જે તેની હજૂરમાં ઊભા રહેતા હતા, તેઓની સલાહ પૂછી.
9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?
૯તેણે તેઓને પૂછ્યું, “આ જે લોકોએ મને કહ્યું છે કે, ‘તારા પિતાએ અમારી પર મૂકેલી ઝૂંસરી તું હલકી કર.’ તેઓને આપણે શો જવાબ આપીએ? તમે શો અભિપ્રાય આપો છો?”
10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou say unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou speak unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.
૧૦જે જુવાન પુરુષો રહાબામ સાથે મોટા થયા હતા તેઓએ તેને કહ્યું કે, “આ જે લોકોએ તમને કહ્યું હતું કે તારા પિતાએ અમારા પરની ઝૂંસરી ભારે કરી હતી, પણ તું તે અમારા પરની ઝૂંસરીને હલકી કર. તેઓને તારે એમ કહેવું, ‘મારી ટચલી આંગળી મારા પિતાની કમર કરતાં જાડી છે.
11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
૧૧તો હવે, મારા પિતાએ તમારા પર ભારે ઝૂંસરી મૂકી, તે તમારા પરની ઝૂંસરી હું વધુ ભારે કરીશ. મારા પિતાએ તમને ચાબુકથી શિક્ષા કરી, પણ હું તમને વીંછીઓથી શિક્ષા કરીશ.’”
12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come to me again the third day.
૧૨રાજાએ ફરમાવેલું, “ત્રીજે દિવસે મારી પાસે પાછા આવજો.” તે પ્રમાણે યરોબામ તથા સર્વ લોકો ત્રીજે દિવસે રહાબામ પાસે આવ્યા.
13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him;
૧૩રાજાએ તેઓને તોછડાઈથી જવાબ આપ્યો અને વૃદ્ધ પુરુષોએ તેને જે સલાહ આપી હતી તેનો ઇનકાર કર્યો.
14 and spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions;
૧૪તેણે જુવાન પુરુષોની સલાહ પ્રમાણે તેઓને કહ્યું, “મારા પિતાએ તમારી ઝૂંસરી ભારે કરી, પણ હું તો તમારી ઝૂંસરી વધારે ભારે કરીશ. મારા પિતા તમને ચાબુકથી શિક્ષા કરતા, પણ હું તો તમને વીંછીઓથી શિક્ષા કરીશ.”
15 So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was a thing brought about of the LORD, that he might establish his word, which the LORD spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
૧૫રાજાએ લોકોનું કહેવું સાંભળ્યું નહિ. કેમ કે એ બનાવ યહોવાહ તરફથી બન્યો, કે જેથી યહોવાહે પોતાનું જે વચન શીલોની અહિયાની મારફતે નબાટના દીકરા યરોબામને આપ્યું હતું તે તે સ્થાપિત કરે.
16 And when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.
૧૬જયારે સર્વ ઇઝરાયલે જોયું કે રાજા તેઓનું સાંભળતો નથી, ત્યારે લોકોએ રાજાને જવાબ આપ્યો, “દાઉદમાં અમારો શો ભાગ? યિશાઈના પુત્રમાં અમારો વારસો નથી! ઓ ઇઝરાયલ, તમે તમારા તંબુમાં પાછા જાઓ. હવે હે દાઉદ તું તારું ઘર સંભાળી લે.” તેથી ઇઝરાયલ લોકો પોતપોતાના તંબુએ ગયા.
17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
૧૭પણ યહૂદિયાનાં નગરોમાં રહેતા ઇઝરાયલી લોકો પર રહાબામે રાજ કર્યું.
18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the levy; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
૧૮પછી અદોરામ જે લશ્કરી મજૂરોનો ઉપરી હતો, તેને રહાબામ રાજાએ મોકલ્યો, પણ સર્વ ઇઝરાયલે તેને પથ્થરે એવો માર્યો કે તે મરણ પામ્યો. રહાબામ રાજા યરુશાલેમ નાસી જવા માટે ઉતાવળથી પોતાના રથ પર ચઢી ગયો.
19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David, unto this day.
૧૯તેથી ઇઝરાયલે દાઉદના કુટુંબની વિરુદ્ધ આજ સુધી બંડ કરેલું છે.
20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
૨૦જયારે સર્વ ઇઝરાયલે સાંભળ્યું કે યરોબામ પાછો આવ્યો છે, ત્યારે તેઓએ માણસ મોકલીને તેને સભામાં બોલાવ્યો અને તેને સર્વ ઇઝરાયલ પર રાજા ઠરાવ્યો. એકલા યહૂદાના કુળ સિવાય, ત્યાં દાઉદના કુટુંબનું અનુસરણ કરવા કોઈ રહ્યું નહિ.
