1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.
Quand je parlerais toutes les langues des hommes, quand je parlerais même toutes celles des anges, si je n'ai point l'amour, je ne suis qu'un airain sonnant ou une cymbale retentissante.
2 And if I have [the gift of] prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Quand j'aurais le don de prophétie, quand je connaîtrais tous les mystères, quand je posséderais toute science, quand j'aurais la foi parfaite pour transporter les montagnes, si je n'ai pas l'amour, je ne suis rien!
3 And if I bestow all my goods to feed [the poor], and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.
Je distribuerais tous mes biens, je livrerais mon corps aux flammes, si je n'ai pas l'amour, cela ne me sert de rien!
4 Love suffereth long, [and] is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
L'amour est patient; l'amour est bienveillant; l'amour ne connaît ni l'envie, ni la présomption, ni l'enflure;
5 doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;
il n'est pas malhonnête; il n'est pas égoïste; il ne s'irrite pas; il ne pense pas à mal;
6 rejoiceth not in unrighteousness, but rejoiceth with the truth;
il ne se plaît pas à l'injustice; il se plaît au contraire à la vérité;
7 beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
il souffre tout; il croit tout; il espère tout; il supporte tout.
8 Love never faileth: but whether [there be] prophecies, they shall be done away; whether [there be] tongues, they shall cease; whether [there be] knowledge, it shall be done away.
L'amour n'a pas de décadence. Les prophéties? elles disparaîtront; les langues? elles cesseront; la science? elle disparaîtra;
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part:
car notre science est limitée et notre don de prophétie est limité,
10 but when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away.
et quand le parfait viendra, ce qui est limité disparaîtra.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things.
Lorsque j'étais enfant, je parlais comme un enfant, je pensais comme un enfant, je raisonnais comme un enfant; quand je suis devenu homme, j'ai laissé là les façons de l'enfant.
12 For now we see in a mirror, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I have been known.
Aujourd'hui, nous voyons au moyen d'un miroir, confusément; alors, nous verrons face à face. Aujourd'hui, ma science est limitée; alors, je connaîtrai comme j'aurai été connu.
13 But now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
En somme, il reste la foi, l'espérance, l'amour, trois grandes choses: mais la plus grande des trois est l'amour;
