< Romans 3 >
1 What is the advantage, then, of being a Jew? Or what is the good of circumcision?
We jeriꞌ, ¿jas kꞌu kuchꞌek jun we aj Israel? O ¿jas kutayij ri etal?
2 Great in every way. First of all, because the Jews were entrusted with God’s utterances.
Nim kuchꞌek jun, jeriꞌ rumal cher nabꞌe xyaꞌtaj ri utzij ri Dios chike ri winaq aꞌj Israel.
3 What follows then? Some, no doubt, showed a want of faith; but will their want of faith make God break faith? Heaven forbid!
Jas kꞌu kakꞌulmataj riꞌ we jun chike we winaq riꞌ maj ukojobꞌal ¿la kakwin kꞌu riꞌ ri man kakojon taj kꞌuꞌx kubꞌan che ri Dios chi man kubꞌan ta chik ri ubꞌim loq?
4 God must prove true, though everyone prove a liar! As scripture says of God – ‘That you may be pronounced righteous in what you say, and gain your cause when people would judge you.’
¡Man jeꞌ ta riꞌ! Ri Dios tzi kubꞌan wi ri ubꞌim loq pune bꞌanal tzij ri achi. Jetaq kubꞌij ri tzꞌibꞌatalik: Kabꞌantaj na sukꞌ chawe rukꞌ ri kabꞌij, xuqujeꞌ katchꞌeken na are kaqꞌat tzij pa awiꞌ.
5 But what if our wrongdoing makes God’s righteousness all the clearer? Will God be wrong in inflicting punishment? (I can but speak as a person.) Heaven forbid!
We ri qetzelal kukꞌutu chi sukꞌ ri usukꞌal ri Dios, ¿jas kꞌu kaqabꞌij? ¿Xa man sukꞌ taj ri Dios rumal riꞌ kutix loq ri royawal pa qawiꞌ? (Je tajin kinchꞌaw winaq).
6 Otherwise how can God judge the world?
¡Man jeꞌ ta riꞌ! We ta jeriꞌ ¿jas kꞌu kubꞌan ri Dios chuqꞌatik tzij pa kiwiꞌ ri winaq ri e kꞌo cho ri uwachulew?
7 But, if my falsehood redounds to the glory of God, by making his truthfulness more apparent, why am I like others, still condemned as a sinner?
Wine kꞌo jun kubꞌij: we are ri nubꞌanoj tzij kaqꞌalajisan ri qas tzij re ri Dios xuqujeꞌ kanimarisan ri ujuluwem, ¿jas che kaqꞌat tzij pa nuwiꞌ kabꞌix chwe chi in ajmak?
8 Why should we not say – as some people slanderously assert that we do say – ‘Let us do evil that good may come’? The condemnation of such people is indeed just!
¿Jas kꞌu che makaqabꞌij qabꞌana ri etzelal rech jeriꞌ kape ri utzilal? E kꞌi kakibꞌan bꞌanoj tzij chaqij, kakibꞌij chi jeriꞌ tajin kaqakꞌutu. Qas kataqiꞌ kꞌu na kape ri kꞌaxal pa kiwiꞌ we winaq riꞌ.
9 What follows, then? Are we Jews in any way superior to others? Not at all. Our indictment against both Jews and Greeks was that all alike were in subjection to sin.
¿Jas kꞌu kaqabꞌij che we riꞌ? ¿La uj kꞌut uj aꞌj Israel uj jeꞌl chkiwach konojel? ¡Man jeꞌ ta riꞌ! Xqakꞌutu chi ri winaq aꞌj Israel xuqujeꞌ ri man aꞌj Israel taj e kꞌo chuxeꞌ ri makaj.
10 As scripture says – ‘There is not even one who is righteous,
Ri Tzꞌibꞌatalik kubꞌij: Man kꞌo taj jun sukꞌ laj winaq, xa ta ne jun.
11 not one who understands, not one who is searching for God!
Man kꞌo ta jun retaꞌm ubꞌanik ri sukꞌal, maj kꞌo ta jun ri kajawan ri riqoj ibꞌ rukꞌ ri Dios.
12 They have all gone astray; they have one and all become depraved; there is no one who is doing good – no, not one!’
Konojel xel kanoq pa ri bꞌe, konojel xuꞌxik winaq ri maj kakitayij, man kꞌo ta jun ri are karilij ubꞌanik ri utzilal; maj, xa ta ne jun.
13 ‘Their throats are like opened graves; they deceive with their tongues.’ ‘The venom of snakes lies behind their lips,’
Ri uqul ri winaq jaqalik je ri kꞌo jun muqbꞌal kaminaq, ri raqꞌ kukoj chubꞌanik bꞌanoj tzij. Ri uchiꞌ jeriꞌ kꞌo utyoꞌbꞌal kumatz.
14 ‘And their mouths are full of bitter curses.’
Nojinaq ri uchiꞌ che etzelal xuqujeꞌ yojtajinaqil.
15 ‘Swift are their feet to shed blood.
Kaxikꞌan ri raqan keꞌ chubꞌanik ri kamisanik.
16 Distress and trouble dog their steps,
Kutukij kan ronojel ri kꞌo pa ri ubꞌe xuqujeꞌ kubꞌan etzelal.