21 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
૨૧જયારે સુલેમાનનો દીકરો રહાબામ યરુશાલેમ આવ્યો ત્યારે તેણે રાજ્ય પાછું મેળવવા માટે ઇઝરાયલના કુળોની વિરુદ્ધ યુદ્ધ કરવા સારુ યહૂદાના આખા કુળના તથા બિન્યામીનના કુળના એક લાખ એંશી હજાર ચૂંટી કાઢેલા લડવૈયાઓને પોતાને પક્ષે એકત્ર કર્યા.
22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
૨૨પણ ઈશ્વરનું વચન ઈશ્વરભક્ત શમાયા પાસે આ પ્રમાણે આવ્યું;
23 Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,
૨૩“યહૂદિયાના રાજા સુલેમાનના દીકરા રહાબામને, યહૂદા તથા બિન્યામીનના આખા ઘરનાંને તથા બાકીના લોકોને એમ કહે કે,
24 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the word of the LORD, and returned and went their way, according to the word of the LORD.
૨૪‘યહોવાહ આમ કહે છે: તમે હુમલો ન કરશો, તેમ જ તમારા ભાઈ ઇઝરાયલી લોકોની વિરુદ્ધ યુદ્ધ ન કરશો. સર્વ માણસો પોતપોતાને ઘરે પાછા જાઓ, કેમ કે એ બાબત મારા તરફથી બની છે.’ માટે તેઓ યહોવાહનો વચન સાંભળીને તેમના કહેવા પ્રમાણે પોતપોતાને માર્ગે પાછા વળ્યા.
25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and he went out from thence, and built Penuel.
૨૫પછી યરોબામે એફ્રાઇમના પહાડી પ્રદેશમાં શખેમ બાંધ્યું અને તે ત્યાં રહ્યો. ત્યાંથી રવાના થઈને તેણે પનુએલ બાંધ્યું.
26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:
૨૬યરોબામે પોતાના મનમાં વિચાર કર્યો, “હવે રાજ્ય દાઉદના કુટુંબને પાછું મળશે.
27 if this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah; and they shall kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.
૨૭જો આ લોકો યરુશાલેમમાં યહોવાહના ભક્તિસ્થાનમાં યજ્ઞ કરવા માટે જશે, તો આ લોકોનું મન તેમના માલિક તરફ એટલે યહૂદિયાના રાજા રહાબામ તરફ પાછું ફરી જશે. તેઓ મને મારી નાખશે અને યહૂદિયાના રાજા રહાબામ પાસે પાછા જતા રહેશે.”
28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.
૨૮તેથી રાજાએ સલાહ લઈને સોનાના બે વાછરડા બનાવ્યા અને યરોબામે તેઓને કહ્યું, “યરુશાલેમમાં જવું તમને ઘણું મુશ્કેલ થઈ પડે છે. હે ઇઝરાયલીઓ જુઓ, આ રહ્યા તમારા દેવો કે જે તમને મિસર દેશમાંથી બહાર લઈ આવ્યા હતા.”
29 And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.
૨૯તેણે એક વાછરડાને બેથેલમાં સ્થાપ્યો અને બીજાની સ્થાપના દાનમાં કરી.
30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went [to worship] before the one, even unto Dan.
૩૦તેથી આ કાર્ય પાપરૂપ થઈ પડ્યું. લોકો બેમાંથી એકની પૂજા કરવા માટે દાન સુધી જતા હતા.
31 And he made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.
૩૧યરોબામે ઉચ્ચસ્થાનોનાં પૂજાસ્થાનો બંધાવ્યાં; તેણે લેવીપુત્રોમાંના નહિ એવા બાકીના લોકોમાંથી યાજકો ઠરાવ્યાં.
32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he went up unto the altar; so did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places which he had made.
૩૨યરોબામે આઠમા માસની પંદરમી તારીખે, જે પર્વ યહૂદિયામાં પળાતું હતું તેના જેવું પર્વ ઠરાવ્યું, તેણે વેદી પર બલિદાનો ચઢાવ્યાં. તે જ પ્રમાણે તેણે બેથેલમાં કર્યું. અને પોતાના બનાવેલા વાછરડાઓનાં બલિદાનો આપ્યાં. ઉચ્ચસ્થાનોના જે યાજકો તેણે ઠરાવ્યાં હતા, તેઓને તેણે બેથેલમાં રાખ્યા.
33 And he went up unto the altar which he had made in Beth-el on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up unto the altar, to burn incense.
૩૩જે વેદી યરોબામે બેથેલમાં બનાવી હતી તેની પાસે આઠમા માસમાં, એટલે પોતાના પસંદ કરેલા માસ પંદરમી તારીખે તે ગયો અને ઇઝરાયલી લોકોને માટે તેણે પર્વ ઠરાવ્યું અને ધૂપ બાળવા માટે તે વેદી પાસે ગયો.
