1 Corinthians 8
1 Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
Iar despre lucrurile sacrificate idolilor, știm că toți avem cunoaștere. Cunoașterea îngâmfă, dar dragostea creștină edifică.
2 If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;
Și dacă cineva gândește că știe ceva, încă nu știe nimic așa cum ar trebui să știe.
3 but if any man loveth God, the same is known of him.
Dar dacă cineva îl iubește pe Dumnezeu, acesta este cunoscut de el.
4 Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is [anything] in the world, and that there is no God but one.
De aceea cât despre a mânca lucrurile sacrificate idolilor, știm că un idol nu este nimic în lume și că nu este alt Dumnezeu decât numai unul singur.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;
Căci chiar dacă sunt așa numiți dumnezei, fie în cer, fie pe pământ (așa cum sunt mulți dumnezei și mulți domni),
6 yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
Totuși pentru noi este un singur Dumnezeu Tatăl, din care sunt toate, și noi în el; și un singur Domn Isus Cristos, prin care sunt toate, și noi prin el.
7 Howbeit in all men there is not that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as [of] a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
Însă nu este în fiecare om acea cunoaștere, fiindcă unii, conștientizând idolul până la această oră, mănâncă aceasta ca ceva sacrificat unui idol; și conștiința lor, fiind slabă, este întinată.
8 But meat will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
Dar mâncarea nu ne recomandă lui Dumnezeu; fiindcă nici dacă mâncăm, nu suntem mai buni, nici dacă nu mâncăm, nu suntem mai răi.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.
Dar luați seama ca nu cumva în vreun fel această libertate a voastră să devină o piatră de cădere celor slabi.
10 For if a man see thee which hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
Căci dacă cineva te vede pe tine, care ai cunoaștere, șezând la masă în templul idolului, nu va fi încurajată conștiința lui, fiind slabă, să mănânce acele lucruri sacrificate idolilor?
11 For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
Și să piară prin cunoașterea ta fratele slab, pentru care a murit Cristos?
12 And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.
Dar când păcătuiți astfel împotriva fraților și răniți conștiința lor slabă, păcătuiți împotriva lui Cristos.
13 Wherefore, if meat maketh my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I make not my brother to stumble. (aiōn g165)
De aceea dacă o mâncare face pe fratele meu să se poticnească, nu voi mânca niciodată carne, cât va rămânea lumea, ca nu cumva să fac pe fratele meu să se poticnească. (aiōn g165)