17 and the path of peace they do not know.’
Man ketaꞌm taj uwach ri bꞌe rech jaꞌmaril.
18 ‘The fear of God is not before their eyes.’
Man kumochꞌ taj ribꞌ cho ri Dios.
19 Now we know that everything said in the Law is addressed to those who are under its authority, in order that every mouth may be closed, and to bring the whole world under God’s judgment.
Kamik kꞌut qetaꞌm chi ronojel ri kubꞌij ri taqanik, kubꞌij chike konojel ri e kꞌo chuxeꞌ ri taqanik, rech jeriꞌ maj jun kachꞌawik xuqujeꞌ konojel ri winaq aꞌjuwachulew kekanaj chuxeꞌ ri uqꞌatoj tzij ri Dios.
20 For no human being will be pronounced righteous before God as the result of obedience to Law; for it is Law that shows what sin is.
Jeriꞌ rumal maj jun kabꞌantaj sukꞌ che cho ri Dios rumal ubꞌanik ri chak ri kubꞌij ri taqanik, xane qetaꞌm chi are ri taqanik kakꞌutuw chiqawach chi uj aꞌjmakibꞌ.
21 But now, quite apart from Law, the divine righteousness stands revealed, and to it the Law and the prophets bear witness –
Kamik kꞌut xukꞌut ribꞌ ri usukꞌal ri Dios, ri xpetik man rumal taj re ri taqanik, are waꞌ ri xkiqꞌalajisaj loq ri e qꞌalajisal taq utzij ri Dios xuqujeꞌ ri taqanik.
22 the divine righteousness which is bestowed, through faith in Jesus Christ, on all, without distinction, who believe in him.
We usukꞌal ri Dios riꞌ xpetik chike konojel ri kekojon che ri Jesucristo. Jeriꞌ rumal cher xaq e junam ri winaq ri aꞌj Israel kukꞌ ri man aꞌj Israel taj. Jeriꞌ rumal ri Dios man xaq ta kꞌyaqal ri keꞌraj.
23 For all have sinned, and all fall short of God’s glorious ideal,
Xa kꞌu rumal cher konojel xemakunik rumal riꞌ maj ke che ri ujuluwem ri Dios.
24 but, in his loving kindness, are being freely pronounced righteous through the deliverance found in Christ Jesus.
Pa ri utoqꞌobꞌ kꞌu ri Dios xubꞌan sukꞌ chiꞌwe man rukꞌ ta pwaq, xane xixutoro pa Cristo Jesús.
25 For God set him before the world, to be, by the shedding of his blood, a means of reconciliation through faith. And this God did to prove his righteousness, and because, in his forbearance, he had passed over the sins that people had previously committed;
Ri Dios xutzuj ri Jesucristo che sipanik chuchupik ronojel ri qamak, are waꞌ ri kaqakꞌamawaꞌj rukꞌ ri qakojobꞌal rumal ri ukikꞌel, rech jeriꞌ kukꞌut chiqawach ri usukꞌal rumal cher najtir chi kanoq ri Dios pa ri rutzilal xsachan kan che ri ojer taq makaj.
26 as a proof, I repeat, at the present time, of his own righteousness, that he might be righteous in our eyes, and might pronounce righteous the person who takes their stand on faith in Jesus.
Kamik kꞌut, ri Dios utzujum ri Jesucristo rech jeriꞌ kukꞌut ri usukꞌal. Rech jeriꞌ kilitajik chi sukꞌ ri Dios xuqujeꞌ are kabꞌanow sukꞌ chike ri kekojon che ri Jesús.
27 What, then, becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what sort of Law? A Law requiring obedience? No, a Law requiring faith.
¿Jawjeꞌ kꞌu kꞌo wi ri nimal? Maj chik ¿jas rumal? ¿La xa rumal ri taqanik? Man je ta riꞌ, xa rumal ri kojobꞌal.
28 For we conclude that a person is pronounced righteous on the ground of faith, quite apart from obedience to Law.
Kꞌisbꞌal rech kaqabꞌij chi ri achi kux sukꞌ man rumal ta ri chak ri kuta ri taqanik xane rumal ri kojobꞌal.
29 Or can it be that God is the God only of the Jews? Isn’t he also the God of the Gentiles?
Ri Dios, ¿la xaq xwi kꞌu kiDios ri winaq aꞌj Israel? ¿La man kꞌu kiDios xuqujeꞌ ri winaq ri man aꞌj Israel taj? Jeꞌ, jeriꞌ ri Dios kiDios xuqujeꞌ ri winaq ri man aꞌj Israel taj.
30 Yes, of the Gentiles also, since there is only one God, and he will pronounce those who are circumcised righteous as the result of faith, and also those who are uncircumcised on their showing the same faith.
Xa jun Dios kꞌolik. Are kabꞌanow sukꞌ rumal ri kojobꞌal chike ri e kojtal ketal xuqujeꞌ ri man kojtal ta ketal.
31 Do we, then, use this faith to abolish Law? Heaven forbid! No, we establish Law.
¿La kel kꞌu kubꞌij chi kaqachup ri taqanik rukꞌ ri kojobꞌal? Man je ta riꞌ, xane rukꞌ wa kaqabꞌij chi qas sukꞌ wi ri taqanik.
